Maybe just read the one-shot?

The oneshot of this manga (before it was serialized) was fun, funny, unique, and had really cool and clean art. I’d give it a 9!

Then it got serialized.

>.> ehhmn…. Well, anyway, If you’ve read any of the other comments before, you know it became the most predictable, cliché, shojo, school life, childhood promise plot that has been, and is forever doomed to be again, recycled relentlessly in countless manga. But it’s not all bad, I suppose. I’ll focus on the good points, then you can decide for yourself.

I enjoyed the oneshot so much I’m still holding on, and I guess the cliché plot devises have a little bit of draw to them, otherwise they wouldn’t be so popular. I personally would like to see a bit more…unique…ideas. The art is still cool and clean looking, and I truly enjoy the artist style. His/Her humor faces are pretty epic, at points. ^-^ Right now, the direction that the manga has gone is not the rout my first impression of the oneshot implied. The clashing gang/mob clans don’t seem to be addressed other than the threatening glue holding the two main protagonists together in their falsified relationship. If you’re not a fan of ACTION action, then, you’re probably safe, as most violence is our tsundre’s fault or gag violence. (I personally am more privy to ACTION action…) If you like harem relationship drama, they've got that going for them, too. Once again, all the females around our male lead are falling for him, whether they like it or not.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
We’ve also got the secondary character bases covered- childhood friends, a cross-dressing “masculine” female, unrequited love that is unrequitedly returned, a reluctant female companion that “hates” our lead, ect…
Edit: and now a fiancee our male lead didn't know about! How surprising! -_-
Another Edit: and the "little sister" defending her older sister ladies and gentlemen! -_-

It’s not a retched manga, we’ve simply yet to see anything unique to the plot besides the initial oneshot setup. Honestly, read the oneshot, it won’t take long and it’s worth the look. Then you can decide weather you think the manga deserves a look afterwards.

Edit: I'm basically done with this manga. it's caught itself so far in this rut that i'm of the opinion there is no redemption. I catch myself not even reading the scanlations anymore, it's so mindless and predictable.

Cliche, yet oddly lovable.

My title sets it up. This is, as many have mentioned, a "typical romantic comedy manga." In other words, it's trying to pull off every cliche in the book, from the harem triangles to the shoujo melodrama.

But for its good points... it's funny. That's about it. The art is nice as well. Truly, I couldn't imagine anyone reading this manga because of the awesome romantic plot. The draws to this manga are its "readibility" and humor.

With the good points summed up, I'll give the premise of the characters. The male lead doesn't seem to have much of a personality, as it is for most event-driven mangas (which this most definitely is). The female lead, in direct opposition, has a ridiculously exaggerated tsundere personality which may grow on you. The side/main female love interest, Onedera... she's just the "normal, shy girl," who is fairly capable of getting on people's nerves without the excuse of being a tsundere. The other side characters are actually funny though, and balance the... negative aspects of the main characters.

Basically, the characters mean absolutely nothing, except for maybe Kirisaki, the main female. Her personality is actually strong enough to influence the plot, whereas the others are just... blank slates that let things happen. So overall, this manga is about having ridiculous (cliche) things happen and the exaggerated and the admittedly funny things that result from them.

I personally read it when I have time to burn.

Fun cliche

It's cliche but I find myself not hating it. Sure the whole fake lovers thing has been done over and over again, but this was pretty funny. What I like about cliches is that I can enjoy it as it is and everything is expected, so it's a light easy read. No conspiracies to unfold, no betrayal, no weird twists, just straightforward cliche. Good for when you're in a lazy mood. Nothing to complain about the art too. The characters expressions and exaggerations increased the comedy in the situation. Overall I enjoyed it a lot.

For what it's trying to do (comedy) I think it's pretty successful so I gave it a 10/10

Jeez its like reading a book that you've read 5 times over and know whats gonna happen. Other than that fun characters nice story. I liked the one shot better but this is still good, i guess thats why a lot of people say they are disappointed.

Nisekoi... I know a lot of people are mad at this series. A lot of people think, 'WHAT!? THIS CRAP IS GOING TO GO ON BUT DOUBLE ARTS WAS DISCONTINUED?!'
But I think it'll be only fair to rate this series by not judging it from the expectations of Double Arts.

Nisekoi isn't the most original of ideas and is filled with cliches. The one-shot I think was so much better then the actual series. But still, I must say I really like the comedy in Nisekoi, there are several cute and funny moments that makes it hard for me to dislike this series completely.
Also, some people are mad saying the plot of this series is absolutely ridiculous, but c'mon, it's a manga. A shounen manga. If you try readying shounen mangas thinking realistically then there's no point in reading it at all, right?
I 'like' this series, not love it but I like it well enough. Not a 10 or 9 for me but I've been enjoying it so far. It's not the worst series in the world and people shouldn't judge it so harshly. If you want a nice, fun, somewhat cliche series to read, then this would do you good.
Some things I didn't like though was
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the whole locket and lock business and old childhood promise, I find that just... kinda weak and really stupid but oh well~

Also for the art.. Ho ho I was not disappointed! The art was also a reason why I like the series, Naoshi's art has only improved since Double Arts and makes the series easier to read.

Complete Crap

Am I the only one who considered this complete crap. First of all, I hate all of the characters!. Especially the main girl. She is completely unlikable, thick headed and her attitude is unbearable. Don't let me get started on the main guy!! I mean is it really that hard to confess to the girl you like? and whats up with the locket foolishness!! Can anybody keep a promise to a kid they only met ONCE!! years ago??

It's just completly aweful!!!! The oneshot was beautiful and I really did wish he remained with that plot instead of this rubbish!! I really want to drop this but I have never gived up on a manga before, and I'm not gonna start now.

If your looking for a "good"shounen/ romance.... don't read this!!

Update
Maybe I judge this manga a bit to harshly, but I won't take back my words, the plot has gotten a lot better, I suppose, but, its the same. However, I finally took everyone's advice about this manga, and just accept that its all about comedy and keeping its ratings high rather than executing a "real" plot, and I accept that. I've read some comments on different manga sites, and most of them stated that its a "shounen romance", don't expect much from it, but that's just rubbish, because I've read some awsome shounen romance, that actually was worth it! So just saying "its a shounen manga" does not justify why the plot is wayward and terrible.

Also on the side note, I think its safe to say that most people started to read this manga, solely because the oneshot was extraordinary and it gave way for a series with potential.

Well, I see why many people show disappointment to this work. If it was a completely new author in the field, such a work would be commended on many levels. The art is great, and the story is interesting.

But unfortunately, it is not. People always compare it to the oneshot and Komi Naoshi's previous work, and they make valid points. I've just read Double Arts and do agree that there's a lot of originality in there, not quite present in Nisekoi; and the oneshot for Nisekoi is indeed jam-packed with so many laughs and humor that is quite different from the serialized version.

And now I have to rebuke your disappointment with my own view. Nisekoi is pretty much 'Slice of Life' genre, and worse still, it's school life. One can't exactly expect the same things as in Double Arts. Next, it's becoming quite Shoujo when the mangaka spreads out the laughs across the chapters by so much compared to the oneshot. There is definitely disappointment there, because it is close to Shoujo yet not fulfilling the same doki-doki element of Shoujo.

However, I do see potential in the series and enjoy following its releases. I do hope that the plot picks up some momentum after seeing the new development

Childhood friend about to confess......
They just need to move out of that oneshot like storyline asap, and 12 chapters is a good time to do so.

After reading thousands of manga since i started when i was 13, i have to say Double arts by komi is my #1 favorite manga of all time. and yet, this oneshot and its continuation sickens me to read. Where is his original and inventive ideas? where is the action? When i finished reading the oneshot i didnt want to believe it was his work... it seems hes sold out all his beautiful and exciting ideas for a cliche love story....that's been done a million times. Oh, komi naoshi i wish you would come back sad
this new story doesnt hold a candle to your real abilities.

Ugh, where to start... sooo many absurdly idiotic plot devices.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I've never been fond of the childhood promise thing to begin with. I can't imagine the sap who who CARE about something like that. Friends since childhood is fine cause you know you get along etc.

The premise behind the sham itself: If those two bosses can't control their people then they would have been arrested ages ago, and if it was that easy to get them to make truce something else would have worked.(many things like excommunication to members who broke a truce, finger gifts, or making an example by offing one of my own people would easily cool off even the most hot tempered gang... even the unbelievably dumb ones depicted) which leads me to another point-

Yakuza are not even comparable to the gung-ho idiots in this manga. A true yakuza is a refined business man, only one who doesn't mind doing what needs to be done to make a profit. I believe all manga authors who write about the "arbitrary life threatening" yakuza like this should be put in a "prominent house" with copies of their work. Let them wet themselves and go about the day as normal... at least they wouldn't write anymore crap like this.

I could go on, but this series isn't even worth the effort i just wasted, anymore would be giving it too much of my time. -_-;
