Heart-warming, Excellent Manga
by naikan

Rating: 10.0  / 10.0
Asou Kai's works are generally pretty good, but this work is definitely one of the better BL manga written. With two volumes, the pacing is on the spot, and we as readers can really see the gradual transformation of Oosawa's feelings. As a hetero male, the mental conflicts and complexity of being pursued by another man are depicted very well, which is usually the failing point of many BL manga that pursue such pairings. The entire process feels very natural, and there is no rush to the smut- although, with Asou Kai, you can be assured of well-drawn steamy scenes.

More than just a story about Oosawa and Yoshioka, the real delight of this manga is the story about Oosawa and Chizu. The father-daughter dynamic is treated just as important, and Chizu is a fully developed, adorable character that lights up the entire manga. My only criticism, if I had to give one, would be that the couple scenes between Chizu and her mother were a tad contrived, and clearly designed to pull on the reader's heartstrings, but even that is forgivable because they were still done very well and fits inline with both the mother and Chizu's personalities.

This manga has a little bit of everything, and although it is only 2 volumes, it is full of substance, and reading it really took me on a long journey with the characters. There is comedy, romance, angst, and a good dollop of smut. Highly recommended.

A story that seems simple but actually is very touching with small pockets of depth with the way the family connects and develops. There's character growth, chemistry and just adorable moments as the story progresses.

A love that develops along the way.

Sometimes, I get tired of love at first sight or love that develops as soon as one of them expresses interests. This manga is an example of some cliches done right. For instance, the seme is a player. Well, he isn't a jerk and he actually has a backstory that helps give his character some depth. Another instance, a lot of characters catch a fever/cold, but it forces the plot along. Or another instance, an insecure uke in need of someone to depend on. Well, the uke is definitely not a weak "heroine." Another thumbs up is the fact that the straight uke didn't jump into a homosexual relationship right away.

The relationship is between two ADULT MEN, and this really is the charm of the story (there's no natural airhead baby to look after). The tone of the manga was sweet, but not overly sugary or fluffy. The angst was just right with no unnecessary drama.

Story - great! Art - bit stiff

The story was really good. It wasn't original, but how the story was told made it flow well. Nothing moved too fast, and while there were a lot of cliches, they were done well. I liked that the uke wasn't a typical uke crying "'no, no!'," nor was the seme "I'm doing you even though you're saying no but what we're doing's not rape because I like you." Basically, I like that it's mutual consent between the two, and that their relationship isn't dominated by either character.

Now, the art. I liked it. I really did; however, at times the characters felt a bit stiff, mainly because she was inconsistent with the jaw length and because she never left a space in the line where the jaw met the neck. I also wasn't thrilled with the way she drew the characters eyes; more than half the time I thought they looked blind, yet when she took the care to distinguish the pupils, they were nice. I also wish she had drawn more backgounds; there was too much empty space. An empty backgrounds good if you're using it too emphasize the character's expressions, but otherwise, you start wondering where they are.

But, aside from the fact that her artwork is a bit stiff, I really liked the character designs. The men looked like men, not flat-chested girls. I'm sure if you read yaoi, you've come across this.

Overall, if you're looking for something to fill a couple hours and you're tired of reading one-shots (most BL that I've found to be any good is no longer than a volume), this is it.

More than special!

Wow! I come back so many times to this yaoi manga, the quality is just way too much! The development between the two men is beautiful and worth reading over and over again. I believe that they are falling in love with each other because of how real Sensei Asou Kai made this story feel to me. The daughter adds more sweetness and loveliness to an already sweet story. A very beautiful love story.

Some people are saying that the yaoi part at the end was not necessary which confuses me because the story involves this two falling in love and being a family. It starts from chapter one until the end. The looks they give each other and the small touches adds to this story so the yaoi parts were everywhere... from the start.

One of my Favourites

I don't normally feel comfortable giving 10/10 because i don't beleive anything is perfect. However, this is one of the few manga i feel comfortable giving full marks to. I read this some time ago and was touched by it. I remember it clearly despite having read it just once so far, but its definiately a manga i will be re reading. First of all, the characters are well built - they have strong personalities but don't feel overbearing, and also they have just the right touch of back story to make them interesting without being too transparent. The chemistry between the characters is also excellent. As for the story - its rather original for yaoi, but its also very sweet and really does reach out and touch you. The development of the story is also well paced, not too fast but not so slow as to make you lose interest.

If you would like a break from all those deep or aggressive yaoi's i would recommend this. Its not fluffy enough to make you sick but has just enough to make you feel lifted. Read it XD

this manga has both a young child, and a straight man turned gay, usually warning signs for me to expect some serious schmalz and ridiculous antics. but instead it's actually very well done. i didn't care a whole lot for yoshioka when i first encountered him as the unfaithful cod in yachin hanbun no ibasho desu, but asou redeems him very successfully here.

i like the slow pace at which the romantic relationship develops; there's no overnight conversion here. i also enjoyed the character of the child, and how yoshioka grows into a father. i was gonna say this was quite realistic, but there are two levels to that. despite their problems everything works out pretty smoothly, nobody opposes them (not even the child's mother and new husband), and while the relationship progresses slowly for BL, oosawa spends no time worrying about the gay thing, and it doesn't actually take long in real time. if only, eh? that's not terribly realistic. but there were sufficiently realistic aspects to it for me to take its seriously, and to feel emotionally moved -- no huge amount of faux drama and angst, oosawa didn't have annoying uke characteristics; just some pretty normal apprehension. and there was no forcing here, and no utterly stupid misunderstandings driving the plot, just people making entirely reasonable decisions that were sometimes just not the right thing to do. oh yeah, and the art is nice too, and the sex scenes are not gratuitous but hot. overall this was the perfect thing to read at the end of a particularly depressing day.

Aaaah! The romance is JUST my cup of tea. Not overly exaggerated, yet still romantic. No dubious consent, and there is no selfish love, where yiu guilt-trip the other person to sleep with you. It is such a genuine love! And it is sooooo sweet!!! Read it!!,

I searched Comedy + Yaoi and this popped up on top, and I am so happy. This is my second favorite manga; it deserves that high rating.

Comedy? Well obviously, check.
Fluff? Double check.
Chizu? Chizu? Chizu is so precious, I s2fg.

The thing about this manga that I loved was that its balance was... just so right. It had a dose of drama, but at the same time, it generally kept to a lighthearted mood while neatly building character development.

Of course, I'll admit that sometimes, the plot seems somewhat contrived...

I agree that it was a bit frustrating that the characters all had to go through colds in order to open up to one another. I wish the author had been a little more creative on that front.

However, I don't think the colds were enough to detract from the manga. First, it's somewhat understandable that the characters get colds; one person came down with it, and spread it throughout the household. I've had that happen in my family before... it really was not a pleasant experience. The only difference was that we simultaneously got colds (in that it spread to my parents before I fully recovered), whereas in this manga, each person "rotated" it, lmao.

Secondly, I prefer the cold as a story vehicle over other alternatives, such as unnecessary jealousy or miscommunication. Of course, this story had a bit of both, but they weren't crucial (i.e. directly related) to the plot. And the thing is, this manga could have easily taken that route; for instance, the ex-boyfriend that came back could have been more persistent. And that would have ruined the manga...

So although this manga has a noticeable flaw, I'm still willing to overlook it and give it a 10.

With that, let me go reread it.

Definitely one that sticks in my mind- I've read God knows how much yaoi, but this one I can still remember really well. I can't exactly put my finger on it, but the emotions just seem so honest in this one. It's not smutty or sex-based, but the relationship between Oosawa and Yoshioka is genuine and sweet, and I just love them and Chizu so much! I recommend it biggrin
