Not my cup of tea but it's overflowing with so much charm, it's impossible to not like it! Very original in nearly every aspect. Also, super retro.

the real draw to me, is the guro-cute artwork. it remind me of those bearbricks. i love those big eyes and everything look super plump and fluffy like cotton candy. the art lend extra unrealty to the plot, which, interestingly enough, is leshed amply and if come for the art, you will surely stay for the plot. the characters are hard to distinguished from each other partly because of the art, partly because there are soo many of them and i tend to not remember names easily. add points for the trivia, i love reading stuff like that.

a good manga to pass a trippy time.

I tried out the first chapter and even though the concept is interesting there is no coherency (which I guess is the point) and the art doesn't distinguish its characters properly making it hard for the reader to keep track of them.

Interesting concept, awful execution.

Most of the previous comments were obviously written by people who have no liking for mangaka who ignore traditional story-telling methods and dare to try out something new and unique. If you are also such a person, then don't bother with this one.

Pure Trance is definitely one of the most non-cliche stories I have ever encountered in any medium. It paints a very different picture of a post-apocalyptic world than the one to which fans of the theme are accustomed. The bizarre, often sadistic characters and the mind-bending weirdness of the various species of creatures that populate this world is sufficient to discourage most would-be readers; but I for one found these elements very much to my liking.
As for those who complain about the complete lack of a logical plot-line - maybe you should try reading this without any preconceived prejudices against its unusual appearance? Because the plot, though utterly surreal, is most definitely present.

The art is amazing. Being a fan of uncommon artwork, I was delighted with Mizuno Junko's gothic kawaii drawings, which are essentially a blend of cuteness and cruelty. No other style would have been better suited to the depiction of these odd people and their equally odd, illogical lives. If you're expecting to simply skim the pages and not pay close attention to each panel, the resulting confusion is hardly surprising, as it is a very detailed and complicated style of illustration.

Pure Trance is for people who do not reject something simply because it steps outside the boundaries of convention. If you're like me and love manga that break the typical cliches so well-known among the manga-reading community, consider this recommended!

Do not like

The art is very cute, if you ignore all the blood and violence. It's like watching little girl dolls beat and cut each other to death. Maybe the mangaka intends that to be the joke, but it just doesn't evoke any humor for me at all.

The characters all look very, umm maybe, cherubic. I had great difficulty distinguishing between the many characters because they are all very similar in appearance.

The story is very incoherent and random. From what I can decipher, every one of the girls is a junkie, and they all have unique addictions. Those addictions lead them to perpetrate acts of extreme violence upon each other, in some cases purely for a temporary "high."

Sorry, I can't recommend this manga to anyone because even after several chapters I can't quite understand what's supposed to be going on. Check the other remarks if you think you still might like this manga.

I'd recommend this to anyone on a severe acid trip, or who likes cute/gothy things. Or drunk. If you're looking for a story that doesn't completely make you wonder what the hell is going on, this isn't the story for you.

I absolutely love Junko Mizuno's artwork. It's a wonderful mix of cuteness and macabre goth. The story left a lot to be desired, but I really see this as more of an artbook with a story to it than a true manga.

If you like Junko Mizuno's artwork, then by all means, give this a shot. If you like really bizarre stuff, you'll also probably like this.

The story is okay, I guess. As for the artwork style of the drawings, I'm not too fond of it and I had a hard time reading the manga because of it. It looks it like somewhere in the area of Powerpuff Girls, but much better. This manga is not a must read, but if you are curious to know what it is about, then check out this manga for yourself.
