Batshit insanity the manga!

The story of this grim and gritty reboot of an already grim 70s novel series is complete garbage from the very start from a writing standpoint didn´t become that later on like some reviewers here say. But what garbage it is!
The totqal insanity already starts in volume 1 but the team that brought you the shounen(?!?) action gem Akumetsu (8/10) had to go completely of the rails around Vol. 6 or so. Over-glorified school-shootings where insane 14-year-old tries to rape a girl with a shotgun? This manga has it! 200 pages of inhuman rape, no problem bro. There is also a Were-Ogre who is an after-product of rape? Give it the Tezuka already! So why do i "like" this misfire? Because I read it as a black comedy or as a parody of the nowadays popular motion to make everything "dark/mature" and over-sexualize it on top. But if this Manga, on the other hand, was meant as a "serious" offering... oh boy. There is also the god-like art. Only Berserk has more beautiful action scenes. The "crazy eyes" especially Yugo Yuuki drew here are beyond belief. The only downside is that everyone looks at least 24 and not 14 like they are supposed to. 14-year-old psychopathic Yakuza warlords, at that. Of course! It also looks like clear cut porn but isn´t this part of the "fun"? To sum up: The manga is gold if taken as a cpmedy but borders on a war crime if taken seriously.
I further recommend Berserk, Gantz and Akumetsu for something similar but better. Stay away from it´s younger brother Shin Mazinger Zero as this team hooked up with Go Nagai there and the result is beyond words or sanity. The completely bonkers Battle Royale ran in the same magazine a decade prior and is pretty much the same manga with fewer aspects I can recommend to read it too I guess but deduct 1 point as the Japanese version tried to be a real drama when it grew up. Only the ingenious English translation is a true satire. 90´s Wolf Guy is complete trash btw. How fitting and I wait for the day when Ookamiotoko da yo finaly get´s unearthed form it´s shallow grave as it looks 11/10 crazy. New Remake when? WHEN!?!

Been following this from the day it started, apart from the violence rape blah blah, it was good in the beginning but dang, half way you'll be like, why am I reading this repetitive shit?
The plot doesn't expand, it keeps revolving around the same old thing, one or two volumes maybe but not the whole manga! Overall, I find the story very hazy, nothing spectacular.

I'd still recommend it for perverts (decent art though -.-)

awful peice of shit manga
after the end of volume 5 it just goes downhill
just as Meins say in his comment
the dues ex machina just ruins everything
[this sort of really idiotic and strange plotdevices seems to be common with this author and artist
all their manga suffer from this]
the artist should really stop working with the author...coz the drawings are atleast interesting

Great Art, Story gets bad after the middle part
by Meins

Rating: 7.0  / 10.0
Well, as said really great art. But the Story ...

At the beginning the story seams to be cool. Something over the edge, but it's a manga. Because the art is good and somewhat realistic you, well I, was fooled to believe that the story in this manga keeps to some common sense. That the reasons for specific actions of some characters in this manga can be explained by what have happened before and common sense. That not Deux Ex Machina is used.
This was my wrong conclusion, at the crucial points the story leave common sense and Deux Ex Machina is used. IMHO the use of Deux Ex Machina is the killing blow to any story, after this this is not a story but only stringing together events.
Of course the action is thrilling and the fights beautifully drawn. And if you like action, this manga is something for you. If you like great art, than this manga is something for you. If you like good plotted, consistent story, than this manga is NOT something for you.

In the end this manga is about a epic fight for the love of your live. Against a inhuman human opponent and his lackeys. And there is no real ending in this story. Yet the story has his dramaturgic climax. Because there is room left for a sequel.

I can not let it be and have to speak about the worst flaw (IMHO) in this manga:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
THE main turning point in this story was as 10 assassins try to kill Dou and Inugami, in his human form, decides to observe this from above and not to interfere. In his inner monologue he despise the assassins notably and humans as a whole and don't want to be like them. He decides to let them kill each other. Dou kills 6 of the assassins (quite a inhuman feat) but after this Inugami kills the last 4 assassins in his werewolf form and show of in front of Dou and humiliate him.
As I was reading this I was thinking that this is out of character, that this is wrong. And there was no explanation why Inugami chose to do this, nothing at all. Inugami endured so much stating to the reader that he doesn't care what the ppl around him do as long they leave him alone. He doesn't show any anger as he was humiliated. Inugami try to hide the hard evidences about him being a werewolf so hard (everything else can be "explained" by some luck or really hard toughness). And yet he show himself as a werewolf in front of Dou and play whit him. If he was so angry about the assassins and kill the last 4, than he should be angry also at Dou and kill this murder too. Dou is a murder and inhuman sadist, there is not much difference between him and the assassins. After this Dou has lost his mind and is trying to kill Inugami.
There is nothing to explain this decision, only a lot of again this decision. It's like the whole Inugami character was raped by his creator and made him doing something atypical with out any need. This is a typical 'Deus Ex Machina' plot device and I disgust something like this.

There were some events or details which contradict common sense. But to discuss them here is to much. And some of them were mentioned all ready in other comments.

Some series are so tragic that you can't help but shed tears, some make you happy etc .This shows the talent of the author if he can make a story that rings out your emotions he's done his job.wolfguy does that it stirs our feelings even if it brings out disgust as well.lets face it we don't to see bad stuff happen to main characters and in manga we want the hero to save the day.In most cases even if the story boasts of realisim it falls short and becomes unrealistic . This manga showed all the ugliness that we ignore

Author Issues

Any manga lover would aprecciate one of the most incredible artworks never drawn in manga universe, but that is all there's to it.
I can stand violence, gore, i can even enjoy it sometimes even when it's not the thing I look for when reading manga.
Gantz is one of the mangas i've enjoyed the most throught years of manga(except yokohama arc), nontheless Wolfguy really makes me sick, the big difference in masterpiece Gantz is the realism in the uglinnes of the human beings, is real, shelffines, fear, bravery , passion, love...when compared to Wolfguy you find to much psicopatic characters, a real abuse of the psicopatic behaviour, disturbing.
When reading manga or a book even any other format of fiction if you're attentive enough you can feel the author in it. Reading Wolguy the only thing in my mind is that this author is a tormented soul, a person with serious problems, especially with women, who doesn't understand the world. Just so you can get my point, the thing that can destroy people's lives in the brain of this author it's not the rape itself, the worst would be if they loaded the video on the net...¿What's the matter with this author? He doesn't understand basic emotions, so you can't sympathize with him.
A golden rule in fiction, you can torture your readers only when your work is great, otherwise it's pretentious

TABATA Yoshiaki 0/10
YUGO Yuuki 9/10

If i were the artist in this combo i would look for another coworker.

really different than what i thought. so full of heart and spirit... i was expecting a typical soft core piece with a little supernatural thrown in there, and that is most definitely not what this was! i flew through this series soooo super fast, it was ridiculous.

and btw, as bad as this sounds, i really liked
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
that he didn't save the girl. hey, crap happens, you can't ALWAYS save the girl and have a happy experience and go in that direction. i really liked it wasn't typical, and i think the break was needed for both the characters.

the female lead was incredible.. i was so skeptical at first, but she has a fighting spirit and a kind heart, and she was amazing!! the only thing i hated about her were her breasts... i mean, really... they were distracting and soooo huge!!! admittedly this is aimed towards guys, so i'm a little out of my element, but still jeez.....

the ending made me love the story that much more and wrapped it up in a wonderful conclusion. sure, by god, i'd LOVE a sequel, but am quite content with it as is.

-sigh- very content at the moment~

In the beginning I enjoyed it, really did - the art, progressing story, it all felt fantastic. But it was hinted at towards the beginning that the author really liked rape scenes. So, what began as something I could enjoy, ended up something that felt like I was punishing myself. I could tolerate the

first nine chapters of continuous gang rape
but really, he added at least thirty chapters of that painful depiction. It stopped becoming disturbing and started to be just plain repetitive. So I dropped the series altogether and don't recommend it.

tl;dr It was boring but if you find rape exciting then go for it because that's all it ends up becoming.

Wolfguy is a Gary Stu.
by Zina

For the first 70 chapters or so, Wolfguy is a Gary Stu. He is glorified to no end. Every fight goes, "The enemy was strong, but Wolfguy was stronger." He was so perfect that he was completely unbelievable. The mangaka was definitely making a statement about who he thinks the perfect male should be.

Speaking about that, no 14 year-old should look like that. They're ninth graders? Really? I don't believe you. Not one bit.

However, the art was gorgeous. The female lead's eyes were made of wonder. The styles of each of the characters were unique, and I never had issues distinguishing between them.

The mangaka overused gore to prove his points (however well it was drawn). However, I rarely read seinen, and perhaps this is expected. However, it detracted from the experience for me.

My biggest issue is that there is WAY TOO MUCH rape. I mean, I get it, it's a useful plot device, but the author puts pages and pages of successive rape scenes. I don't get anything out of rape illustrations. I really don't. So it was annoying and pushed the gore way over any useful level.

The antagonists we really unrealistic. However, the antagonists were common for manga settings. Basically, the antagonists have a thirst for superiority. I can guarantee that neither me nor my friends will ever meet someone like any of the antagonists. As I do with most manga like these, I just sort of accepted it for what it was and continued reading.

Although I have a lot of issues with this manga, I still rated it a 7.5 . This is for a few reasons. The art is gorgeous. I quite enjoyed the relationship between the male and female lead. The female lead was not a useless barbie. Also the other students in the class were all well characterized.

P.S. The ending is not terrible. Although not explicitly stated, you do know how it ends. I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger.

This was a fantastic manga in my opinion. I love the art and the plot, but what happened at the end. I thought there would be more like his journey to her or something similar. Over one of the best Seinen manga I have ever read. 10/10
