After finishing the 18 volumes, I can say that this was a very good romance-sports type manga (funny how the two genres just go well together!). It was a plus for me that the sport was badminton, which I can relate to.
There is an absurd amount of badminton scenes (warning to those who read just for the romance), and the art, although good, is very repetitive (So many of the girls/guys look alike).
Not to spoil anything, but I'm also very satisfied by the ending!
EDIT: *to the one above, I used to, now I can't do sports anymore.
Like said above the badminton is shallow, but what I meant is the amount of pages it takes.

i haven't been able to read a romance-sports type of manga for a long time. the last time i think was Suzuka, which, if we'll compare it with this, is way below the standards. but still, there's uniquness that can be found in here. the way the love/romance setting is being shown can be easily grasp. although on the sports side, storywise, there's some cohesiveness that is needed here. but still, a must read for those romance type reader.

Ok it started of weird, but after 10 or so chapters, its really nice. Only one problem, IT ENDED TO QUICKLY!!! Whats with the rushed ending?
Warning: This is NOT a sports manga, its romance one with sports as it subplot.
Lastly, this is recommended for light reading, the character motivation is weird, and everything is all over the place, but it meshes in well. Happy Reading.

This manga started off pretty good. For the first 60 chapters or so, it kept me sooo hooked up and I just could not stop reading it, feeling almost like Suzuka without the drama. But after that it became a bit predictable, and although it was still a great manga, it did not interest me as much as the first 60 - 70 chapters did. Toward the end, I felt like the manga starts to increase it's pace, and jumps around all over the place. The time skip toward the ending feels extremely rushed. Although it was great as a shounen manga, the ending was just average for a romance one. Still, at least it's a happy ending. And the side couples are definitely more interesting than the main couple. I still like the main couple though, despite the rush development toward the end. The extra chapter did give a little bit of clarification, but no where near enough in my opinion.
It's a great shounen/sport/romance manga. The art was pretty good. The plot was pretty decent too. And the ending, as I said earlier was good for a shounen, average for a romance. So overall I guess it's an above average manga. I had a pleasant time reading it.

And original at that, must be one of the only mangas which focuses on badminton. The enidng, after the match with Hayashi feels rushed though. I would have liked it to be a bit more developped.
The romance kinda sucks though, at least it was not to my liking. Basically nothing happens, and I didn't feel any empathy toward the lead girl. It just didn't feel real to me.
So I recommend it, but there are some better mangas out there. Especially if you search for a good romance. This is a sports manga with romance as a subplot, not the opposite.

"Romance cum sports" or "Sports cum Romance" it can be defined either way as for me ? i think it's a perfect blend of both the genres...only other manga that i could think of was Suzuka but the latter half was more concentrated on Romance over there
I love the Side couple in this one Miwa and Anan and was rooting for them throughout...the main couple is alright but their puppy love got old for me real fast
I like how the MC is strong player and doesn't lose often for the sake of extending the plot unlike one of those Weak ass shonen Trope players (looks at Baby Steps)
Overall highly enjoyable read

Its not bad but is gets tedious in the later half. Game after game most of the later half is all one badminton game after the other. They cut off the childhood friend too soon which prevented an interesting plot development.

Smash! is a sport manga with badminton as its main topic, which you could say it was rare to find ...
I like it at the beginning, the sport-action inside nice enough, though the art not good at first, but its develop and getting better as the chapter goes.
like genre001 said, its a good read for those who seek for romance sport manga
I just hope ... even its seems so far away ... shouta have a sweet relationship with miwa ...
*a little spoiler, sorry for that but I'm desperate by how far they are even though they close* T_T

I think one should put this manga in the category of promising at first but not able to keep up the standard later on i think the character development was very good especially Anan who probably was the best character unfortunately the manga is not a pure sport manga but badminton is merely the background for the story the technicalities are overlooked and the end is very weak but 10 for the art .
decent manga without being really good .

i really wish i found good badminton manga,
but this one is mainly romance.
badminton technique is scarcely mentioned,
makes this manga pretty useless for me.
but the romance is well told,
its enjoyable.
i do hope, this manga turn out to be like nodame,
greater content on badminton, while not leaving the goodness of its romance.
reading light badminton manga would be delightful,
i play badminton after all.
