Its a boxing manga that gets cut off kind of early do to it being not as popular buts its a nice read if you are bored. That and the love interest actually stays cute and chubby which is rare. 🙂

What the hell happened

It showed great promise early on even though it relied on a few stupid tropes early on. Story had an okay pace, characters had depth and issues they were dealing with and it seemed like it would continue that way even after the timeskip. The timeskip itself introduced interesting trials for our main characters and it hanged in there for some chapters, but then it all went downwards pretty hard and pretty fast.

If I had to pinpoint the moment where I felt the dramatic shift in storytelling and character building, I would choose chapter 68 aptly named "Turning point". Everything after that felt pretty much shallow and bland. Male lead went from being dislikeable, to likeable, to ... nothing. Female lead went from being likeable to being incosequential. Newly introduced characters were meh and older characters were discarded.

Ending was fine even though the title has the "rushed/axed" tag, as I don't believe the manga had anything more to offer. As such, read this only if you are bored and have nothing more interesting to do.

Nice boxing manga.

The only boxing (and boxing-related) manga that I ever read are Katsu! and Rainbow, and both, with different plots and giving me different feelings, are good manga. Buyuden itself is very interesting, because at first I thought the main character would be older, but he is an elementary student!

In sports manga, the main character was usually weak and meet his rivals, which after that turns into his friends. However, although new characters keep appearing in this manga, it is not about their rivalry towards each other. Instead, it is all about the character growth about each individual, so it isn't necessary to keep repeating this "duel between eternal rival" stuff that often happens in manga.

Boxing, just like wrestling and other ring-sports, are usually not interesting at all, but I'm glad to have read this manga. Who knows that such dangerous sports we usually watch in TV can be this interesting? Actually the drama in this manga is not bad too, it relates to life between boxing and boxing in real life.

BUT, that is that. I'm still disappointed with the time skip and last chapters... Why the main heroine stays *** in the end!!

Then again, a manga where the characters experience character growth is the best!

Rushed/Axed is accurate..

This manga had really good potential. I personally think they started to make the main character too powerful. It also felt like the story was all over the place in terms of plot points. I honestly say that it was a great manga about boxing (subtle romance) up until the time skip. I would say read this but don't expect too much from the ending.

Crappy Ending

It was kinda fun until it ended, but that ending itself sure was crappy.
Actually, first time I read that last chapter, I didn't even realize that it was the end (It felt like an ending to an story arc at best) so I just kept waiting for the next chapter wor a couple of months...
If this website didn't say that it was in fact over already, I would just kept waiting.
Now I kinda feel like I just wasted my time...

I will say 5 words about this.

Read Hajime No Ippo Instead.

This entire series is somewhat of a rip off of HNI. I am not saying it sucks Per se, but all i can think of as i read this is how its like a sped up of version of HNI. of course there are plot differences, but a lot of the characters resemble the ones from HNI and even their moves are similar (I understand it is boxing, but after i saw the "Submarine hook" i was convinced.) People may disagree with my having said this, but i stand by my words of both series being good, but HNI being the better read (Unless you want a short story, since HNI is at 1k+ Chapters)

It was decent enough to keep me reading

Honestly though, the 'saving someone from delinquents and bullies' thing is getting annoying. There's a lot of that in this manga. The art is quite good from the start but gets kind of unclear and awkward during fight scenes. The story is kind of flat and doesn't have anything original. No major plot twists. It tries to be intense sometimes but it just stayed like a light read for me. I'll give the author one thing though-
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
i never thought he would have the guts to make the female lead fat. he surprised me with that one
I don't think the story would get better anytime soon but I've always been a fan of sports/martial arts manga so I'll just keep reading. It's a decent enough read while waiting for updates from other manga.

Buyuden - and so it begins another Epic Sports Journey

From the author of "Major" Comes another great series, he really knows how to capture that Heroic essence in his sports manga

the scenario is somewhat similar to his previous manga "Deceased Relative" "Motive for taking interest in that sport" "Romantic Subplot" "Lots and lots Of Character Dump"

overall it's enjoyable!

10/10

Could have been better

I liked it more in the beginning, now it has become boring. It's still ok, but it doesn't go further than that; the main problem is that I don't feel anything towards the characters, and the plot isn' that original. It's good to kill some time.

I was never a fan of boxing. I am still not one, but at least Buyuden makes me a little bit interested about boxing.
The main character isn't your usual wimpy wishy washy shounen loser, he started out annoying and gradually became hilarious and fun to relate to.
The heroine, well, I can say it has been a long time since I felt this very huge urge to hug a manga character. She's deadly adorable.
The other characters are also done nicely, their personalities are interesting in a way.
Well, as soon as you finish reading my post, go to your nearest book store and buy this manga.
Or download, of course.
