Description

Shinomiya is a beautiful college art student who lacks the morals common to most people. After agreeing to be a nude model for Matsuoka, a photography student, he also agrees to sleep with him for money even though he is straight. However, what started as a small taste of the forbidden soon spirals out of control when Shinomiya begins selling his body to other guys as a prostitute in a male brothel. I really loved Tooru in Rules, so it was good to read his story. Though I accept this one as a favorite I can't read it too much! It's sad and makes me cry everytime!

Why'd he have to die?! I read it without noticing the tragedy tag and that page just broke my heart. Matsouka was my saving grace as Tooru sold his body left and right. And then 'BAM!' he dies and I quickly turn back to the title page to see tragedy in the tags. I felt so lost T_T The one time I forget to tick off tragedy while searching for yaoi and I cry like a baby.
The second story is sweet though and I don't regret reading Lovers,Soul.

After seeing the great reviews i was like wow this must be really good. Yea, and it was nice and sad and all but it wasnt all that great. Theres like 3 chapters but only the first one is good but not that good. It didnt feel finished either.

It's been years I had been reading this manga and I still can't get over Matsuoka's death it's too tragic I personally prefer if Tooru was the one who left first. Matsuoka is too perfect. Anyhow I'm glad Tooru finally found a soulmate @ Rules and Hikaru wasn't the one with him. Scene of Tooru in Thailand just made me cry... Totally whipped for Matsuoka imagining him in Thailand before his death. Geez, what a deep impact. :I
Nozaki's story was very sweet, worth reading ^^.
Miyamoto Kano's works are smooth and beautiful. Even when they are not very exciting or original - they don't give me a feeling of worthless time-spending. What's more, her stories and characters are honest and simple (in a good way), and the reader can easily relate to or sympathize with them. She came to be one of my favourite mangakas.
Her art is beautiful.

Miyamoto Kano's works are smooth and beautiful. Even when they are not very exciting or original - they don't give me a feeling of worthless time-spending. What's more, her stories and characters are honest and simple (in a good way), and the reader can easily relate to or sympathize with them. She came to be one of my favourite mangakas.

I didn't like Shinomiya's character very much.
But the story itself was very touching and good. But I would have liked for it to just have more... well more I don't know... desire? Yes, I suppose that's it.

At first I was breezing through this thinking it's just a regular BL manga about a pretty boy, wild in his ways, falling in love for real and they live happily ever after the end. But oh was I so wrong! I read the summary but not the genre nor the comments so when tragedy struck, I was like, No way! That did not just freakin' happen! I'm not exaggerating when I say I had to step back and gather my thoughts before continuing.
I couldn't agree more with the comment below (from blackknight) that you simply don't see the tragedy coming -- it just hits you. It was so artfully and masterfully done that I'm in awe with the author. This story will probably be etched into my mind in a long time. Don't miss this!

being a sucker for happy endings, I hated that Matsuoka died and the budding relationship between him and Tooru is forever gone which just tore my heart out I almost cried.
It's really shallow of me I know but it simply shows how I fell in love with both characters in a span of less than 100 pages. I really felt for them.... Last updated on August 12th, 2011, 6:12pm
This one is so well done that it will continue to stick in my mind for a long time. This is one of the few tragic stories that truly affected me. The way the story led up to the tragedy was very well done to the point that the reader doesn't see it coming. It just hits you. The characters are developed well enough that you get to know and like them. This makes the tragic turn of events hit harder. The story continues to follow Toru as he deals with his feelings and sadness. The second story, about Kai and Nozaki is really cute. This is a well-done friends become lovers story. I recommend this one - definitely a good read.
The whole Lovers and Souls 1 was the best part of whole Rules Universe serie.
I read Rules first and I didn't understand Tooru(I was totaly uninterested by him and though he was exaggerating) but when you read Lovers and souls you will experience everything what happened with tooru in the past and then you can understand why he's always so quit and how he's become like that.
people who like rules should be shure to read this!(also the people who didn't read Rules this is defenitly a must read!)

i absolutely love this MIYAMOTO Kano work. i'm reading this series for the second time. i really recommend people to read every thing in the time line it adds alot of depth to the story (time line as in hydra rules and all the side stories IN ORDER, you can find the time line laid out on hydra)
