I watched the anime of Spiral which lead me to read the manga. I have read the entirety of Spiral manga. I must say I love this author's style of art and storytelling.
First-off, the intensity of the mysteries (or action) grew as more people got involved. I found that exciting. The plot twists may seem rushed at times, but all-in-all I think they were well-planned.
Secondly, there wasn't a main character that I didn't like, and that's rare.
A lot of people might have found Ayumu annoying due to his inferior complex and such, but as someone whose also grown up with an inferior complex, his personality gave me a lot of insight on myself. Hiyono grew on me due to her intelligent ways of boosting Ayumu's confidence and gaining information.
I was also drawn into the Blade Children; people who claimed had no hope and no reason to live. Each of them had unique personalities which kept them interesting. Never did figure out why Eyes always brought Rio melons. T_T
The anime is good for if you want to see if the story is worth your time. I was drawn into the anime due to the music, however I was disappointed later to find they only used 6/15 Volumes in the anime and made Kanone look like a villian when he was a neutral character.
If you like Kyo Shirodaira's manga, I might recommend taking a look at Record of Fallen Vampire and see what you think.

may seem interesting at first but i assume the writer started to lose interest, or was hurrying for a conclusion. reading up to volume 14, you realise the manga is unnecessarily melodramatic, focussing its plot twists on the most mundane of situations. furthermore, what i thought started off as a type of detective/mystery genre, ends up as a pseudoscientific, religious hogwash. in all, quite disappointing. attempts to have a deep plot, but in the end it is farily banal.

This is manga is good but it has some annoyances that I would prefer they fix like the constant brother complex and the hints at romance but nothing developing(I would acctually prefer they leave it out than developing it the way they did.) Otherwise good mystery.
good but missing something...

this has an element (a genre if you will) in it that is not listed; and for a good reason... although it is constantly pushed at, and always hinted throughout the manga; it never happens, this is frustrating to the point that it would've been more enjoyable had they left it out... i wouldn't say this beats Conan in the creativity of the cases but the overall plot is certainly something to look at

one of my favorites mysteries of all time
the problems are very though out and the way their solved is also amazing...i love how the characters influence each other and their personalities
i really like that girl that hangs out with the main guy...shes just awesome! =]
there's just soo much suspense and questions unanswered that it just keeps you waitin for more and more....
i really hope this series is updated though...i realy can't wait for the next chapter

I watched the anime before reading the manga, but I still think that the manga is waaaay better than the anime. It's a great series with a list of strong characters esp. Hiyono-chan~ Gotta love her..

The reasoning used in the series is pretty great the only thing is that the series gets REALLY wordy at times, and when I mean wordy I mean a overuse of random figurative babble.
A great detective manga requires thinking..

The manga was awesome, though not long but some of the speeches need a little examine to solve the mysteries :] (took me like 1 week to finish the whole manga =.="") Recommend for people who love detective cases/mysteries like detective conan.
Very Nice

This is a great manga with good artwork and a thick plot.
The character developement is good and the plot twists make things more fun and interesting. (Especially at the end ^^)
There isn't much action, but there is enough of it later on in the manga.
Probably one of the best mystery mangas I've read.
