Since this manga takes like FOREVER to update. And raws have been flooding the net for a while now. I have already knew who the heroine will end up with. And for me, that's the only problem...
If people doesn't know who she will end up, then they wouldn't expect much on him. I think what people expect that since she'll be ending up with THAT GUY, then might as well put some really tight connection between them, but the story gave the other way around since THE OTHER GUY was given the privilege of having the chemistry with the heroine.
I've been reading this, and I totally support the final couple. I regret nothing about it. I think the guy deserve her best for all the things.
Overall.. I don't think the ending is SH*TTY like what others are implying.

I really can't stand clicheness in Shoujo (especially when the female lead is weak) but I really do love Ikeyamada-sensei's work! It's the way you can practically feel the love being conveyed between each character, and you can tell she's put alot of emotion and thought into each page and chapter. I love this manga because it mixes my favourite sport with affection and love. I really do see that Kazuma has the purest love for Midori, and it's really nice to see the badass guy getting slated for once!

I'm giving this a 10 for the ending. The soccer scenes were average, but better than most shoujo.
I really do like the ending though. Quite...conclusive.

Reading this in the beginning and seeing the plot develop, i was really worried that she's end up with Tsukasa. In so many of these shojo stories the girl always chooses the douche bag over the great guy who actually likes her for who she is and doesn't treat her like crap. I read some of the other reviews and I couldn't believe that so many people wished she would end up with Tsukasa over Kazuma. It really makes you wonder what these people expect for themselves and what they may have to put up with on a day to day basis. Why would you ever accept and return the love of someone who treated like anything other than gold? Midori made the right choice, and if this story were real she'd probably be just as happy five years from now when the bloom of the relationship is over and he stops trying to 'win' her. No wonder the divorce rate is so high...

REJECTION OF ALL "FEMINIST" OBJECTIONS
Yup, everyone can come in with their own impressions. It's fine. However, the danger with literature is when it's banned, not when it's allowed - when one sort of perspective is deemed correct and another rejected. So I completely disagree with all opinion about how poor, young, 13-year old girls will be negatively influenced - it's their choice on what they want to read. Extension of such dangerous logic will have you banning every manga that includes smoking, violence, addictive internet games... in short, becoming an unbearable megalomaniac control-freak. (PS: for all feminists out there, you will realize this manga's actually saying females can kick balls better than males do. Read before reacting, please.)
IS IT REALLY ONLY MEANT FOR THE RUBBISH CHUTE?
It seems this series has especially bad press. (I ordered comments by Usefulness and found that the most useful comment rates this series as 1/10, and the others aren't far off.) I do agree with many valid points raised: the characters are a bit excessive (seriously, raping a girl just to win a bet?!) and Midori's disguise isn't something'll that'll hold to any normal observer's eyes. But in manga, reality's always twisted slightly, and while it might be disconcerting or even distasteful that everyone seems to not realize her true gender, do keep in mind that we readers have confirmation bias (I mean, duh, you've seen her as a girl and the mangaka tries to draw boobs in every time so of course you'd notice it), and that laws of physics are rarely obeyed in fiction. So it's fine.
WHAT WE SHOULD REALLY BE LOOKING AT
The important thing, I think, is artwork, characterization, and plot. Artwork's good and appealing - and this is really a question of taste, since if you have no stomach for chibi, you're better off elsewhere. While Tsukasa is quite unbelievable, I think Kazuma's turned out fine - the only criticism, really, is that he's rather too perfect - and Midori's less swoony than your average shoujo female lead, at least initially. The plot's premises are standard and decent, pretty much - revenge on a rival you have past enmity with is one of the more commonly used devices, but it works, and you should know if you've read Skip Beat!
All in all it's a fine manga and has potential to hit 8 if it limits the damage Tsukasa is dealing to its credibility, has Midori do some real character growth and lets Kazuma be a little bit selfish for once. A nice, satisfying ending can push it even further.

Unrealistic and not Gender bender

After reading some of the comments I'm glad a few other people agree with me and I'm not the only one feeling like this was a failure of a Gender Bender manga. It's so unrealistic. Her boobs are just like flapping around everywhere out in the open and she does almost nothing to hide that she's a girl besides cutting her hair. The main character wasnt serious enough about her goals and kept getting side tracked with Tsukasa. Still i kind of liked the relationship that was building up with her and Kazuma ( i liked him because he was actually a good person) but besides that everything else was kind of dumb. I thought this was suppose to be about revenge and awesome soccer skills that kick some jerk's ass? NOPE it doesn't seem like it! This is the kind of manga you feel like you waste time on and read just to read.

Seriously, so what if she didn't end up with Tsukasa?? YES, they had more chemistry and all, but at the end of the day, it was obvious Kazuma was much more suited for Midori. Someone stated that Kazuma was more stable, and I 100% agree with them. Why would the manga-ka choose the unstable, bipolar asshole that took the main characters virginity and stepped on her like dirt right after? ...Because he's hotter? ...IMHO that is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. You have to feel bad for Tsukasa for what happened to him, none of that was his fault. But he wasn't stable enough for Midori, so Kazuma had to win. He needed time to grow up a little. I realized this after i read the ending. Though I'm pretty dissapointed myself (I liked tsukasa x midori better), i still love this manga.
ANDDD I'm STILL giving this a 10/10, mainly because the ending was brilliant. We need more stories like this. Even guys like Kazuma deserve to win once in a while!! : )
P.S. Screw everyone that gave this a 6 or lower, you guys lack variety and taste in manga.
i love you tsukasa<3 I'm glad you got a happy ending as well! ;_;

Lol, I completely agreed with most of the comments because i was also very disappointed by the ending. But after a while (a long long while) I got over it and now I'm okay with what happened. I mean if you think about it the author did a really good job with it o_o, the ending was sweet and you know who is a good guy. So my rating is still a 10/10

... this kind of moody bipolar jerk boyfriend is unreliable and toxic. From treating her like dirt in the beginning to worshipping the ground she walks on by chapter 27 is unbelievable. And he STILL hasn't shown any palpable regret over the way he took her virginity, humiliated her in public and then tossed her aside. It's better she end up with someone stable like Kazuma who always treated her with love and respect...

I actually liked Kazuma in the beginning but then with all the Midori and Tsukasa development, it really made me wish for them to end up together. Initally, I had given this manga a 10/10 but now it is only 1/10 because of the ending.
