Quite bad

I started reading this one several years ago so I can only write about the general impression the manga left me with, even so, since after so much time there has been no new release I'll write this now since I'll probably never finish this.

To start of, I think the comments here are quite misleading, I get it that people like it, an 8 is understandable even a 9, but to call it a masterpiece? in relation to what? I don't think so, not by any kind of measurement, unless maybe if you're new to manga and like all of us at that stage, any manga was awesome, there are just too many that vote either 1 or 10, no middle-grounds.

First the chars, I found Utsuho to be an annoying character, for many reasons, first is that I didn't find him very believable, he's a liar, ok, but why is he so strong? it's never properly explained (that I remember), the way he decides to help people is crap too, he's having a monologue and goes "I know I'll use lies to make people happy" and that's that, the rest is accessory, the author tries to mitigate the shallowness of it later with Utsuhos past but for me it was too late, still all that is secondary, what I can't stand is his interactions with the rest of the characters, leaving Pochi aside he's an ass with all of his companions and there isn't much justification for why, Neya is more dedicated and loyal, and the guy (medic) if I'm not mistaken saves him quite a few times, Pochi... aside from being cute has a sad story and met Utsuho first... that's it. I think he treats even some enemies better. The girl, Neya on the other hand starts as an interesting char, she's apparently the only char in the hole manga (so far) who actually manages to fool Utsuho, after that she's lowered to an uninteresting girl desperate to get Utsuho's attention while he treats her like crap and ignores her most of the time. As for the medic and the immortal guy, I don't remember much about him and that's saying enough.

Then we have the story, the lying idea is good but it's appeal is short lived, as Oehr and ChildofSecrets say it's poorly executed, the depth of the lies is so shallow, the contents so dumb that it's hard to be interested at all. Also it seams being an itsuwaribito is an extremely popular profession yet all those profesional lairs have no brain and fall far who knows how many predictable feints and lies yet still after all that lie and be lied this ends up being just a generic shounnen battle manga. The overarching plot of the 7 treasures is still halfway through so I can't comment on that part. Lastly, as AnimeCynthia21 says the manga goes on nonchalantly and lighthearted while depicting people dying by the hundreds, kids killed, families destroyed and all kinds of betrayals... I don't like that, it feels off.

Last, as for positive things about this manga... I can only think of the art-style and it's good, not great.

By the way, the current arc (tanukis) is such a load of BS that I would not be surprised if the scanlation stopped because they got fed up there (doubt it but still makes me wonder...).

This is one of the few reads that have really stuck to me... Once you start reading, you fall in love with the characters right away, and the author introduces more, so the fun really never ends. Each of the characters have their unique experiences and quirks, which make their backstory so much more intersting. I really hope the scanlations will ontinue because this is seriously an amazing story. (And the art is really amazing too)
POCHIIIII IS ALSO ADORABLE AF:3

My fav!

I absolutely love this manga! I started reading it and got to the latest update in a few days! It's one of the best mangas ever in my opinion. The story is interesting and keeps a lighthearted feel to it despite being dark and bloody at times. I'm on chapter 100 and something now. My favourite part of this is probably the characters:
Utsuho is one unique lead. He is smart, skillful, a liar, kinda childish at times, and all in all just cool.
Pochi is the cutest thing ever! That little furry tanuki...I wanna hug him/ her.
The other people in his gang of misfits are just as interesting as utsuho. They mostly have dark pasts though from the way they act, you wouldn't have guessed.
I'm very glad to have this manga, but I'm kinda sad that it's ending...hope they'll be a sequel soon...

After read some chapters i thought i shout in my heart, "I found a gem!"
can't believe i don't find this earlier, but this is a very interesting shounen manga. it's been so long i didn't follow shounen manga since hunterxhunter hiatus. The plot was interesting, the character was lovable, and the art clean and nice,,, yep definitely, i highly recommended this manga.

Not for me either

I'm going to have to agree with oehr. It's a bit too simplistic in my opinion and lacks in storytelling.

Several chapters in and I am not so impressed. The premise is more original than your average shounen but isn't executed particularly special. It gets repetitive fast and is quite predictable for a lie-based story. The most appealing thing about the concept of "lying" is the power of deception and confusion but, because the story is SO straight forward and blunt about utsuho's lies, it is not deceptive at all. Ironically, the story is too honest for it's own good (i.e. how Utsuho literally says "I was just lying" 5 times every chapter). Also, so far all the enemies Utsuho has faced seem unrealistically foolish for professional swindlers/criminals. They are defeated so easily especially for (often an outnumbering quantity of) adults that will do any-means-necessary to get what they want.

Overall I think I'm just looking for a more mature and complex read. Others seem to like it plenty.

Refreshingly different. Surprised I didn't find this sooner..

Only up to chapter 46 so far, but already I can't help but be excited with the whole concept. It's so refreshingly different from the usual shounen action-adventure mangas. Utsuho's (the MC) quest, involves (at the moment) him travelling across the land, in order to help people with lies. Utsuho's fighting mainly involves using lies, bluffs, and double bluffs to defeat any villains he comes across. It's probably a hit or miss series, whether you feel it's repetitive and uninteresting, or something new from the usual formula. For me though, I'm loving it.

Not for me

I started reading, but it just wasn't for me:
Unfortunately, it gets very repetitive and always focuses on lying about lying to have lied about the lie's lie. This makes it both hard, yet very pointless to follow in detail.

Personally, I also can't stand the main character Utsuho. Creepy eyes, randomness and unbelievable character portrayal don't really make me want to read on.

The sidekicks/characters aren't helping the manga either. Annoying to pointless and often not someone, you would care about much as you're (not) sucked into the story...

Overall: Mediocre at best. Good idea, horrible execution!

Picked it up in a bookstore one day after reading the plot online. Bought the rest of the series the next month. Great. Series. Full of tricks, clean artwork, and clever stories, this series is a change of pace and a great addition to anyone's reading list. Even as the cast grows and the plot progresses, it doesn't get tired or repetitive.
Overall, just a great read.
