A really beatiful, dark and deep story!! I woud have given it a 10 from the bottom of my heart, If it had'nt been for the last chapter -.- ...IMO Lament of the Lamb would have been perfect with only 46 chapters ^^

Never finished this, so I can only speak for the first 30-ish chapters, but I wasn't really impressed. It had some really interesting moments, but the angst and drama was so repetitive I eventually couldn't take it any more. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of angst, but it was all the same stuff over and over again. Yawn. I like both vampires and incest, so you'd think that a manga that combined the two would hold my interest, but -- nope.

Touching

This one made me cry, and I haven't done that in years... That's how touching it is.

Great artwork, but what really makes it special is the story and characters that makes this manga feel, in lack of better word, real.

I can't do anything else but recommend this.

Sometimes it seemed that the characters were making a mountain out of a molehill. Needing to drink blood and such - yeah, that's not good, but the protagonist's actions over it ... it's the sort of angst reserved for actual vampires who sleep in tombs and drain the blood of children. Their reaction doesn't seem rational, and a lot of that comes across as forced drama.

On the plus side, the focus stops being on emo-vampiring and changes more to Chizuna's health, which is a much better source of tragedy.

It is actually quite a well told story for the most part - it has a lot of atmosphere, but there were a lot of eyeroll moments whenever characters started talking about the darkness within or whatever. There were also a few weird inconsistencies, but I'll choose to blame the translation ... or maybe the author had a brainfart. The last chapter in particular ... well, yeah - I second that other person's comment about skipping it. It's a bad ending and it's inconsistent with what's been established so far. Hell, it effectively erases the entire plot as far as the main character is concerned, making it all seem a bit pointless.

I think I've made it sound really bad - it isn't. I recommend it if gothic atmosphere and heavy tragedy are your thing. Put up with the character's whining and don't approach this as a vampire story - it's a story about terminal illness and that becomes clearer once they tone down the brooding-vampire-fear-my-darkness crap.

very sad and good manga

Despite the fact that i don't really like this vampire-theme, Lament of the Lamb was one of the best manga i have ever read. All 47 chapters were very bitter and sad. If you like deep dark drama then this is your very choice. And as for the ending - it's just as great as the whole manga.

The author changed his mind sometimes in the middle of the story, but that didn't bother me. Almost to the end I felt this was one of the best manga I've read. I like to think that the manga ended on the second last chapter. I really wish the last chapter was never made, or that I would have never read the last chapter.

Good, but not what I expected

At first I thought this was a horror story because of the vampire theme, but vampire activities play only a minor role in the story. After getting over my initial shock at the main character's blood obsession, I saw many other themes playing prominent roles in the story. Relationships, independence, romance, forbidden love, depression, suicide, and death are the true masters of this world.

It is striking how few times anyone smiles, or looks happy in this manga. Every event is an excuse for depression, crying, and hiding for the characters. The one word description for this story is probably emo.

It isn't all bad, since I did like the art quite a lot, and Chizuna-chan is drawn especially beautifully. The story seems somewhat original, though it does't do anything too surprising. I was able to relate to most of the characters, and even feel a bit of sympathy for them. So it did keep me reading, and I was somewhat satisfied at the end.

I would recommend this manga to fans of Psychological, Josei, Seinen, and Tragedy. I disagree with the genre tags applied to this series here at MangaUpdates. Not recommended if you're looking for Horror, Supernatural, or any Action.

Edit:
I've now seen the anime OVA, and it made me appreciate the manga even more. The anime is surprisingly true to the manga in most respects, with only one major change that didn't really affect the outcome anyway. The last chapter of the manga is omitted completely, and much of the story is compressed to make it fit in only 4 episodes. Still good, and recommended to fans of the manga.

This manga was excellent. The characters and dark tragedy was very compelling. The ending was the only thing that made it not get a 10. The ending was completely open and horrible.

It had some potential, but it ran too long and wasted its potential as someone else stated. Nothing ever really happened. It wasn't as dark as it should and tried to be. "Look at me, I'm the color brown but I'm pretending to be the blackest black." My hopes that it'd grow on me was far from enough, and had it not been for my inability to stop watching/reading something halfway through, I would've chucked it out the window. Or deleted it, rather. I give it three points for not taking the common/-cheap- route and deduct one for the lame/-cheap- ending.

I love stories like this. It's dark, solemn and down to earth. The focus is on the characters interaction and how they choose to deal with a life altering disease. I didn't feel like it was slow or dragged. And I liked the sketchy art style and feels it fits the mood of the series perfectly.
