Non-con all over, read if it's one of your kinks. (It is for me)

I fail to see why the third story is so much worse than the first two, all three are basically rape-stories, even if the third one may be more blatant about it.
Actually I found the excuse of 'love' (used for the uke AND for the seme of both first couples) to be even more sickening than basic rape/trauma/Stockolm syndrom or equivalent of the last couple. Which is ugly, but it's at least a bit more believable than LOVE. *facepalm*

Anyway, no plot, really twisted if you think about it (it's basically the justification of rape by 'he wanted it, really'), but the smut isn't bad and if you're just looking for fap material, this might just do the trick. ;-)

The first story is actually so bad it's even laughable. I know this is smut, but it was literally only sex. No plot, no character or story development at all. And as if that wasn't enough, I can't even consider it good for the smut alone! The sex scenes were basically thrown on the reader's face, not bothering to have the slightest bit of teasing or whatever. Really wasn't a turn-on on this chapter.

The second one was just a little bit better, but still wasn't actually good. It had a plot, but it was so predictable and left as background that it could've been only sex too. Also, some things were left unexplained. [spoiler]Why was Yoshino watching Tokiwa if he was in love with Nishio to begin with?[/spoler] I kinda liked the almost non-existent plot, though, and it was cute, on a level. I like watching Nishio struggle with his feelings, it's sweet. And he's the type of seme I like, too. Oh, but the uke wearing panties? C'mon, that's not sexy, that's disgusting and disturbing! The rest of the sex scenes were okay, though and some of them were actually good.

The third story was okay. I may be twisted, but I like the concept of it. I prefer dub-con or non-con over the rest, so I found this really enticing. What I find interesting too is how people get so pissed or shocked with this story. Guys, it's not supposed to be deep, intense or even handled carefully. Higashino-sensei just found herself an excuse to put in more sex and didn't even think about treating the matter as something actually important. I don't particularly care when there's rape in yaoi...I mean, c'mon, you can't take every manga seriously.
I love Shizuki and how sensei changes completely after he's been teased. Pretty predictable, too, but I like those scenes where the uke just can't forget the seme's touch...that scene in the rain was really strong.

Overall, I'd say this was to be rather medium. It's not too bad, but it isn't very good either. I enjoyed parts and moments, so it's not a completely waste of time. I like the art, too. It seems softer and more delicate than the rest of Higashino You-sensei's stuff. Oh, but this whole manga was very like her.

PS: This shouldn't be called the Kiss series, since the least they do is kiss.

There are some parts of this that I loathed and some parts I actually quite liked... The first story was pointless S&M smut crap to me. Labelling it "love" was so lame cos I personally felt no feeling or real bond between the characters at all. It was a waste of time cos not even the sex, which was the whole point of the story, was good or hot. Didn't do anything for me. The second story, especially contrasted with the first one was a lot better. That one I actually liked. There was, I think, some genuine turmoil going on with the seme. And the love and tender feelings the couple shared were sort of camouflaged with that whole master/slave relationship. True, the seme was a bit of an ass and the uke was your typical submissive crybaby but there was enough originality to it to keep it interesting. When it comes to your ordinary " is it just sex or could it be love?" type of yaoi this was the best I've read cos the dubious nature of the relationship wasn't due to any perverted scheme by the seme. It was because the seme was genuinely confused. As for the third story I wholly agree with everything cyberdeck said. Complicated issues that weren't developed far enough. It could have been good but the interesting initial setting was botched up by a cliché ending. Still, I didn't completely hate it, I just wish there was more cos the idea had potential. I'm giving this a really generous 6.5/10 cos the art was nice throughout and it really wasn't all bad...

If you read the categories for this volume and have read sensei's previous work then you know what to expect. If you enjoy darker stories of Sadists and masochists; where the Sadist master truly "loves" their slave, then you will love this book. It's certainly not for the faint of heart for those that like shounen-ai more than hard yaoi, but most S&M stories fans will think of this one as good fluff.

Chap. 5-6 are truly adult themed and need to be thought about or they will just piss you off.

The mangaka tried to mix typical storyline formulas without actually thinking about the themes she was introducing. Chapters 1-2 and the extra, yaoi, with a light bdsm twist. Too short to make it fun. Chaters 3-4, hastily thrown together, no depth, badly edited. Chapters 5-6, an emotional firestorm treated too casually to do anything but evoke intense feelings in the reader as they react to themes that were not developed.

Chapters 5 and 6 are such a complex issue that they might take volumes to present in a way that would engage the reader. It might be a romance, but it is a dramatic one.

Someone made a comment "and obviously he really wanted it even back when he was a boy! *gah*. that just goes over an internal line i have, because this is an excuse actual pedophiles use. " I vehemently disagree with this. There was no implication that he "wanted it back then" that I could see. Also, while a pedophile may convince a child that he 'wanted it', in order to tie it to this story, the teacher would have had to know the boy was molested and the teacher would have had to leverage it, to tie it to pedophiliac intent. That did not happen. What happened was that the teacher was pushed, and like in any number of yaoi manga, he pushed back.

In those last two chapters we have a criss cross of hard core reality being mixed with hard yaoi. I have read similar stories, with the exact same reference points and they were given pretty high ratings by the reader. But I think because the mangaka added one element, she is going to get an intense emotional reaction from the reader. I'm reacting to the viciousness of the reviewers and how off target they are. This was a stupidly handled story. The element is that the uke spouts rabidly homophobic statements and even harasses the seme viciously. This sets a tone that does not fit the seeming intent of the story, a romance. It is too emotionally intense to transition into a love story without massive development and time.

The story follows a typical hard yaoi theme. By eliciting the mixed bag of emotions that comes with child molestation, rape and someone who reacts in one of the typical ways to it (which is rarely addressed in this medium), the mangaka opened up a huge story and then dropped the ball. The mangaka did not consider that she showed someone realistically reacting to being molested as a child and then tried to shoehorn it inta a happy ending. This work should have been several mangas or volumes all on its' own.

By the way, what I mean by realistic, it is not uncommon for a rape victim to despise sex. A woman raped by a man, can very easily become unable to have relations with men. A boy raped by a man, can become a radical homophobe. The victim becoming a persecutor of others that he sees as a focus for his pain. There are quite a few other reactions, I'm commenting on the ones that were used.

If that rape/molestation was physically enjoyable, the guilt associated with it can be immensely destructive. Rape is violence to the body and the mind.

The boy in this story, may or may not have been straight, bi or gay. The implication from the story is that he was dating girls before he became involved with the teacher. Again, the mangaka didn't develop the story and either introduce the concept of him being bi, or becoming bi because his feelings were more important to him than the physicality of his partner. My guess is that the mangaka was following the typical formulas used in yaoi stories where the straight guy falls in love with another guy. Or the "I only can love one man, so I'm not homosexual" formula which is also popular in yaoi. She did not consider how that would mix with the intense concepts that she chose to throw into the story.

All in all, if a good writer took chapters 5-6 and used them as a synopsis, a very intense and memorable story could be told and it could even have a happy ending.

same old, same old, and then some extra sprinkling of utter crap on top. higashino's art has gotten much better over the years (i didn't use to like it at all, while now it's rather pleasant to look at), but her story telling skills are as bad as ever. the first two stories are standard "sadistic seme forces uke into perverted H stuff, which uke then comes to like". i'm so bored by that, i don't even find the sex hot anymore (i am also turned off by crying uke) -- i think what most bothers me about it are the exhortations of LOVE at the end; if you want to give me sadistic non-con, do so, but do it straight up. spare me excusing it with "love".

the last story, however, is what truly stinks here, because the boy has a history of sexual abuse, which higashino apparently just threw in casually as a motivation for why he hates gays -- we then proceed to have him raped multiple times by a teacher, and of course he ends up coming to like it, can no longer get it up for women, but lusts after sensei now, and obviously he really wanted it even back when he was a boy! *gah*. that just goes over an internal line i have, because this is an excuse actual pedophiles use. and apparently higashino really thinks this is a probable scenario, judging from the atogaki, and i worry what impressionable people without sufficient insight will take from this story -- reviewer Naokiyukimura already made me throw up a little in my mouth. while i can handle abuse, even if used for hurt/comfort scenarios, i really dislike abuse being used so casually for mere titillation. i am ranking this a personal "1" (do not ever touch again) for that. otherwise, because the art doesn't suck, and the first two stories are very standard in BL, and obviously liked by many, i'd give it a 5.

Decent Manga

If you're into light to medium BDSM, this is probably the story for you. Nothing too hardcore, but still fun to read all the same. This manga gets a 5 from me, for while it was good, I don't think its anything spectacular on its own.

The first Chapters, 1-4 (plus the extra) are very delicious S&M smut set in a high school setting. While the stories themselves (with two different couples) seem too end too quickly, its a fun read. Nothing totally amazing, but its certainty not bad either. I really enjoyed reading them, to see a story that actually portrayed the definition of S&M in a "truer sense" as it were. Nothing mushy or too "lovey dovey" here, and you can tell the two couples rather like each other towards the end (even if the chapters seem to end a bit abruptly).

Chapters 5 and 6 - Two chapters focused on high school student Shizuki, who had been molested by a guy as a child (its briefly mentioned only once). He has a strong dislike for gay's, specifically targeting his hatred towards his homeroom teacher, Yamada. While Shizuki's antics against his teacher keep escalating, eventually he gets into trouble with Yamada and is forced to come to the prep room every day after school.

An interesting S&M based story, based upon a boy who more then likely realized his homosexuality early, becoming scared by what he was feeling during his 'experience'. He grows up denying himself (and apparently, his masochistic tendencies) until he meets Yamada-sensei. Their relationship is not the typical BL story, as it seems to highlight the epitome of S&M love, and how impossible it is to really deny your true feelings. Shizuka's hidden feelings for his teacher was more then likely the reason his "past" chose to reassert itself, in turn confusing him and turning his world upside down.

Chapters 1-4 are pretty standard smut for Higashino You.

The last story, ch5-6, is where the disturbing kicks in. I know that there's a fair dollop of "fantasy forced sex" in many yaoi manga, which is supposed to be some beautified form of rape. However, this last story crosses a line. The protagonist was sexually molested as a young boy, leading to this irrational fear of all homosexual men. Instead of the author trying to address his emotional damage, he gets raped and humiliated throughout the manga and eventually realizes that he "wants it" and it is implied that his child self had "wanted it" too. How on earth the author tries to pass that off as romance is just twisted.
