Well after reading this manga, it left me feeling the same way as when i finish reading Film Girl, it felt incomplete, the story kinda just hangs there, maybe that's what the mangaka likes to do in most of her works? i have no idea, but i definitely don't fancy it. Overall the story was ok, though Shioshi's dictatorship character is somewhat annoying, but at the same time i actually think that this is quite an effective way and maybe the only way to strive for peace in this kind of environment, by brute force, see who's the fiercest predator, heh~ Yanyways, the romance in this manga is subtle, but it's futile to complain about it, since it's not even categorize under the romance genre. The art as always appeases me, especially how Shioshi is drawn, without it, i think i would have given up in this manga after one chapter. So yay for the art~!...that's it.

Yes, yes, I usually don't read things because of the art, but this time I thought "what the heck" and started reading. It was okay. Granted, I had a lot of time on my hands and I'd run out of good manga to read, and if I hadn't I most certainly wouldn't have wasted my time reading something like this.
The main characters are relatively one dimensional; the main male lead's actions are never fully explained, there's a glimpse that of a past but nothing to justify his actions or fixation on the school. The female lead apologises for every instance where she was wrong, shows no backbone and is generally incapable of fixing any of the situations she proclaims to be able to fix. The side characters receive no development at all and, considering one of the chapters is based solely around a situation one of them gets into, this is no help at all to the manga.
The premise has been done before, the bickering between the main leads has been done before. There's a hint of romance that is never fully satisfied because the two leads never become a couple. All in all an average read made less-than-average by one dimensional, super-stereotyped and under developed characters. You can easily find other mangas almost exactly like this in premise, with better character development in the shoujo genre.

Its difficult to put my finger on what it is that makes this manga so good.
One it doesn't go for obvious cliches... its more smart about it.
Maybe I just really loved the two main characters - separately and together. They're beautifully drawn and designed - both very sexy. They are both strong, both passionate and both good leaders in very different ways (if you're looking for power couples this is a good manga to go to). Momoko is naturally a pacifist with a naive and powerful desire to see unity - she obviously craves human contact and reassurance. But not needy - she's independent; she may suffer moments of self-doubt but it tends to be about her ideals and her understanding of people and the best way to lead the student body, not spending ages pondering her feelings. Shishio is not her entire world - he is at the centre of a much bigger world, one which she never forgets or stops caring about, even when sh falls in love with him. She's also practical and capable.
Shishio is naturally rather violent but more worldly wise. He's also charismatic and obviously not afraid to go it alone. And just appealingly human. Flawed, lazy and a bit prickly but not a bad person (they're are lot of shoujo manga where you couldn't say that - its rather disturbing actually).
I really loved the dynamic between the two leads. There isn't much outright romance between them BUT there is a lot of chemistry - in some ways that's far more fun. They're yin and yang but its their gradual meeting of minds that's so good to read. Plus their constant bickering. Its very realistic - sometimes bickering between the two leads can be rather contrived and come across as very childish. With this manga it seems perfectly understandable - you sympathise with both characters.
The art's really beautiful too. Actually I'm surprised that this manga isn't more popular - especially to western readers. I'd highly recommend it. Its a little too short - I think the plot could have been expanded upon a little better but I found that very easily to overlook with the quality of the art and the writing.

LIke celinae, I preferred Hana ni Arashi better too. Admittedly HnA was pretty cliche, but at least she was sorta strong enough to somewhat defend herself whereas the main character here is (so far) getting held hostage every chapter and is completely weak and annoying... -_-
Of course, I have only read up to chapter 2 so things might change in the future...

So far it's not particularly wonderful or anything. I was more impressed with Hana ni Arashi, but we'll see how it goes. For now it's a bit too cliched for my tastes... and I find it hard to really like the main character, for all that she's really cute. But at least the two of them aren't falling all over each other yet. XD
