literally about kissing

i was first sooo excited to read this manga because the cover art made me gasp aloud.

after reading it through, it was literally just about a thief and an aristocrat who like kissing each other. really nothing more than that.

The pictures were super pretty and romantic, but.. there was little to no character development. a chapter would just be like "okay this happened, so they did this".

though the art is nice, the story is pretty simplistic. nothing made my heart pound like it could have.

I was a little disappointed that it was only 3 chapters long because i think it needed a little bit of character development, but the mangaka did a great job with just 3 chapters. At first i thought it was weird that Jean simply took her in so that he could kiss her since he'd never known her before(not a big fan of love at first sight) but when it explains how he grew up in such a cold society, never shown any affection or compassion and how Lilith,by giving him mouth to mouth, showed him compassion. I kinda get why he took her in and why he wanted to kiss her, even if he knew he'd have to give her up soon. He just wanted to feel that warmth once more before going back to a cold, boring society. But, i also think his a bit of kissing monster which is super funnyXD Then its Lilith's also just a cool girl, she tough, boss of a band of thieves, still has her moral code(no killing bystanders or taking captives to sell, you know that kind thing) and has in general a very strong character. It was a cute read and i recommend it ^^

A Little Disappointing

When I read the description/summary, I was intrigued and thought that this could be a great read. But even though I knew that this was going to be a short and simplified plot I had absolutely no idea how overly simplified everything was. There were so many chances to develop the story that the author did not take. It was really saddening. Even the romance was just like "and then time passed and I started to realize I had feelings for him". There were also unexplored branches of the story and continuity errors (at least once...i mean being hit by an arrow is not the same as being attacked by a bear.) Just overall, it was disappointing and felt pretty rushed. It was still cute and beautifully drawn but....I think you get it.

Surprisingly satisfying.

I'm really startled at all the bad reviews, frankly. I mean, eight people voted 1?! This is not a masterpiece by any means, but it's nowhere near that bad. I actually found it cute and surprisingly satisfying, despite the rather thin plot and characters that needed more development.

The main reason why I'm more lenient than usual with the obvious weakness in pacing and plot is because the first chapter practically screamed "oneshot that was extended due to popularity." It literally reads like it, with the usual semi-vague happy 'conclusion' at the end of the chapter. As such, the best part (of their process of falling in love) was completely rushed - I didn't get a sense of why they fell in love, and the "kissing" theme was clearly a gimmick rather than being an interesting and central part of the story. They're simply kissing maniacs; there's no real reasoning behind it. On its own, the first chapter would've gotten a much lower score.

However, the second and third chapters improves upon the first significantly, and they're the reason that Kiss ni Juuzoku is worth a read. The second chapter expands upon Lilith's feelings and introduces Jean to the thief gang, while the third provides us with further depth to Lilith's character, provides backstory to her crew and wraps up the loose ends. By the end, you understand Lilith so much better than it becomes quite clear why both her gang and Jean is so incredibly loyal to her. I'm still not sure I'm 100% convinced about the reasoning Lilith gave for falling for Jean, but I suppose their actions speak louder than words.

The art is lovely, clean and sharp. If I had to nitpick, I'd point out that there are some instances when the proportions of Jean or Lilith's faces are slightly off, but it's a minor thing. As for the extra story at the end, it was cute, but unremarkable.

Kiss ni Juuzoku had potential, but it's a shame that it seems the author didn't have a chance to develop it as a full length volume from the beginning. Despite doing an admirable job of turning back and building on the characters in the latter chapters, it's never quite the same; there's only so much you can do when the main development at the early stages of their relationship was so rushed. That aside, I still found it a reasonably enjoyable read. For a one volume manga, it's definitely not bad.

i read the reviews, went in expecting nothing except good art and was pleasantly surprised. it's not amazing but the storyline is sound. it's not drivel. it is simple, but that's not a bad thing. it's a light read. enjoy it for what it is and move on.

It would've been better if it was longer to the extent that Jean's reason tot stay with Lilith was further explained or even just his background. I mean sometimes love isn't the only reason for one to give up their whole live of gold platter and all. I would've also liked to see how the whole group accepts him, its just weird that they accept him because of his love for Lilith.. in my opinion it would've been better if that as explained as well. But overall it was a really nice short manga, I would read it again sometime in the future because it is a very very light read. <3
