I absolutely adored this excellent piece of storytelling....

it spoke to me so much...my thoughts and my current situation are a mixture of what the characters were saying and going through...i just love it..

so realistic, such nice characterization, really powerful work packed with emotions..there is a subtlety yet so much warmth and emotion in this lil' piece...seriously now that's the 2nd manga i'm reading from toume kei and it is so good...

10 out of 10 might seem a bit too much but that's the best one-shot i've ever read..you have to have some appreciation for human relationships and inner monologues to enjoy this piece though..no fantasy here

A small glimmer of Toume's narrative talent

I should begin by stating simply that I rate things much, much more harshly than the average person, I actually love this piece.

Toume is a genius in my mind. She can take an idea, however short or outlandish, and infuse it realism. The Sea Where the Siren Lives is one of her more down-to-earth works, set firmly within the confines of reality, making it most similar to Yesterday wo Utatte. The characters have complex thoughts and subtleties to their speech despite the story being told in a straightforward manner, which serves to add depth and enhance my enjoyment of the work overall. The pacing is somewhat lackadaisical, but still manages to be engaging and deliver one of the stronger endings that I have seen in a oneshot. As always, the art is excellent.

Others who have appreciated Toume's longer works should enjoy this piece as well.
