the uncle (cant eve remember his name) he was such a jerk i couldnt stand him he spends the whole manga whining about his feelings for his nephews while (spoiler) he is calmly dating some girl, i felt so bad for his nephew, he was gang raped and he tried to call his uncle for help, and his uncle did not even answer his cell when his nephew called from a pay phone, because he was on a date with his girl friend. it was painful to watch him calling his uncle for help, while his uncle was just fine with his girlfriend, and then at the end he asks his nephew to stay with him because he "loves" him, yeah right...
this is a little melodramatic for me, but the basic story is solid, and not even unrealistic -- i could easily see hijiri being torn between his gratitude and allegiance to akira's parents and his feelings for akira, and deciding that it was the better choice for everyone that he deny his feelings. i don't consider him a jerk for that, nor do i think he was wrong for trying to build an alternate life for himself by going along with the marriage his adopted family wanted for him. and it's not like it would be clear what exactly akira's feelings are either -- familial love, admiration, romantic love are not always easy to tell apart at that age, so to risk condemnation from everyone else hijiri cares about for the potential, well, yeah, i'd think about that twice and then some. this would be a hard choice to make for anyone with a conscience, because romantic feelings don't necessarily trump all.
though i do wonder why hijiri didn't answer akira's phone call; that seems to be left unexplained, and i can't deduce it from the text or art. he knew it had to be something important, and he had given that number to akira exactly for that purpose. if i were the writer i'd have left that out because it does indeed make him look like a jerk, and that doesn't fit because he's never actually been a jerk to akira.
overall this was much better than what else i've read by this mangaka.

I cried from beginning to end...it was heartbreaking XD...
