Honestly...

When I saw some of the negative reviews I was skeptical to check this out... I'm also not really into the same shoujo stuff like I use to, and I'm not a fan of love triangles.. at all! But Cat Street was realistic, heartwarming, and anything BUT annoying! I loved how she didn't instantly fall in love with her future husband or didn't do that anything shoujo heriones do when they like a guy but go to his friend...because that doesn't even sound remotely logical!
It was realistic and sweet and the main girl wasn't annoying and she realized her lessons well! The pace was amazingly steady, not fast not slow!
I personally think the reason why this got low reviews is because this is a 'if you want a realistic, steady paced, and heartwarming manga' and not an 'insanely climactic, never ending drama filled annoyance' . Which most shoujo's are!
Cat street is a good read for when you want a not to long yet nicely thought out story. It gets deep but not to deep and its gets you emotional but not to emotional. Aster you're done it's effected you well enough that you get goosebumps at the bittersweet ending!
ENJOY CAT STREET!

Not so good

I expected a masterpiece because everyone loves it so much but I found it incredibly irriating. It started off quite nice but I think it lost it half way through. The characters were all great and the concept of the whole story was good, but it didn't hang together in the end and I started to dislike the characters.
And somehow I lost my grasp on the story somewhere around volume 7. A scene emerged between Keito and Kouchi whereby she claims she hasn't seen him in two years...I had no idea two years had suddenly gone by between them without seeing each other. And suddenly I felt like I didn't wanna read it anymore, it was unromantic and I felt like everything had gone back to square one.
Just became really unappealing for me.
I actually don't recommend this manga, where most other people would...odd.

Cat Street is absolutely recommended! It has perfect art (I picked it up mostly because of the cover art) and I wasn't at all dissappointed! The story was good and not at all predictable (like the other tons of shoujos you can find out there) as well as beautiful! This manga is a must read!

one of my top faves

this manga gave me the same feeling as when I read Ai Yazawa's NANA. When I first read about this manga on the site I was turned away by the boring summary and the boring cover of the pic. But I saw the ratings and I read the comments and was intrigued by how many people were insisting that this manga was amazing and that the summary does not do it justice. Nana immediately came to mind because I had the same reaction to its summary and it ended up becoming my most FAVORITE manga I have ever read. Now this manga is right up there with Nana (but not past it haha). The summary really DID NOT do it justice and I couldn't stop pressing 'next'. I stayed up, like so many others, till 5am unable to stop. It was such a great manga and although a lot of people didn't like the ending, I LOVED IT. It wasn't over the top and it was incredibly fitting. If I were able to, I would save the place that saved me too. And I LOVEDDDDD who the main character ended up with. The guy that I immediately took a liking to was the guy she ends up with YAAAAY! It was really unpredictable and NOT cliche at all! Waaah I haven't read a good manga like that in a long while, it's the kind of manga that touches you deep and leaves an impression. Worth the read. smile

slice of life? really?

I absolutely loved it.. And I think it teaches a great lesson about succeeding in life, and standing up when all your dreams have crushed.. However I would deeply disagree about this being a slice of life type of manga.. I mean yes, it's great that everything works out for Keito, but it's not very realistic (which was probably what I liked most since reality sucks)..
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Nowadays, people would have gotten married to the soccer player instead of the computer geek, and nobody would spend their entire fortunes in the high school they attended.. even if it was being demolished.. Don't mistake me, however! I think the fact that Kouichi spent all his money for this cause makes me like the story even more
but let's face it, it's not something that would happen in real life and even less, nowadays.. And furthermore, yes Keito dropped out of the acting bussiness.. but nobody in their right mind would lock themselves up for 7 years.. It's more likely that they would reach towards drugs and disaster.. but not locking yourself up in elementary school without having your parents do anything about it and then miraculously recover..

it just doesn't happen..

but besides that tiny detail, I think this is one of my favorite mangas.. Highly recommend it!

I loved it, loved it, loved it. The characters, the story, just everything. This was a really good slice of life. The romance was a bit slow but I think that's what made it better. I loved the pairing, because that's what I wanted from the beginning, and UGH. I LOVED IT.

My Favorite Manga

One word to describe this manga personally. Amazing. This manga tops in my lists of Favorite Mangas. My personal opinion is that this manga wasn't one of those clique shoujo mangas where you could predict the plot and practically determine who she would end up with, it had a real life kind of quality about it and even though the ending may seem a bit to up there it was still amazing.

At first I have to admit that the summary and cover bored me and that I had first only read this manga out of sheer boredom. Even if it may seem dull at a glance it's incredible once you get into it.

The simple fact that it's plot is not driven by romance as it's central point while pulling you into each character's stories makes me astounded. This is a manga that gives me new faith in manga, one that fully deserved to be read. I had to force myself to go to sleep at 5am! XD

Pissed off

Good manga, worth reading. Started off amazing, loved the characters. It went downhill at some point near the end and characters began acting out of character; that really pissed me off. Ending sucked. It went from being real and down-to-earth, to sappy, fakeness. Really sloppy work there.

I can relate

I find this story to be perfect for anyone has retired from society in one way or another. I find it teaches valuable lessons. The concept of the free high school, the way that idea is worked, I find fantastic. I'd love more details, would love if it could be viable in the real world. I'll definately be rereading this. It's a very real, very relatable (to me anyway) human story. Some say the main character is overly melodramatic, but this fits the relate-ability bill for people that tend to have rollercoaster emotions that take them to the depths of hell
