Description
Back in the day, that place was a house filled with magic - a place where you ended up smiling even if you were crying. Surely, an invisible wizard must have lived there. Or so I thought.

What's a young child to do when her mother leaves her father for another man? Or when her father remarries a woman who brings along a child from a previous marriage? Or when her childhood neighbor friend invites her to live with him? [Mixini Studios]

One of few shoujo gems

It hasn't got any of that mushy, floweriness that makes so many shoujo annoying to read at times. In fact, it seems to blur the division between the shoujo/seinen romance genres. Incredibly sweet, freaking fantastic drama when it comes to familial relations (and Mao's relationship with her new friend), great romance (for the most part) and frequent, light-hearted comedy. biggrin

Great read.

EDIT: Just thought I'd mention, this series isn't about romance. That's a heavy part of it but it's mostly about family. And belonging, I guess. Though I hate to say that thanks to seniour high school English >.>
Anyways, family.

Blunt hero

I am happy that I chose to read this manga. Taamo has always been one of my top ten favorite Mangakas. The art is cute, the characters are interesting but the hero is blunt at first. You might get a bit annoyed how he keeps going on and on about the girl that he likes even though he might/have not noticed the heroine's feelings. But Mao is still no. 1. She may have been the annoying girl next door but she deserves to be seen as a lady, too. But anyway, this manga is very much recommended to Taamo lovers as well as shoujo readers!

I don't know. It's pretty cliche. It tried to make an epic, beautiful story but it wasn't too convincing for me. Maybe it was that ever-common love triangle the author inserted. The characters were pretty typical and not exactly 'likable' either.

The manga made a pitiful attempt to distinct it self from others, but it's still quite cliche and there's really nothing special about it. The art was simple and cute- again, nothing gorgeous.

I like this kind of shojo manga, it's so lovely. Well, I like most of Taamo's works, but Taiyou no ie is the best for me. Simple, but that simply touch my heart. I got my cheeks red, pain in heart, smile, teary, and scream *in my heart* when i read this series up to now. I love how Taamo made reader's emotion up and down.

Pretty simple and not what I'd call especially memorable. The characters are either very flat or stereotypical and the plot tries to be complicated, but fails a bit. I kind of get tired of how Mao's parents are made to be like...the source of all evil. They're human too. It would've been kind of nice to get to know their reasons.

In short, it's a cute, quick shoujo fix, but I find the family issues too simplified and one-sided.

There is something so insanely pretty and breathtaking about House of the Sun. You get thoughts, feelings, emotions. All wrapped up in melancholy. But, it's not as if the melancholy is depressing. Just, realistic. Something able to relate to. I read a lot of shoujo. But, possibly nothing even remotely close to this. The plot is beautiful, the emotions, the characters, the meaning. Everything about it is beautiful.

And there's more, Mao is a FASHIONISTA, at work, at home (even her clothes for sleeping!), on weekends, and don't even get me started on her hair. Oh gosh, her hairstyles are so cute it makes me want her hairstyles. Think about it, how many mangakas vary up their heroine's clothes and hair that much? Few.

Turning out to be a favorite

I cried while reading the very first chapter. I cried while reading the second chapter. I even cried during several other chapters. The parents in this story make me angry (except the Nakamura's) Mao's dad is a complete asshole and it seems like he really doesn't care about his daughter. I wanted to kill him everytime I saw him. Edit: Seems like he too has so emotional problems. I can kind of understand him, but he still really pisses me off. I wanna scream "JUST TELL HER HOW YOU FEEL, Dumbass!" Urgggh! I really understand Mao. She was pretty much abandoned by her parents (that is called neglect and is abuse) because mine did something similar. She must be so lonely.

I really love Hiro. His expressions are great and he's a gentle male lead. He's nice and sweet and very good to Mao. Its funny how he reads her story lol.
Mao is a very stong heroine. and I feel so bad for her. Though I'm happy, it seems like her love isn't so unrequited.Heeeheee. I cant wait to read more.

Hey, I've read tons of shoujo and a lot of them with storylines like "a young girl moves in with her teacher" blah blah. They are always AWFUL. So I went into reading this only for the adorable art, not expecting a lot from it, but I was pleasantly surprised. I've read works by TAAMO before and I like some, don't like some, so it's not like he's my favorite. BUT this one? One of his better works. I really like the main character and the guy Hiro. They have so many cute, funny moments, as well as bittersweet and tender ones because of the background story on the girl's family. It's a great slice-of-life manga mixed in with romance, but not sickeningly too much of it. I think the pacing's good too. Not so fast it's stupidly unrealistic, but I wouldn't call it boringly slow either. It's just right.
