One of my favorites

It’s actually cute and a bit sad to see Hisaya’s weak side though he acts tough and calming on the outside. Despite his lack of background, I love his struggle and frustration of an unexpected relationship, not wanting to have another fallout if he’s easily into it. I love Munekazu’s soft side and his unconditional love for him; I wish to see his protective side. This comforting relationship moves me this much that it’s in one of my top list.

Surprisingly good!

If you like GOOD semes then you'll probably like this!
I was surprised because given the plot of rich guy taking in a boy and becoming touchy-feely with him and so on, it really seemed like there was going to be force, rape, whatnot.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Especially when Hisaya tells him to do him already, I was already rolling eyes thinking "why do so many yaoi have to go the non-con, rape, force direction?" But no, the seme rejects him and instead says that forcing him would only bring pain and that instead, he wants him to not feel pain anymore.

So yeah, this was a very sweet and positive manga!
The art is gorgeous, the characters are likable.
The oneshot is cute as well.

Not perfect, but pretty good

I’ll admit first off that a Cinderella-esque plot where some kind of suave businessman saves the down-on-his-luck protagonist is one of my favourite clichés, so while Amai Jouken is by no means a perfectly-executed manga, I’m willing to overlook some of its faults. Hisaya is a sensitive tough guy who puts on an apathetic front for the world but is scared and bamboozled by the slightest sign of kindness from others. Munekazu is a competent and intense businessman who hides his real feelings behind a whimsical and joking manner; often his interactions with Hisaya are quite edgy because it’s unclear if his sarcastically-delivered sympathy can be taken seriously or not.

Weirdly enough

I agree that it's not a deep plot, but this was pretty good compared to some fluff. Given Hisaya's past, i can understand his wariness and misunderstandings, even if i did not like it. Under those circumstances, he is not as bad, as some other ukes in other stories.
Personally i would have wished the abuse had not been portrayed as lightly, but i didn't read this to be depressed, so i'm not going to cry about it.

Could have been better

Reading the synopsis i thought 'pretty typical story but it could be good', but it was as cliche as i feared D: its a pity really. I like the art and the story had some merit starting off, but it felt really anti climactic the more i read. That said, though its not special, its not dreadful either. You may like it more than i did, you may not. Im giving it an 8 because its only real letdown is its unoriginality in story, plot and characters.

with pretty but not outstanding art, and with no character development it's completely forgettable 10 minutes after finishing it. which is too bad, because while i am dead bored of crybaby uke like hisaya, i'm fairly happy to see a decent seme -- i just wish there were something else to say here other than that.

Sweet!!

I have to say I'm surprised at the bad reviews. I thoroughly enjoyed this manga. Sure, the plot is not a new one, but for the complainers, let me say that it's a rarity to find such a sweet, caring seme in the yaoi world who from start to end, treasures the uke. The best of them end up being harsh (usually before sex, in a jealous rage or something) but not in this one. That alone earned it a very high rating in my book!

Give it a try, he'll win your heart just like he did Hisaya's! : )

Mediocre

Amai Joken is so mediocre that it's hard for me to find anything to say about it - either good or bad.
The characters are so underdeveloped that I neither liked nor disliked them.
The art is pretty, but it doesn't stand out.
The dialogue is reasonable, but it makes no impact.
The romance is sweet, but seems to pop out of nowhere.

I don't particularly agree with the overly-negative (or overly-positive) comments about this series, but I must admit, I only read Amai Joken this morning and I've already struggled to remember the storyline. What I do remember is thinking about just how short the chapters seemed to be...

A piece of fluffy yaoi to pass fifteen minutes of your time.

I have to disagree with the previous reviewer, I really enjoyed this manga. It was a typical but at the same time it didn't take anything away from it. I found the characters to interesting, and the story engaging and romantic. The art work was lovely, I'm slowly becoming a fan of this manga ka.

This a good read, if you looking anything that isn't deep, just a fun yaoi read, this is it. smile
