First is scary; second is funny

The first story is 6 and the second is 8. Agreeing with those disliking this manga, I don’t like the rape scene at all, and I can’t forgive Komiya for that. The ending seems to be the opposite of the beginning. I approve Usami standing up for himself until he came to understand Komiya more.
I like the second story more. It’s funny and has very lighted theme, unlike the first. Morinaka can be a jerk, but he’s charming and doting at a same time. Hanano is just a brat but hilarious.

I didn't get past the rape scene in the second chapter. When one character rapes another and claims it's because they love them (as happened in this story), I'm out. Done. No way.
I didn't rate this because the rating system doesn't go as low as I'd rate it.
It's too bad, since I love stories in the food industry normally.

Well I would've liked this a lot more if it wasn't for these two flaws;
Having said all that I did actually quite like the other couple; the other chef (I can't remember his name) was entertaining, I liked how he meddled in the main couple's relationship and I especially liked how he would tease the other guy (can't remember his name either lol) so a 7/10 just for those two.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
1. Just moments before Komiya confesses to Usami, he was bragging about the nice legs of the woman he just slept with. He says he liked how it felt when she wrapped them around him, then bam, he tells Usami he's fallen in love with him. Yeah I know he's always been a womanizer, apparently using women to try to get over his unrequited love for Usami, but seriously wth? If he didn't sleep with everything that moved and was just honest with Usami from the start, then things would've been easier. And if he really loved him that much then why have sex with a customer from their work, when he could've just gone home with him as they are living together at this point? Surely if you finally get a chance to live with the person you love, you'd want to spend all your free time with them, instead of just hopping in to bed with others. It's not like he can even use the excuse that he was only with those women because he couldn't be with Usami, since he obviously had enough courage to confess as he does it so abruptly. So anyway that whole part really grated on me.
2. Obviously the rape annoys me too. Not the rape itself (I have read a lot of non-con, and whilst I don't like it nor do I find it hot, I don't hate it as long as it's handled well) but the aftermath is what really let me down. As a lot of other reviewers have mentioned, I had high hopes for this when Usami says he won't forgive Komiya for raping him. He ignores him and tries to avoid him by planning to quit, and it seems like the story is going to get really good, with Komiya having to desperately try to get some forgiveness. It then appears to get even better when Usami beats him up (which I really did like -- it was truly deserved and seemed a lot more realistic than most post-rape BL moments) but then all of a sudden, just because he looks at Komiya's battered face, all of his anger vanishes and he forgives him. And at that moment this manga lost it's chance of being an exceptional piece of yaoi. Instead it just joined the many other unrealistic and frustrating rape stories.

Well, this IS eye candy for sure, but the story seems a bit rushed. Nonetheless, it's still worth reading. Not a manga that's made a deep impression on me though.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
I think the way Usami reacts toward the rape is fairly realistic in comparison to most yaoi stories containing rape themes. But he forgives Komiya way too easily and early. It's like *puff* his anger disappears at once when he looks at Komiya's apologetic face. If it should have appeared more realistic the 'building-new-trust'-part should have been much more solid and extensive. A bit disappointing since Usami's first reaction was good.
Not bad.

I'm not really a yaoi fan, I prefer the lightest of BL's, ones that could only be slashable. This one...could be one of those if it wasn't for the rape.
Even then, the character didn't fall in love with the guy, but hated him and got mad at him for it. It could be a good story, and its one I'll keep reading until it gets to be too much about sex or something.
I do agree with some points of foul's comment, that the mangaka did try to deal with the rape, but in the end it was a bit weak in dealing with it. I doubt the character would have forgiven the person so easily. But the story must go on!

Dolce features an art style that looks fairly unique: delicate and softly done without being obnoxiously shoujo. Yes, it's got rape in it (as does most yaoi), but at least the uke does something other than sit there crying and the seme was abused enough to ease my (oh so small) conscience. I eagerly await more.

Having read 2 chapters, I can say I was actually really surprised things seemed to be getting better.
I really liked how they dealt with the rape afterwards so logically and sensibly. This was probably one of the few series I've read where the uke DIDN'T fall in love after being raped by the seme, but instead got angry enough to beat the crap out of the seme . I also really appreciated how the 2 talked it over afterwards before the uke turned down him down anyway.
Too bad the overall story is executed far too rushed of a manner, but overall I think it's getting better. But WARNING: I really disliked the 1st chapter; I thought it was too stereotypical.

This manga is an example of initial effort then conspicuous failure. It starts well but then uses rape as a plot device.
And whilst it initially tries to deal with the rape realistically, after a few pages the mangaka gets bored and the story becomes an irritating unrealistic failure.
Looks good but it's worth the hard drive space or the paper and ink.
