Description
The story is set in modern day downtown Tokyo. Our heroine Handa Sen, known as “Osen,” is the star hostess of the longstanding Isho-an, everyone’s favorite restaurant in the town of Kasagi-no-yado. Osen not only loves sake and looks sexy in kimono, but she’s also a “jill” of all trades: She’s a master chef, entertainer and potter, as well as an art connoisseur. The comic is about how Osen settles all the happenings surrounding Isho-an. Sometimes she resolves them with the Japanese spirit of “wa,” or by just being plain logical.

The artist’s delicate depiction of our heroine Osen in kimono, various craft including pottery and food is a highlight of this manga. –Kodanclub.com

his work, since sanshiro X2, was inspired me to be a modern conservationist. y'know those support local, love own cultures and traditions, enjoy being natural life style. i love his this little idea that always hidden inside his works. And also those unbelievable gags! that make me burst out a laugh! I did tear-dropped when i read the chapter "new married's nutto " that osen taught the new married guy how to enjoy nutto-making with Ichohang ppl. And turned out that he unexpectedly made breakfast with his mom's nutto for his wife. That touched her because the taste of nutto soup was impressive to tear.

Judging from the synopsis, this is the source of a Japanese drama with the same title and overall 'plot' I enjoyed with English fansubs some time ago smile . Definitely worth a reading (and a watching) and chock-full of Japanese culture references , as the other commenter has remarked.

This series is perfect for the japanophile or anyone who has ever been to a Japanese restaurant. Kotonoha's excellent notes and HQ scans really make this one worth picking up. Now if only the releases become more frequent...
