Every year I check back to see if this has updated Ch. 49 (started reading this 5 years ago), and still nothing 😭😭😭

I love this manga, I wish there was more hype for it on social media (all the attention goes to the newer manga); Arian is such an interesting MC, and I personally think Griffith is really handsome 😍❤. I want to see how the story continues, especially since there's like 30 volumes published by Bonita now.

This is an epic!!

This is inarguable one epic manga. Revolve around the heroine's adventure and vengeance, the plot stretches to many worlds and cultures and one hell of a cast of characters, but still maintains its cleanliness and has no hint of getting intricate. The depiction of Roman vs Celtic culture, clans war, master and slave relationship... is outstanding for a 'shoujo' manga.

This kind of truly epic manga can't be found nowadays!

Not very good

I have read way better trilogies then Crystal Dragon. However, the story does have its charming moments. The biggest problem I have with it is the lack of character development. I don't feel any connection to the main characters they all seem like cardboard cutouts. The really sad part is that the story artwork is too dated as well as the plot for my taste. But its a good read for someone looking to pass the time on a slow day.

I don't like lord of the rings. And I only like parts of Record of Lodess War.

I don't like this manga either and I want others that come across this to know why. Just in case they are like me.

It's true that the girl character is strong, though not literally. But the problem is that she doesn't really do anything. This is one of those manga where the protagonist has paranormal abilities but her physicality is realistic. Meaning she's a skinny girl without much strength.

The majority of the manga is just the characters moving along while people talk about ephemeral things. There are no real hard actions. And to make up for the girl being weak, she's a magician(a staple of rpgs since the 90s).

But the magic here is seemingly works on its own. The girl doesn't really do anything except decide to continue going forward. That's another problem. She's like a stable, not tragic, Frodo. Basically she stumbles upon some magic creature that helps her JUST CAUSE and they do everything.

been years...

Now, it's been years since i first read this manga (i started in the mid of 90s decade if I'm not mistaken).. and this is the first manga I have ever read. you could say, crystal dragon is my first love in the world of manga. So forgive me if my comment is way too long, you know what happened if you talked about your fave manga smile and please remind me if it contains spoiler that i missed to cover

Yeah, sometime it's pointless and when it suddenly in hiatus for years, it made me think that this manga has already stopped... but .
but this one, thought there's time you think it won't bring you nowhere, is really worth reading for you who is really into the genre of fantasy. hold on my words, i keep my faith for this series for years, it's been on hiatus and pop up once again, and i never drop it off.
as a child, i thought "wow, what is this book? the pictures in it are really beautiful...", and the more i read it the more it serves my fantasy... well, a fairy, a girl with a sword and a wand, fashion style that looks like the one in the painting of botticelli, an adventure, a dragon.... haha.. kind of that.

in short, what keeping me read it for so long is the artwork, the main characters who is - with her ignorance, her tomboyish personality (she more like a boy than a girl tee hee X3), an extraordinary character of shoujo manga, her sometime-selfish ambition, her dedication to her homeland and her best friend Wijnruit and her willingness to revenge, her strength - could make me deeply fall in love. the plot is, somehow, getting clearer in the 20s volumes.. i think plot's already been planned. mm, hope so..

i've read up the volume of 24, and for you who in search for shoujo manga - extraordinary or a mere ordinary - this what i could say : this one absolutely contains no romance like another genre of fantasy (named, basara, kanata kara, anatolia strory, dream saga). Oh ok, except
Spoiler (highlight to view)
for wijnruit x soril
but there is no kind of lame romance it just go straight to the point and the point is also not in the romance ^^). and the main girl, you would never find her crying (eh, i don't know, coz, even there is, i think it doesn't important at all so you wouldn't even notice). Yes she doesn't crying. but she bites, and she kills. Hohoho. There's no particular issue, the point is revenge and seeking for power.

my fave character is glivis.. and this is highly recommended for them who praise high fantasy. And for them who feel it is getting round and round and round just be patient ok? or you can drop it if u like and read it again after it's finished (because, this manga is first created more than 20 years ago.. and... hasn't finished. i kinda try to figure out the 'exit' myself.. how it would be?). I am strangely and strongly attached to this manga, and, eh, enjoy. smile

Melting pot

Looks like we have Gaelic/Celtic,Viking and Roman gods mixed to make a major melting pot of a tale. There are some good points to this story. Though I find myself whispering, "Get to the point already." Seems to be long and drawn out at times. The art is well done... Looking forward to being able to finish the tale.

If you like Basara or Red River, I think you will enjoy this - these mangas give off the same vibes. I really like all the mythical/religious aspects of the story, and they make the story become very magical and unique.

The only thing I wish for in this manga is that Arianrhod have more powers - I think that would make her more interesting.

Nice folk lore, exactly to my taste^^
Though some characters freak me out o.o
For example the fairy with the long blonde hair. At first I thought it was a woman until the main protagonist thought "So he's the king of the Sylphs" o.o*

He seriously looks like a flat chested beautiful woman xD

The mangaka really wove an exquisite epic of revenge and vengeance set amidst a rich backdrop of mythical fantasy and aspects of various cultures. This is definitely highly recommended for any and all who're interested in stories that go beyond the "standard fantasy"(usually based on stereotypes than research) or "stereotypical stories of revenge". Plus, the even balance between mythical, cultural and action so far makes this a fresh air from a lot of typical epic stories. And for once, there don't seem to be any gender or even cultural stereotypes either.

The art is wonderful. The story is intriguing. Great great read! Moreover, there are fairies, witches, etc... Maybe this is like the Lord of the Ring in shoujo version ;)
