In the immediate future, a giant meteorite has collided with earth. All living organisms, including mankind, have been wiped off the face of the planet. The government, who had foreseen this outcome, took measures to counter the worst-case scenario. In particular was Project "7 SEEDS", in which five sets of seven gifted young men and women were carefully selected and placed into teams (Spring, Summer A, Summer B, Autumn and Winter). Each participant was then put under cryogenic sleep in hopes of preserving the continued existence of mankind.
When those men and women awoke, they found themselves suddenly thrust into a cruel world. While bereft and grieved over forever losing their loved ones, they sought to find ways to survive.

Don't stop trying to read it because of the art

This manga is awesome. I was hooked since the beginning even if I didn't like the art and the first main character at first. All these problems disappeared in a second. I couldn't stop reading it and I spend all night awake until I could finish all translated chapters.

It is very different from the other shoujos. We don't see much romance and that's what I'm really looking for to happen but it is great. I think all comments above have said enough about the history. So give it a try, you won't regret.

Super interesting, and great story.

...But I can't take any of the straight pairings seriously when they throw so much ho yay at you. And then they KILL all the pairings you ship! Yaaay! ...Christ, I must be a masochist.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Fubuki x Aramaki. Dead. Ryou x Ango. One-sided., what's with those really gay Ango x Arashi moments? I don't ship them, but seriously--

Many people have already written a review about what I want to or would say.. So let me just say this. It is absolutely fantastic!! She really has it. From beginning to now it has been wonderful, the plot hasn't faltered at all, it has always been interesting. Always. Some people really have it. They just have the full ability and the others.. well they copy off of that ability, but she, right her for sure has the ability. It is a pleasure to read this and I will continue following closely until the end.

This is amazing manga!!!! I was hesitant at first if i should read this but decided to give it a try. I love it after I began to read it. I had to take break a few time from reading to calm down. I was in tears a few times then happy tears when good things happen. There not much for me to say since it's already been explain in other comments. If this is ever license, I will absolutely buy this manga. I give a 10.

Are you tired of whiny, immature shoujo heroines who remain the same through-out the entire story? Have you ever found yourself cringing at unrealistic plot twists? Are you sick of depthless love-at-first-sight romances? Have you had enough of stereotypical characters and predictable plots?
Do you want something more? More depth? More development? More nerve-shattering, breath-holding moments? Something that would hook you and keep you on the edge of your seat?

Then this epic manga is truly the one for you.

Set in a distant post apocalyptic future, 7 seeds is a suspenseful and quite outstanding shoujo manga, the most realistic (in its portrayal of human emotions, thoughts and actions) manga I have ever had the pleasure to read. It's thought-provoking and unpredictable, makes you think about what you would have done had you been in the same situations as the characters. It lets you see the story through the eyes of the characters and drags you with them through dangerous situations, giving you a taste of their fear, sadness, courage, hope, happiness and will to survive. The pace is never monotone and Tamura Yumi's story-telling invites you to read further, to discover further, to feel further with the characters.

One of the major strengths of this series is the characters. Each one of them is incredibly deep and complex, driven by realistic feelings, making them very easy to identify with. No two characters are alike, personality-wise and they all have distinct, easy to tell apart appereances.
Tamura Yumi masters the art of steering your emotions and she knows how to make you hate, love, cheer for and cry for her characters.
The development is strong but slow, and the characters you'd have hated in the first chapters would be very dear to you over the course of 10 chapters. Some become stronger and more confident as they learn to cope with the situation, others sink into despair and guilt but in the end the characters will have grown on you one way or another.
The romance comes endlessly slow (some would say too slow) but when it does come, you'll be astounded by how true and authentic it'll feel. Slow, realistic, stable and endlessly heart-warming. That's true love and if you are a hopeless romantic like me, your heart will be beating steadily and you'll be fangirling like crazy at those moments.

One thing that is hard to adjust to when starting to read 7 seed is the art. I've had my moments of irritation at first but I was glad that kept reading. The art does gets better and in time you'll be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery, characters and places.

I know you'll love it and you will most definitely not regret reading this manga.

Although there's an excess of emotional scenes, with people crying (pretty much every chapter at least once), this manga is a very good read. You can see that the author has taken her time to research lots of details, and the story is consistent. The tragedy factor, for people who are into it, is also very apperaling.

The following lines will contain a few spoilers by the way, so be warned. It's also more of a rant directed to this guy, SwallowedGod, who seemingly doesn't know how to read.

At no point it's said the teams are the only survivors in the entire world. They only know of the place in which they currently are, which is Japan. They even have theories about other nations maybe having done similar projects, or having gone to the moon or whatever. The teams are looking for survivors in Japan, as well as keeping hope there might be other people in different countries - they even send a message in a bottle, which implies someone will eventually find it. That's how it goes in fiction. Learn how to read before writing crap.
As for the people who've been chosen because of knowing different languages, that further proves that you're wrong at your assumptions. They were chosen precisely because there might be survivors from other countries, hence they should be able to communicate.
The manga shows Japanese people because it's placed in Japan, and 7 Seeds is a Japanese project. One would think that would be very easy to understand. If you're gonna complaint about the story being about Japanese people, then I guess you're making a serious mistake. Let's see mainstream series such as Bleach; there's this Soul Society thing, where people's souls go when they die, and they're all Japanese. Now that'd be an example of the bullshit you're referring. 7 Seeds has no such bullshit.
You may dislike the series, of course, that's up to your preference, but don't go on saying it's because of racism, when said manga has nothing of the sort.

do not buy into what people are saying I am saving you a lot of time by warning you this manga is full of cliches illogical actions by the protagonists and antagonists its painfully stupid and awkward the characters are unappealing there are plot holes every and let me reiterate this its just plain illogical nonsense. I mean there is one group that practices foreign languages that are not even useful I mean when are you gonna use english or spanish when the only people left alive are japanese? oh ya forgot that part too if the world leaders got together they wouldnt go ok if were gonna perserve people lets just perserve japanese only.......ya uhh not only is that racist but its also asinine I mean seriously to believe your people would be the only ones picked? uhhh ya no this manga would be and could be better if the groups werent all japanese it just became stupid illogical and the plot holes were too much to take. The biggest one is the fact that it says other countries have done the same yet there have been no references to any other groups but the ones in the manga

This work is so good, I know some people might get turned off by the art but once you get past that, it's just the plots and twists, the anxiety. What will happen next?
Everything is too creative. So much thought has been put into this. Like the author has thought of every situation, hundreds of alternate situations. Well thought out.
And towards the newer chapters above 100, you're like, Wow so many things have happened.. then they introduce like even more things that make you think it's endless like One Piece, you;re wondering - It's 100 chapters, when will it end? They are not even close to the half of the story.. or is it going to be a stupid ending where they realize they're happy and going to keep exploring their dreams. But that's unlikely, so just keep up with it.

I would advise that you wait a while before starting, because you're going to wait for monthly releases until you forget half of the things you read until they mention it.

To the person above me:
There are only like 2 or 3 persons that speak other languages, and the characters can barely survive on their own, let alone travel on sea to America and meet other people. Do you know how long it would take to travel around the world by ship? Like months! They don't even have suitable ships or even any supplies. It would be completely illogical if they set out to look all over the world when they haven't even made a suitable establishment. And the same for other countries. And no one said there aren't any foreign people alive! That's the whole point of having translators, duh.
