Giving it a 10 just because I loved it so much

Or well, I loved it so much way back when I used to keep up with it monthly.

Although I would slightly disagree with the poster below me. No, you don't and shouldn't change your person when you're in love, but if it's a good sort of love, it'll bring out parts of you you didn't know existed, broaden your worldview, and sharpen your mind. Love -ought- to change you a little. Also hopefully, if you're in a long-term relationship, you grow up and mellow out. I'd hate to still be the same person I was in secondary school.

That said, though, I do agree with the whole depowermenting independant-heroines-can-no-longer-live-without-a-man shoujo trope. Bleh. Not only is it gross, but it's not even any fun to read about.

As for being strong or being soft, being strong isn't the same as being abrasive. Misaki is abrasive in the beginning of the manga, and I'm pretty sure she's supposed to be transitioning to strong. I haven't read it in awhile and can't speak for how well that's been working out. I do remember getting rather annoyed at all the blushing scenes. I swear there was a solid year when you couldn't go a chapter without several blushing scenes. It got old.

But I'm giving it a 10 for nostalgia's sake.

i read this series a long time ago and enjoyed the antics for a little while until it started to get really redundant and the shoujoness became really apparent and annoying. also both misaki and usui started to annoy me heavily, so dropped.

to the person who's like "OMG GIRLS CHANGE WHEN THEY'RE IN LOVE". uh, no, you don't or shouldn't. if you change your person to be with someone you love, then you will no longer recognize yourself. strong girls getting mushy is such an overused and incorrect shoujo trope, it makes me gag everytime i see it, especially since it's emphasizing such depowerment and treats it like something normal. makes me sick.

@RaeBabeeyx3: actually i have 8D you don't change who you are, whatever makes you YOU to be with someone you love. then you just end up with a flimsy identity dependent on this person who may or may not stay a part of your life. how many girls (and guys) fall apart after having dedicated and invested way too much of themselves in a person who might not be for keeps? never lose sight of who you are in a relationship, kiddos~

I was a huge fan of this series years ago but I don't know why this won't make me feel so excited when a new chapter comes out, like it did before.

Back then the waiting the new chapter almost made me go crazy, but now its more like 'oh, a new chapter came out, I will read it later.'

I guess because I am older now so I prefer differend things but I won't drop this one, yet.

this is a good shoujo

So far, many of the comments have been something along the lines of how this manga is great or how people have lost interest in this manga or how this manga sucks.

Honestly, how many manga's do you know that can cater to everyone's preferences? This manga is good for people who enjoy reading about 'pure' or 'cutesy' love, befitting many other shoujo mangas.

Currently, this manga is no longer about the comedic rituals that most manga couples go through in order to achieve their love, but rather has changed route towards the more dramatic obstacles, both physical and emotion, that will further affirm their commitment towards each other.
It's in a sense lost that cuteness that drew in much of it's audience, however in exchange it's began to develop more story and character depth. That may be the reason people have begun to lose interest, however in and of itself it's a particular good shoujo manga that's been able to draw in readers from more than just a cute romance.

This manga is far from perfect; this manga has been predictable from the start. Probably the most unpredictable aspect was usui changing schools. However, even with it's imperfection in it's storyline, it's reached a point where I've developed and retained a liking to it.

I honestly didn't expect the comedy to disappear as much as it did, but I'm glad it did. It's no longer a shallow manga that relies solely on it's shoujo characteristics, and for someone like me who get's bored with repetition, I enjoy it.

Like I said before, this manga is far from perfect, which is why I rated this an 8/10, bordering on a 7/10. However, this scale is only based on it's pre-school switch arc. I can't accurately assess a manga's worth whilst it's still in production.

I really really really loved this series and thinking back on misaki and usui's relationship still gives me tingles but idk when they got together the magic died. That's why its always hard to pull out a great evolving relationships that keeps getting more serious in a manga, i've seen this also happen with SA. I'm so sad that i don't read this anymore, but i can't bring myself to. Maybe when its completed i'll go back to this and see what happened to the relationship i use to love ;__;

LOVE IT

I adore this series. I don't maybe it is because I can identify with Misa or maybe it is because I love freaking LOVE tsundere. Is this manga for everyone-- no probably not, but it is a great Tsundere/Shoujo title. It has a great romance between the characters that is slow to develop, but amazing to read. The characters are well written with complicated backgrounds and feelings, and that makes the story even better. I will admit some chapters are less interesting than others, but for the most part this manga has a great story line, interesting arcs, and some of my favorite characters of all time. It is one of the few manga that I will drop everything for and read as soon as it is released. (It is also one of the few that I re-read every chapter to make sure I get everything I can from it. ) It is nice to see a Tsundere manga that has a strong character who is not violent towards the main guy character and a guy character with a lot strength and personality to handle the tsundere character.

Lost the love...

I would've rated this a ten when I started reading it because it was one of those amazing mangas that got me really hooked...I'd even read until 3am even though I had class at 9 in the morning or had papers to do when I first started reading a couple of years back.

Looking back, it feels nostalgic and all, it was a really good shoujo that kind of gave off the same feel as SA...then I got bored. I dunno whats wrong with me but remembering how excited I was whenever I clicked to the next page and was like 'OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!!' and fangirl-ing like crazy, I'm seriously asking myself what the heck happened?

It was great at the start and had me on a shoujo high and I couldn't wait to read the latest chapter but then it somehow became a chore to read from chapter forty-something onward. I love Misaki and Usui and all and I'll always remember loving their hilarious romantic development. Usui's possessiveness and Misaki, the strong-willed tsundere...loved it.

And then that was it. I couldn't get myself to love the plot anymore. Cliches kept popping up. Don't get me wrong, I'm okay with cliches since it depends on how the author can use it to his/her advantage and how it is applied, how the characters are worked out. And it's pretty hard to avoid writing a cliche.

Usui is perfect. He's one of the many 'Edward Cullen's in the manga world minus the fangs and general emo-ness. I loved it at first but then it got boring. His only so called "flaw" is his possessiveness, making him even hotter/perfect-er (is that even possible?). Who wouldn't want the perfect dude monopolizing them anyway? His past is sad and has family complications and all that drama...which only adds to his allure I guess while not exactly affecting his perfectness.

One thing that got me reading this manga was 1) art and 2) Misaki's kickass self. I loved that she's so tough and all coz me no like those wimpy ass crybabies you may find in your average shoujo but I have to admit her tsundere-ness started to tick me off after some time. I just keep wondering what if Misaki suddenly became equally as agressive as Usui and then Usui would be the one all flustered, not knowing what to do. That would have been hilarious to see and I would've loved Usui more.

Sigh, even after they got through the whole 'Usui, I like you too' thing with Misaki, that was it. No more development. No more character growth (if there even was other than Misaki accepting her feelings for Usui). Only the usual plot devices trying to come in between their love. Plot devices from Usui's past, if I may add. Was his past just that? Something used for the plot to get going?

Sorry, long review. But for those just starting, this is a GREAT shoujo for you. Don't mind the nitpicking. It has good art and basically good characters and the plot fairs well.

Edit: I plan to reread this as others have recommended. I'm sure I'm gonna love it all over again and I hope it will stay that way and I'll be able to give this a ten.

this manga is one that i recommended to my friends but now im so dissapointed with the latest chapters. at first it's a good opening with tsundere misaki that has strong personality and has no fear among the boys and even she handles to be a council president and i love usui that could make misaki insulted and flirted her with his jokes and how awesome misaki to be cool man and make usui amazed to her. it's sooooo good , even though they have no an exact relationship at least the reader cpuld see how strong their relationship. i was so happy with this manga until usui and misaki started going out. few chapter after vol 7 is just BLEH. kiss here and there all chapters has their kiss moment and what i think is: IS THIS SMUT MANGAconfused I WONDER none and when i thought it's time for misaki to shine (im pretty looking forward for her past that makes her hate men so much) and thisbut then after im waiting so long.. i cant find any hint that will show that misaki's past will be told so i made a conclusion that this manga manga is ONLY oriented to usui, even though misaki is the main character. to be honest, because of that i started to hate this manga that like boasting only usui that's just too perfect that makes it so boring afterward. misaki as the main character is just too tsundere and in newest chapters i am completely annoyed with her who always blushing when she is with usui. i want old misaki come back. i dont want story about usui usui usui anymore. getting tired. im gonna drop this series.

Just have to say it...

I must admit first that i'm from Chile and my english is pretty lame or maybe worst so i'm sorry if i can't explain myself very well. I actually register only because i wanted to comment about this manga because i read almost all the comments and i just felt the need to say something.
I'm a shoujo manga fan, and i have already lost count of how many i have read. I first saw the anime of Kaichou Wa Maid Sama and i just felt in love, from that moment i became obsses of anime/manga shoujo. As i keep reading shoujo mangas i started feel a little disapointed because the female leads were becoming weaker and weaker to the point that i just start heating them. In my opinion Misaki is a female lead that is one of a kind, she has always been independet there were nobody who helped her, she always thought that the only person she need to keep going was her, until the day she met Usui. Usui was the first person who try helping her and become close to her but because of Misaki personality she was very confuse so she always were thinking that he was teasing her. Usui was in love and for that reason he didn't gave up to Misaki, thats why he is the only guy who can really be with Misaki, not because he is handsome or smart or strong only because he didn't give up. I have to admit that i'm sooo tired of the cold, indifferent, mean male lade that i just dont know how makes the female lead to felt in love, maybe Usui is too perfect but is more realistic that Misaki felt in love with him than a cold and mean guy, because she is actually a SMART female lead not like others that have a masochist personality and falls in love with a guy that treats them like sh*t this unreal situation happens in soo many mangas and i just hate it, honestly. Ugh i have the feeling that i'm making a lots of grammar mistakes but i just will keep going anyway. I don't understand the people who finds Misaki annoying, i mean whats annoying about her? i found her soo adorable she is the kind of girl who is not looking falling in love (like most of the girls in shoujo mangas) she have more important things to do but little by little Usui is becoming a very important person to her so is obvious that she blushes a lot because she is not used to open her heart to people and Usui knows that. I don't think that she is weaker when she is with Usui on the contrary i think she tries to be even more strong and independent and so in the few moments when she actually shows her weak and in love side you just feel the need to hug her!!. The last thing to say is that this manga make me laugh so much especially the anime (chibi Usui!!) that my stomach hurt like for a week.
So my conclusion is if you are tired of weak and whinnig girls, of love histories that you just can't buy, of the bad guy/good girl cliche Kaichou Wa Maid Sama maybe is your shoujo manga. smile
