Description
Jinwon Hyun is a carefree and outgoing high school student. He is a great dancer and loves singing. One day, he notices that someone is constantly staring at him. He finds out it's none other than a classmate named Hosoo—who has a pretty girlfriend of his own—and Jinwon is faced with a very strange and worrisome dilemma. The two boys find themselves gradually becoming attracted to each other's songs and hopes.

Contrary to popular opinion, this manhwa is NOT BL.

The story is great?! it shows the struggles in the life, and that not everything you dream of in your childhood dreams will come true!? family is very important, the sense of belonging is very important!? and it was beautifully portrayed in the story; friends, family, colleagues, partners and so forth?! everyone wants something to belong to!? you may leave some people behind, however they will always have a place in your heart?!

Thats what i felt when i read the story?! it just gives of this feeling?! even though you love someone so much they may part from you, however you always wish or hope someday u will meet them someday down the road!? and remember the good times you had with them?! it just makes me want to cry!?

This is one of those series which surprised me. I have often been disappointed by how shallow and unattractive most manhwa are, and how, when compared to mangaka, most manhwaga seem to be definitely lacking in ability. I only read DWYW out of boredom, not expecting anything much...and was quite amazed when I finished all 7 books in two days- a rare thing for me.

Of course, like any school life + drama story, the characters are cliched, and the situations they wind up in are hardly new; but the author seems to know how to make you feel for the people and their predicaments, trivial though they may be. The relationships are quite lovely; and more often than not, made me strangely nostalgic about my own school-going days.
I also loved the lack of melodrama or overt tragedy in the story. Any sadness is dealt with in a most realistic and believable manner; invoking sympathy and not exasperation.

The way Jinwon and Hosoo eventually drifted apart and began walking their separate paths, and how the very thing that built the foundation for their friendship became the reason for their parting of ways, was strangely touching; though it made me tear up as I thought of the universal truth; 'no friendship, no matter how beautiful, will last forever'.

All the characters, while inevitably falling into common manhwa stereotypes, have such strong, defined personalities, that you can't bring yourself to dislike any of them.

While it may not appear so from the cover, the art is actually very nice in a sweet, simple sort of way. It works really well at conveying emotion- which is what is important in a story of this nature.

As mentioned in the summary, DWYW is not shounen-ai ; there is little or nothing to hint that the feelings between the boys are anything but the strange, platonic love that binds best friends. Even if you hate BL, it should not hinder you from reading this manhwa.

As has been stated the shounen-ai in this is basically non-existant, and what gives off the impression of possible BL is in the end nothing more than two friends who are as close as can be without going past the line into dating etc.

This thing is cliché central (attempted suicide, near death, kidnapping, car accident, business warfare, family feuds etc), however it never ever felt clichéd; this is probably due to the fact that they're clichéd because of the associated romance, which Do Whatever You Want has next to none of.

The story had a few downfalls if you want to call them that; an original character who had quite a big story at the start eventually fades into token appearances, the one boy on boy kiss has no...fallout/followup etc, nor did the story/feel of what happens with the kisser, perhaps I was hoping for some BL too much :/

At the end of the day though, it's still a great read; and is really refreshing to see a manga that can build characters with strong relationships with each other, and not really delve into romance that isn't super-shounen material.

Definitely left wanting more, which is good, but also a little saddening.

I really loved this story. I couldn't stop reading it. I laughed and cried. I am satisfied with the end, but want more. That is truly the sign of a great story. Always leave the reader satisfied but wanting more. I am not so sure if I would really say that this is truly a shounen-ai. I see it more as really close and caring friends. But, I guess not being from an Asian culture, I am more free and liberal in my views of hugging and kissing my closest friends. I think even those who dislike shounen-ai would still enjoy this story. That is what I am trying to say. I will definitely re-read this one again and again. It really is a fantastic story.

I only read the first chapter and it's true... I'm already in love with both of them! They're fun and cute and I'd love this to be a yaoi more than a shounen-ai!
But it's promising and I suggest you to give this a shot!
