From Condensation:
The story centers around Keito Aoyama, a former famous child actor. Due to a childhood incident, she retired from her career early and withdrew from normal society. Now 16, she passes her days in boredom and without purpose. But one day she runs into a stranger who takes her to El Liston--a free school for high school students like herself, who don't have a place where they belong. Though hesitant at first, Keito decides to enter El Liston and subsequently, she begins a new stage in her life. With the help of her only remaining childhood friend, Taiyou, and her new classmates Rei, Momiji, and Kouichi, Keito slowly finds the courage to open up to others and to accept their support. Will Keito return to acting? Will she find true friends? Love?

An outstanding read

Cat Street is one of the few great mangas out there. Many are good, but they all usually lack something to be great. Cat Street does not.

Of all the aspects in Cat Street, it is its characters that shine the most: their interactions with each other and their evolution as time goes on are simply one of its kind. Cat Street succeeds in telling a 'touching story' while never becoming an 'over dramatic story'.

From a male perspective, Cat Street is one of the few drama/romance mangas that succeeds in conveying its story in a realistic manner. What separates it from the rest, however, is that Cat Street is not only reasonable and realistic, but it is also spectacularly touching and endearing.

I love this story, it gives me so much inspiration, and has so much meaning. I could just huggle this series for forever. But.. there was something bugging me for a while, besides all the neat little hints, there always seemed like the manga lacked something, but towards it's end seemed to start to gain, but not completely.

The story is interesting and really worth trying.
A lot of unexpected things, and i recommend this manga for those who like to read realistic and not too dramatic and fake manga..
The only thing that could've been better is probably the art, bt it's already pretty good.

I had high expectations after Hana Yori Dango, and Cat Street totally surpassed them :]!
Kamio Youko has totally improved in her art style and her plots are still very interesting to read biggrin! Yea, you can guess what MIGHT happen, but it's only a MIGHT. It's nothing like the typical cliche shoujo and its definitely moves at the right pace.
It was a little strange, the transaction from one stage of her life to the next, but this is a definite must read biggrinDD!!!! <333 Yay Cat Street x3~

I looked at the ratings on this site before I started reading Cat Street, and I noticed that almost half of the people who have rated it gave it a 10. I began reading with very high expectations because of this, and I was not disappointed. I finished it very quickly and it was definitely worth the read. The focus on friendship and characterization really puts this manga above a lot of other shojo/romance manga. The characters aren't typical, they are all well developed, and the manga doesn't only focus on romantic relationships but also the relationships between a very close group of friends. A must read for any shojo fanatic.

Not HYD

What can I say about this manga that hasn't already been said?

The art is very beautiful, much better than even the final volumes of Hana Yori Dango. The characters are believable, and unlike most shoujos, the story does not focus solely on romance but rather on the four main characters and their growing up and overcoming obstacles in life.

Personally, I would have preferred a bit of a longer story (was I the only one who felt it was over too soon? Not that she rushed the ending or anything, but, after 33 volumes of HYD, eight mere volumes are so short!), and, yes, I usually do enjoy "overly dramatic, soap-opera" manga like Hana Yori Dango.

And yet, I can't help giving this manga a solid 10 because it's just so perfect and fitting, in my opinion. It's very realistic and it also carries an important message.

It's not Hana Yori Dango - very far from it, in fact - and yet it's beautiful and perfect in its own way. I wouldn't have preferred it any other way.
