Itís a very, very good one-shot. Freaking well developed for such a short story and really complex, just the way I like it. It even got me crying a little! But has indeed some way to go. It missed something, though Iím not quite sure of what.

I get how people say it is a little difficult to understand Ė thatís true. I didnít understand Meiís position at first and the Sato thing was a bit confusing Ė though it was very poetic, if you think about it.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Since Mei was using Sato as a substitute too, he called the guy he really lovedís name

All in all, Sato used Mei and hurt him badly, because of revenge; Akira abandoned Sato for a guy who didn't even love him; and Iida got hold of another guy's boyfriend to try to chase another guy and hurt everybody else. Meaning if they had courage and didnít use others for their own good Ė which mostly didnít work out and almost didnít for the main characters either Ė they wouldnít have suffered so much.
Have you ever thought that Mei could end up with Iida and Sato would still be with Akira? Though it would be Sato whoíd be unhappy, not Iida, like it ended up.

Even though it had a happy ending, it left me with a bittersweet taste...

i like this a bit better than the sequel. I never really notice names of side characters all that much so the amount of 'sato' that were apearing was sort to have to read the second bit twice to get it.
the first part is really touching. its a basic storyline- 'revenge turns into love'- but the way the mangaka wrote it was quite lovely. leaves a warm fuzzy felling after reading.

i definitely prefer madarame's serious stories. i only wish this one had gotten more pages, because as it stands i had to read it twice to even figure out what was going on; the art isn't helpful enough. the plot is crying out for a more in-depth treatment.

but as a oneshot this is fairly good.

I agree with mrs_choco, the story is too complex compared to how many pages long the oneshot is. But it's got something going though. The art is - as always - nice, the plot is interesting and the characters actually have a bit of depth, compared to the length of the story.

Should be a longer story

The plot is good, the characterization is nice ,but the story is too complicated for a oneshot, hence there so much explanation per page. I'm not against complex plots, but they required a certain amount of pages to properly lay down the basis of the story, and the author didn't have those pages.

Complex and Talented Storytelling

Kyou Anata ni Wakare wo Tsugemasu is another example of Madarame Hiro's talent. Not only does she have amazing artistic talent, she also has the ability to create a complex story. In all honesty, I can't summarize the story for you because it'd give away important plot points. lol. Therefore, it's going into spoiler form!

Spoiler (highlight to view)
The story tells of Misato who has his heart badly broken by the man he thought he was dating. In reality, his ex had only seen Misato as a casual sex friend and has ended up falling for another boy. The other boy is Iida, a high school student. To get his revenge, Misato seduces Mei, Iida's childhood friend whom he assumes Iida has feelings for. In the end, Misato ends up falling for Mei only to find that Mei was using Misato to get at Iida as well - but luckily he's fallen for Misato too. So it's not a great ending, but it's an ending for them at least. The best of a worst situation, so to say.

This story is a prime example of how talented Madarame Hiro is. She really understands the complexities of relationships and uses her strong literary talent to create a good piece of work. The best thing about this oneshot is that the mangaka doesn't go out of her way to create simple explanations for her readers. It's left up to you to make your own conclusions. Iida is a perfect example of her unwillingness to feed the storyline to her readers.

After having said all that...Thankfully it's only a oneshot! It would have been ruined if the story were dragged into a multi-chapter saga. It's not my favorite Madarame work, but it's certainly a good read for a contemplative audience.

Lovers of angst and bittersweet endings, read this. >_>; Probably Madarame Hiro's best works so far; no far-fetched plots, no controversial issues, no devil in sheep's clothing.

Only pure messed up love relationship. The execution's pretty awesome, IMO.
