Description
Mika, a high-school student, has no doubts that she is a lesbian, few people around her know that though. She works at a cafe admiring the owner (she only has a thing for older women after all) and visits bars in the gay district. This story presents her life in pieces: from acquiring a surprising friend to helping a married woman discover herself and experiencing disheartening early love. All the while Mika is the confident young adult woman with an impressively mature mind.

Cute short story but nothing felt resolved by the end. Starts off strong but ends up wishy-washy.

The characters are complex, with their own fears, insecurities and personality. The story doesn't just brush over some issues you'd likely have in real life and the characters develop to be more honest to themselves. The plot so far is also interesting, I was just very confused with the 1.1 chapters, from what I can tell the main chapters are Mika's story and then the point something chapters tells the back story of the lady in the cafe, to be honest the way it's interwoven and told not in time order just makes everything really confusing. I would have preferred for them to be separated into two stories. The art is a bit pointy at times but in general gives off an elegant feeling, it's not overly cutsy with huge eyes etc. So far so good.

Edit: I finished the series! It's a bit of a dissatisfying ending but it made it more realistic.

I thought from the description that this was going to be a series of vignettes and the first couple of chapters and extras gave off that feeling a little too (esp. with the time skip/epilogue at the end of the first chapter) but it's not actually, it follows her in high school for the most part.

I've only read a little of Jun's other works (some parts of Koi no Kaori and Love Flicker) but this is probably my favourite of the three.

Also, have we seen Kudou from Love & Piece 3-5 in the main storyline? That confused me a little.

EDIT: Not as great now. I feel that volume 2 loses some of the feeling of originality

I think this is possibly the best shoujo-ai/yuri manga I've ever read. The main character Mika is so mature, open-minded and refreshing, totally unlike all the trope-filled female leads I've seen around in yuri nowadays (cute, ditsy female; calm, cool, dark-haired beauty). The other female lead is also refreshing as well; she's surprisingly open-minded and mature even though she's younger. Both are complex in their own way, and I think this is what makes the manga stand out from most other yuri which have clearly defined, non-deviating character roles (eg. cute role, mature role). Overall, really enjoyable and highly recommended.
