I actually like the ambiguity nature of these two's relationship and how the doujinka kept it that way even by the end - it suits their personalities and makes it feel real, considering the fact that both Gintoki and Hasegawa are rather laid-back and would normally not go out of their way to confront their own emotions. Kyuugou is very good at exploring the depth of a character's thoughts and feelings after all, so her 'meatier' works that specially dig deep down like this one are always a treat.
