I think it's a very nice slice-of-life manga, a relaxing reading. The animals are just too cute and well characterized by the author and I think the manga gives a right idea of what it means to be a student at Veterinary Medicine!
Well, the art IS dated because this manga was written in 1988 but personally, I like the author's style!
So give it a try if you like animals or if you have ever dreamt of becoming a veterinary! You won't be disappointed!

This manga is so adorable! It's episodic, with a little bit of connections between the chapters, so it's very easy to keep up or just grab a random chapter to read.

If you like animals, any kind, really, enjoy cute humor and quirky human interactions, you'll like this manga.

The art is not flashy or very attentive, but it doesn't mean the quality of this manga is any worse than the rest out there.

An incredibly funny story with very likeable characters who manage to feel surprisingly realistic despite their absurdly quirky personalities. The hijinks of the protagonist's pets and patients are splendidly incorporated into the human-generated humour, and provide for endless laughter with each passing chapter. So far, not a single page has been dull and all the jokes hit home perfectly (at least with me).

The art style is rather dated, but doesn't detract from the comedic effect at all; in fact, I'd go so far as to say that it enhances the general silliness and carefree nature of the story.

As of volume 5, Doubutsu no Oishasan is definitely recommended to anyone with a fondness for animals and slice-of-life comedy.
