Real Cute

Although it is your typical shoujo manga with the romance cliches and love triangle, I still really enjoyed the series. The main character Riiko annoyed me at times but she was decent. I loved the artwork too, the guys were such bishies :) A lot of moments just made me go "Awww so sweet"... at least once in each chapter. There were some plot turns too, which thankfully weren't dragged out. The ending, though inevitable, was still incredibly sad... but I didn't feel immersed in the story enough to shed tears. It's a great read if you have some time to kill(I finished it in 2 days! record (for me)), but if you want something more meaningful with a deeper plot, then this won't be for you.
Overall I give it 8/10 cuz it left me with a nice feeling and did keep me entertained.

This is fun, light entertainment. The plot is pretty shallow, and the main character is irritating, but Watase's art is beautiful. The humor worked for me as well. It's not going to win a literary prize, it's just entertainment and it was successful in that aspect for me.

Zettai Kareshi has no artistic value. It's completely cliches and female fantasies strung together with girly fanservice. And yet I absolutely loved it.

It really is all about indulging fantasies and providing an escape. And it's really good at it. There are all the staples of fantasies - stunning vistas, vacations, cute clothes, lots of subservient boyfriends. And it's all well-done. It's ridiculously girly and completely enjoyable. The art is great, too, with Riiko being really cute and the boys being gorgeous.

If you're the pretentious type - you know, you stick to stories that aren't shameless girl-pandering - I advise you stay away from Zettai Kareshi. There really isn't any substance here. But if you're just looking for a light, fun escape, this is a perfect choice.

like a lot of watase-sensei's work, the art is gorgeous but the female lead is unfortunately a bit nerve-grating.

i'll admit, i cried at the end (but then again, i cry easily). but after when i thought about it, that was the only way it could have ended. (spoiler) human-android relationships aren't meant to last. (/end spoiler)

other than riiko's character, i was satisfied with the story.

I read the first half of this series in Shoujo Beat, and I thought it was cute. When my subscription ran out, though, I didn't pursue the series any farther. I heard the ending from multiple sources so I ended up finishing the series.

So many people are moaning about the ending. But seriously, it wasn't unexpected for me.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Seriously. Machines, no matter how well-built, eventually break down. Laptops need to be replaced every four years, tops. And it was very cute how he burned himself out trying to be perfect for Riiko. In the end, you know that she'd be forced to pick Soshi, and Watase made a lot of effort to make readers "okay" with him. What else did you expect? For Riiko to get old, and Night to stay young? What would people think when they realized he wasn't getting any older? That is definitely -not- a happily-ever-after, and Watase almost always takes that ending.

But while the ending was pretty satisfying for me, I can't help but feel that reading this manga was just a waste of my time. Riiko is the annoying "I'm female but I'm STRONG" heroine who just whines all the time about why everything isn't perfect for her. Then Night is the perfect gentleman, so she becomes happy for a while. It's just this huge fantasy that makes me feel kind of sorry for the mangaka that she was so hard-up for a storyline that she came up with this.

I also want such an android boyfriend too!
Last chapter made me cry :S

Typical shoujo story with overly dramatic little twists and the typical secret admirer. However this one is done very adorable, I guess its pretty art and fanservice added to that. wink

Because of only 6 vols it can be read in one day or a night.

i kind of liked how it was shorter than most mangas I read. I was very depressed by the ending though. The robot thing made the whole manga more interesting and better, so I don't resent it. But basically, Riiko is saying she likes a robot more than a human, which is ok since night is so hot anyways lol >_<
Soshi was a little annoying to me, but he was the guy who's always there. I just didn't see enough character besides kindness in him...
I don't like Riiko. She can't decide between the two which is annoying, and Night is always sacrificing his happiness for her. Same goes for soshi. But Riiko isn't so bad that I want to kill her like some other manga chars...

[edit by mod,potential spoilers]

This is my one of my utmost favorite of Watase Yuu's manga. It's not my favorite, but of Watase-sensei's work, I liked this one the most. It is sweet and moving. While the premise was kind of silly, the development of the story made you want to read more and more-- mostly to find out what would happen between Riiko and Night.

I rooted for Soushi, mostly because I like my bishounen in glasses and thought that Soushi would be good for Riiko since Night was a robot after all. But as the relationship between Riiko and Night progressed, I started to become more accepting of them and thought that they were very good together.

The ending is very sad and touching. I almost cried and think that my eyes even got a bit watery. I would recommend this manga to anyone.

Okay Manga

The beginning and part of the middle was amusing and realistic, then it started to get annoying, and the ending was disappointing. When it got to the middle, it seemed that the author was rushing to get each chapter done. Each chapter lacked something. And I know the mangaka created Riiko to be the way she was, foolish, but it still irked me. Night's a robot, go for Shoshi. I admire both Night and Shoshi for his dedication to Riiko.
