Great setup, plot and character cast

I was completely tricked by the incorrect description of the series- for some reason the description describes what happens BEFORE the setup of the series (so basically.. only chapter 1). What the real setup is:

Seven teens wake up in the cafeteria of their high school. They hear a voice projected telling them that they have only three days to escape the high school. They have to each get a password to escape, and to get a password they have to undertake a dangerous and life-threatening task. To make matters more complicated, they are told they have to use their own supernatural powers, which 5 students already knew they had, but 2 didn't.

If that sounds like that would interest you, then the series is for you. Honestly I loved this series, I love mission-based action with a distinct group of characters and this satisfied me completely. While the main character was admittedly on the side of being the cliche shonen MC type, he had enough groundedness (and the marriage gimmick was fun too) to be likeable. But all the other characters in the group were awesome, each with their own really unusual and unique powers and differing backstories and motivations.

As to the identity of Enigma, I thought it was super obvious all the way at the beginning, and I thought they accidentally gave it away at one point- but I was wrong! The real enigma- the decision was okay, I was fine with it. Some of the details after chapter 42, I feel were solid, could have been improved, but were still satisfying.

The only thing I thought was a really weird decision, like, I've never seen this in a series before,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
was to have no villain at all. Like, no villain. The last scene was literally every single character in the series enjoying themselves at a festival, getting along. There are five characters that did some pretty terrible things mostly off-screen and they made a point to both justify everything and to fix it so it didn't matter anymore. It was just strange in a story with this type of plot to have every character as a good guy at the end...

Overall, I loved this series and I would recommend to anyone.

The Hair Got Better. And So Did the Plot.

Okay, so the main character was COMPLETELY cheesy and obnoxious to begin with. His hair looked like some weird fluffy tentacle fro in some early pages and I nearly stopped reading because the execution and plot were so darned cliche. The random power, the friendzoned childhood friend, the whole "save everyone all the time because I'm just that great!" attitude and incessant pointing while proclaiming things and all in a high school setting... oh, and I hated his polka dot shirt. You get the idea.

And then the author got to the real story and obviously became more comfortable with drawing the characters. His hair, while still poofy-like, laid more naturally on his head and we got some really interesting, rather dark plot twists. At that point it still could have gone in a very cliche direction (and to some extent, there were a couple well-trodden story and character points) but the way it played out was MUCH better than I anticipated. It thoroughly surprised me several times.

It was exciting, creepy, mysterious, suspenseful, and while the main character was still a little annoying at times, his positive attitude was essential in keeping the tone a little lighter. And the other characters really needed a guy like him to break out of their respective shells and develop properly. The side characters all ended up being very interesting and diverse and there was a reason for a lot of the things I thought gimmicky at first. There were still a few holes in the story that I thought were never fully explained but I'm willing to ignore those for a good story with a satisfying ending.

And so here I am, finished with the series a day after starting it because I couldn't really stop reading it. I'd say it's worth giving a chance if you want a good shounen mystery adventure, and don't judge it on the first couple of chapters. Or his green tentacle hair. It gets better.

This... was oddly well paced, with a fitting ending. It's been a while since I've read a manga that feels so complete. Kudos to the author!

When I was reading this as it came out, it seemed like just another one of those 'survival' manga, but it really expands from that, so you should definitely read it until the end!

Cliche AND cheesy. Imagine a scene, a boy with weird hair but really well illustrated standing in a path of sunlight, with an index finger pointing forward fearlessly and bravely, says "I will save everyone!!" I'm not into righteous characters too much.. It's ok.
I find myself rolling my eyes more than just a couple of times ever chapter.
There's nothing significantly alarming abou the plot itself however. Nice mystery, doesn't give too much away. A bit suspenseful, but i wouldnt say its a thriller... Quick read because the mysteries and the puzzles aren't hard to understand.
Anyway, the art is really nice. Clean with just the right amount of roughness. Shounen-esque.
I wouldn't continue it though. The characters aren't pulling me in.

...the first part, after ch 42 it kinda bored me. But the first part kept me on my toes, and I got scared at some parts, since i was reading it at night. I haven't read anything this interesting in a very long time

Its interesting in the beginning. And it gets really good for a while and then it just becomes boring and cliche. I just couldn't get through it. After awhile the plot just becomes convoluted and never ending and it just doesn't work.

But don't let my review stop you. For all I know you could really enjoy it. It was good in the beginning and the early chapters were interesting. So give it a try if you want.

I was a little repelled at the first page, and decided to leave it on hold for 2 weeks, while thinking about not reading it. Really, Haiba's hair kinda stopped me from even going to the second page xD
But then I'm happy that I gave it a chance and a little sad that I didn't do it sooner. This story is gold! It has its share of horror, adventure, mystery, cute love triangle and a nice plot twist at the end, just how I like them. You can't get bored, you don't have time to, and all the characters are well developed and nicely drawn. In the end, I even ended up liking Haiba's hair. If you stumble on it, you HAVE to read it. You can thank me later wink

In all honesty, this manga was a not-so-good read for me. I could tell the author was an amateur. The plot was incoherent and the art was awkward at most times. But I got to read it through the end. I guess this manga had that kind of charm, I'll give it that.

You just need to have a certain kind of taste. It is a bit cliche, but i never found it boring and i couldnt wait to read more. The powers are so strange that they're intriguing, and the characters are pretty well thought out. The ending is a bit weak, but with the type of plot it has, its better for it to end sooner. All in all, its definitely worth the read if you enjoy suspense manga.

Had potential but went downhill

I really liked the manga for the first 20-30 chapters. I found the plot to be really intriguing, thrilling and mysterious. But, eventually everything got all jumbled and dragged out to the point where there were conflicts that were hardly unrelated to the original plot. I'm fairly disappointed with the ending and frankly I skimmed the last 10 chapters just to get to the ending. I would recommend the chapters in the beginning and I wouldn't continue reading after the test.
