How I love this 2-volume manga. I believe it has the potential to be developed into a longer run one had Clamp wished to. The art is breathtaking - each pane is like an artwork. This is Clamp at their best in terms of art style (I prefer their art works in this period than later ones like XXX Holic or Tsubasa). The plot is tragic yet beautiful, too.

...actually a strictly emotion-centric story. Since that's not at all the impression given out by the summary, the disappointment a lot of readers have expressed is understandable. Basically, the plot of Clover is a mere excuse to explore themes related to loneliness, the search for a place to belong, and the isolation experienced by those who're different from the masses in an obvious way and are restricted and exploited because of said difference.

Due to the heavy focus on the drama/psychology/tragedy aspect, the plot itself is underdeveloped, but on the emotion front this manga was quite touching. And it wasn't the least bit confusing, at least to me. Provided you read it in one go (and I've found that it's a much quicker read than the standard 4-volume series), everything should be perfectly clear by the end.

Not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but a sweet, sad story about romance and friendship that I didn't at all regret reading.

It's not one of my favorites, but it's an okay read. It's really confusing, but has good art. Because of the confusion, the story line seems a little shaky, but that could just be because half of the time I don't know what's going on.
I reccoment this to everyone who likes clamp and anyone who wants to read a short, interesting manga.

Nice aesthetics, interesting concept, rubbish execution.

The pacing in particular is a mess - flitting from one thing to another, but none of the scenes have any weight behind them.

I don't know how to properly express my dissatisfaction with this - I just never cared at any point about the characters or the situations they were in. The lack of buildup, pointless running-and-fighting scenes, plot holes (if she's so damn strong, why is this situation even happening?), hamfisted attempts at being deep and tragic...

It's not wholly without merit, but I don't think it's worth reading.

Seriously...they were so close to being completely done....I mean I guess it has a sorta luke warm ending, but they have even stated that it was supposed to be 6 parts....ans they only got 4....too bad no company is willing to pick up the series, cus then maybe they'd be interested in going back and finishing...and I wasn't talking about a Japanese company per se, but like Dark Horse had/has planned on working w/ them, i'd be nice if they worked on their older unfinished stories instead of a completely new one....

I always felt after reading this that there should be more and wasn't surprised to see it labeled as "discontinued" for that reason. I'm a bit disappointed with Clamp for doing this as they have done many series, several of which have either been put on indefinite hold or completely dropped for one reason or another.

I felt it absolutely necessary to write a review for this beautiful, beautiful series; I've been a long fan of CLAMP, ever since those early days of Card Captor Sakura, backtracking to X/1999 and onwards to Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC. But to tell the truth, none of the stories have touched my heart as much as Clover did. It was almost uncomfortable, the fact that I've wept for chapters and chapters over a storyline so deep.

It wasn't that the plot was as complex as the intermingling Holic and Tsubasa; perhaps it's because it's not nearly as long as those two. Futuristic settings are always something I have a trouble getting used to, because it's the future; we've never seen it, we can't necessarily reference it to past events, because they never existed. However it's because it wasn't complex that I loved it. The relationships, simple, tragic, just full of love and despair like no other. Kazuhiko and Sue, Ora, Gingetsu and Ran, accompanied with the lyrics of the songs that Ora sings throughout the story, make it heart-warming, and heart-wrenching. Words that reflected feelings, even if not revealed completely to the reader, repeated over and over again to almost verify that they were true - there was some poetic elegance to it, especially in Tetsuto Sokura's translations.
Mixed with CLAMP's gorgeous art that may or may not annoy you, depending on your tastes [truthfully I adore their older art more than the more recent styles they toggle with], alluring action, romance, much tragedy, and feelings that piece together, Clover was like an open book that would paint itself as you flipped the pages. I love the characters: the humorous Kazuhiko, the gorgeous, lovesick Ora, the serious-faced Gingetsu [honestly, I wish we could see his eyes], and especially Sue, the one who seems to link together all the hearts and minds of those she's never even seen.

It's great, to see that CLAMP had written such a deep, profound, wonderful series; I knew they had the capability of doing so, and I believe they pulled it off, magnificently. If only it had been longer, yes. I wonder if reading it from volume four to one would have a different effect on the reader.

the art is so worth it. the cover , the greenish-silver ink,the poem, the art designer (i especially love when orsuu say a-i-shi-te-ru) that lips... my God.
weird story. didnt really understand until 3 years reading it.

I am a huge Clamp fan n_n, so this series already had an in with me. The first two books left me feeling a little confused, but the last two really brought it together and sealed the deal for me. The dialog was short but very poetic, and the artwork was nothing less then gorgeous. The only reason I wouldn't say a perfect 10, is because I wanted more of an explenation and it was a bit confusing. But still! Loved it.

Usually, I find CLAMP just to be enjoyable...fluff. If it's not romance, then it's almost always action or fantasy. I mean, I loved Cardcaptor Sakura and all, but even I gave a little sigh of relief when it ended.
When I read CLAMP, I just read it to have a laugh or sigh over the cuteness of the art or something like that. But when I read this manga, I was blown away. It was amazing and although I STILL don't completely understand this manga, everything felt so much more...mature.
I love simple art with a lot of splotches of white, and this manga worked with that kind of art.

All in all, I would have to say that this was good, though I'm sure that some people wouldn't agree(but then again, there isn't any manga everyone agrees on).
