Beautifully peaceful romance...

I like drama in manga, but not all the time. I love this story for the affection and love that is so clear in the main couple, and the beautiful art that highlights it all.

Mitsuki Kako is one of my favourite shoujo mangakas - and I've never found one that comes close to her in the whole beautiful simple romance thing. This is a brilliant example of what she does so well.

Well I'm quite surprised with the good reviews.

It has a very nice shoujo manga artwork. Hot guy, cute girl, yep. They're always lovey dovey and stuff. That part is fun to watch.

But it really bothers me how the development of their relationship is so illogical -_- . I mean how can they fall in love so quickly? They hadn't even gotten to deeply know each other, and then it's more flirting/smooching. Way too much kissing isn't that nice in the story when there isn't much meaning behind it DX

I have not read a shoujo manga in a while that had so litle drama, this made it easier to see how their relationship build bit by bit.....because there was enough drama with falling for somehow who is a somewhat relative. That ending too was just so nice, really this story left no open ended anywhere.

So i've finished reading this! Well, there's nothing bad about this manga. It's very warm and the storyline goes very smoothly. There's a little bit of jealousy here and there but still ended up in a fuzzy situation. Overall, it's a nice read! I do like the art too!

Overrated

This is the first time I'm fooled by the rating system in Baka-Update.

Normally, manga which has a rating as high as this one, 8.4, is sure to be good. But when I started reading, ok, this girl is speaking to herself, oh hey she meets a "cool" guy (or so he is called numerous times in the series) which is ohsotypicalinshoujo, and then he thinks she's cute, then they kiss, them BAM obstacle, she's so weak, he's so "cool" (again) and calmed (how predictable) and in control (ohmygodgetmeoutofhere), and everything that is so UNREALISTIC and TYPICAL... And at the end [SPOILER ALERT] they get married and lived happily ever after. Oh, did I mention he's only 7 years older than her and they hit it off right after she graduated from high school and he's her father's non-related-in-blood brother? *Rolling Eyes*

Even though I finished it myself but still, this manga is overrated OMIGOD! Why peopleconfused?? You 800 something people...

*Crying* I wasted 100mb because of this *Crying* Not worth it!

I do admit that the first chapter - which sets the premise for the whole story - is a little...unrealistic? Apart from the low probablity that the very guy she kisses and falls in love with is her uncle, to fall in love after just one kiss without knowing each other seems a little shallow. However, that being said, I do believe the mangaka did that to prevent the story dragging on. It's refreshing that the manga focuses on what happens after they get together - rather than the process leading up to it - in a very slow, unmelodramatic way while still keeping you rapt. The development between their relationship, the closure the ending gives and the length of this manga - not too long, not too short - all combine to make this a beautiful, light read without any of the usual shoujo heroines and whinnings that go with them

Judge for youself

Ok... People, let me ask you: what do you think a shoujo is? Of course it's a typical, cliché romance story for young girls. And, well, that's what this manga is: a shoujo. Maybe you are just getting a little bit old for this type of story?
I believe a tag called "Un-shoujo" should be created for those awesome mangas that are shoujo but different...

Now, the review.
As stated on some of the other reviews, Ai Hime's plot is not going to make your eyes shine unless this is exactly the kind of story that you love. It goes like this: while trying to find something to do, Mao ends up near a cherry blossoming tree and sees a sleeping stranger there, he wakes up and well...it's love at first sight. However they soon find out that they're actually uncle and niece that are going to live together for a while, due to Mao's parents having to go on a business trip.
Well, since this plot doesnít really win many points for originality (as many other mangas use the forbidden, hidden love concept as well), you may ask yourself whatís so special about it; nothing, really. But the simplicity of how it is shown to us readers and how it allows us to breeze through the pages without having to deal with too many conflicts grants it bonus points, in my opinion. Because sometimes Iím tired of opening a manga book and having a hundred problems thrown into my face, when all I want to read is the cozy moments. But, I also have to admit, the fact that their love story turned out so well accepted by family and so is kind of annoying, since Mao and Jin didnít have to fight for anything.

Moving on to the characters. Nothing special in them, as well. But each of them get their own good points. You have Mao, the innocent 16/17 year old girl whoís used to being lonely and wishes for warmth, and Jin, the uncle that had been adopted into the family and is now taking care of her; those are the main characters and the story really focus the most on them. To speak frankly, I donít see much of a conflict in their love since theyíre not actually related by blood and the age isnít really that far off (6-7 years I think?).
The rest of the cast is not very important. You have the beautiful one-san character as the current boss and former lover of Jin, who supports them and recognizes Mao as Jinís special person because (and this is where I laugh) they slept together, and no, not the kind of sleep where people sweat and pant, sleep as in dreaming and snoring. Personally I believe she was just thrown to the noise to make Mao feel some jealousy. Then you have the perverted childhood friend of Jin who is there to also make Jin jealous, he was my favorite character because in the entire manga I thought he was the kindest. You have Maoís childhood friend who has a crush on her, and Maoís parents, who should have been the biggest problem, but actually easily accepted the relationship.

This is getting big. But I still have to speak about the art. Iíll be quick, I promise.
The art is not anything special. The faces are really well drawn from the front and everything, but the side-view makes you wonder if Mitsuki Kako-sensei was still at the beginning stage when she created this. And there are some pages where the art just makes me stare in horror. However, there are some moments where the expressions can still your breath with how endearing they are.

Well, this manga is nothing special. But it is sweet, cute and somewhat heartwarming so Iíll give it a 7.5. Sorry if it was too long or confusing but I hope I made my point. Oh! And sorry if any grammar doesn't make sense.

This is my all-time favorite manga. The art is beautiful, the story is beautiful, and their relationship makes me sigh (happily. and jealously) =) I'm a harsh critic, and even I give this a 10. I'd give it even higher if it was technologically possible. wink completely recommended.

I don't read a lot of shoujo, and when I do, it's usually a good thing :]
It's so cute I don't know where to start, it just left like a warm and happy feeling with every chapter, made me happy.
Only reason why I gave it a 9 is because I think the relationship started...way too fast. But then again I guess it could happen.

If your looking for something deep, this is not it. They met. They fall in love. There are a few complications but nothing so deep that it causes the sky to fall.
