If you're a fan of Red River - a manga with an elaborate storyline and unforgettable characters - just a heads up, Mizu ni Sumu Hana won't live up to Red River's marvelous complexity, but, nonetheless, Mizu ni Sumu Hana's simple storyline and same cast of characters are marvelous in my eyes. There were some moments when I was confused, other times I was tearing up, and there were moments when I was sitting at the edge of my seat in utter suspense. The art was fantastic, though the length of the main characters hair was a little much for me, because she's supposed to be a modren aged teen. Maybe a moren hairstyle would have made her seem more realistic? (That' just my opinion though). Other than that, the only problem I had was with Izumi's personality, it was so here and there, like I couldn't understand his actions at all until things were explained more indepthly. Which I am assuming is the author's way of making him mysterious, but after reading Red River I was quiet confused with Chie's method of making Izumi mysterious. But, aside my two complaints, this manga is definitely a good read!
On a side note: When I first read this manga, I read it online, I don't remember the name of the site, but it cut off the manga right when the White Dragon awakened. And on the site they had it marked as completed! Needless to say I was about ready to rant on and on about how this manga didn't have a proper ending, but then a friend directed me to a site that had the WHOLE and correct ending. Thank goodness.
Decent art with a pretty decent story, not the best you'll ever read but for me at least above average and it had me entertained for a couple of hours... still a recommended read though.
Not that I really mind, but for a romance shoujo manga there isn't much romance going on. The little bit that could be referred to as romance is childish and shallow, something you would expect in a typical shounen manga. Ignoring the lack of depth in romance I'm glad the female lead isn't stupid and a complete masochist (as in a lot of romance manga)... though the male leads are a bit stereotypical.
Sadly ShoujoMagic closed down and no other group has picked up the project, so if you aren't fluent in Japanese your'e left with a huge cliffhanger (at the end of ch19). You've been warned!
Correction, final chapter has now been translated.
Ah~ Its an okay manga. I just cannot get myself used to the art and stuff... so old fashioned, it reminds me of the illustration of Candy Candy or Itazura na Kiss...
i thought this was just another typical shoujo manga with predictable story lines and all.... but boy, was i wrong!! not only is the artwork beautiful, but the way the story progresses, it just keeps you hanging on to your seat(or in this case laptop/desktop) every chapter just gets better and better.... must read.. definitely a must read, especially if you're a shoujo manga fan looking for GOOD shoujo mangas that're more than smut and with substance.
