Description
What does gender matter? And why do we accept the social frames that are forced upon us? These questions are taken up when Maho, a male-to-female transsexual, saves Fujiko, a girl from a rich family who's left home and is living on her own, one night, and the two become fast friends.

a beautiful little slice-of-life

I just finished reading this, and thought it was a really beautiful (though too short!) set of conversations between a group of women from different backgrounds. I can't speak for the experiences of trans women as it is not my place (being a lesbian myself/cis), but I feel as though the author did such a wonderful job of portraying such sensitive topics as gender and sexuality. The tone was uplifting, even though it touches on some dark and difficult topics. I love Haruno Nanae's style, and can't wait to read Pieta now. Anyway, I highly recommend this read to anyone. smile

I personally loved this. Don't expect more than conversations, really, but these conversations are very delicate and precious. It's a very interesting manga that focuses on our view on gender, personality and social status/connection to society. The most interesting thing is the conversation about frames. If we have the right frame (job, education, family, relations ...), do people then really care about the picture we actually represent?

The whole thing about Koko-san (and the child) seems somewhat unnecessary, though. But this shouldn't keep you from reading Double House. Definitely worth a read for all of you slice-of-life-fans. Don't expect romance or shoujo-ai, though.

@takitogr - This isn't termed as shoujo-ai, and neither is it termed as romance. Just because the mangaka normally produces shoujo-ai manga, it doesn't necessarily mean that she'll always produce only shoujo-ai. Read the genre tags before reading if you're looking for a very specific genre.

i like slice of life BUT read the summary of the manga inthis page and that's the end of it! nothing else happens...confesses she has feelings and no evolvement of their relationship after that.....not even a single mention of anything like that again...this sure doesn't feel like shoujo-ai to me...pretty uneventful...only some chats among two friends...plus the ending chapter is really lame..it shifts the focus to a completely diffrent character not even being mentioned before and i found that absurd

An interesting manga from the author of Pieta. (Pieta being one of the greatest shoujo-ai manga ever)
Too bad the final chapter is a bit lame and it's only one volume long.
