I was never a fan of boxing. I am still not one, but at least Buyuden makes me a little bit interested about boxing.
The main character isn't your usual wimpy wishy washy shounen loser, he started out annoying and gradually became hilarious and fun to relate to.
The heroine, well, I can say it has been a long time since I felt this very huge urge to hug a manga character. She's deadly adorable.
The other characters are also done nicely, their personalities are interesting in a way.
Well, as soon as you finish reading my post, go to your nearest book store and buy this manga.
Or download, of course.

Great start

It's not Major, which I actually approve of. That's not to say that Major was bad, but a lot of authors try and rehash the same characters and same story over and over again so their works are constantly compared against each other. There are some elements that are similar in Buyuden to Major, but the main point, the characters, feel completely fresh and new resulting in something that I hope will someday be able to stand at the top with other great sport mangas before it. I disagree that the main female lead is a bitch, and as far as her acting older than what she really is...all I can say to that is that everyone in the 12 year old age group is a bit precocious these days so it doesn't feel too off. The main male lead is very interesting. It's not so much that he's weak (he's a great sports generalist), but he does have tons of room for growth in boxing, and his personality is very interesting as well. Even though I said this was dissimilar enough from Major to be something great in it's own right, people who enjoyed major will probably enjoy Buyuden as well since a lot of the same charm from Major can be found her as well, just will all new characters and a new sport to learn about. The pace of the story feels fast, but the author knows how to make you want more at the end of each chapter. It's not like there is always a massive cliff hanger, but you always have this feeling of "I have to know what happens next."

Good start cute manga

I liked the beginning very much, I think the elemenntary school thing and the plot is cute (I mean i's not something "hyper" like "history's strongest disciple", which is also one of my favourites-I have my own categories hope you understand what I mean). As it progresses it starts to be a bit less interesting but I think it's hard to keep interesting a manga which is just "cute", I hope there won't be an excalation of "baddies" because that would really be pathetic.

Incidentally this manga has made me want to try boxe, I always liked martial arts (only tried taekondo though) but was never inspired by boxe looks like a fun sport but you get hurt a lot and it doesn't seem practical at all. but I agree with mith that the all serious attitude is a bit annoying- just a bit though wink it could also be funny

Buyuden "A Boxing Tale"

Another amazing and exciting work from the author of MAJOR manga - MITSUDA Takuya.
Based on Romance,Sports and Shounen, this sportive manga starts off with excellent character introduction and the roller coaster doesn't go down yet.The chapter from 1st just go on narrating and showing how an arrogant and a proud boy has his pride break down and how he desires to become a boxer. The cover of this series tells us a legendary boxer is going to be born in boring and monotonous Japan.Who's the boxer going to be? The main hero or the Main Heroine?
Let's hope this roller coaster doesn't go down for some time.Enjoy!

Crappy Ending

It was kinda fun until it ended, but that ending itself sure was crappy.
Actually, first time I read that last chapter, I didn't even realize that it was the end (It felt like an ending to an story arc at best) so I just kept waiting for the next chapter wor a couple of months...
If this website didn't say that it was in fact over already, I would just kept waiting.
Now I kinda feel like I just wasted my time...

I think Moka is the best female character i've come about the author doen't rely on typical moe cliché and special effects so much that she sometimes eclipse the main character
is it a coincidence that her name is Kaname (Kaname chidori from FMP) and Moka (Moka from R+V ) two strong female leads ?
Akina also looks like someone out from Teppu (another manga about female boxing)

From the author of "Major" Comes another great series, he really knows how to capture that Heroic essence in his sports manga

the scenario is somewhat similar to his previous manga "Deceased Relative" "Motive for taking interest in that sport" "Romantic Subplot" "Lots and lots Of Character Dump"

overall it's enjoyable!

10/10

To what the guy said below me: How can you judge the manga on just three ch's, come on dude use your head. Great story, just a really refreshing manga(not like most others that are coming out these days)

Looks like there might be a time skip coming soon. Also for the people who only read the beginning read more the main character starts out as a real D1ck but changes in time and becomes a real likable character.

Nice boxing manga.

The only boxing (and boxing-related) manga that I ever read are Katsu! and Rainbow, and both, with different plots and giving me different feelings, are good manga. Buyuden itself is very interesting, because at first I thought the main character would be older, but he is an elementary student!

In sports manga, the main character was usually weak and meet his rivals, which after that turns into his friends. However, although new characters keep appearing in this manga, it is not about their rivalry towards each other. Instead, it is all about the character growth about each individual, so it isn't necessary to keep repeating this "duel between eternal rival" stuff that often happens in manga.

Boxing, just like wrestling and other ring-sports, are usually not interesting at all, but I'm glad to have read this manga. Who knows that such dangerous sports we usually watch in TV can be this interesting? Actually the drama in this manga is not bad too, it relates to life between boxing and boxing in real life.

BUT, that is that. I'm still disappointed with the time skip and last chapters... Why the main heroine stays *** in the end!!

Then again, a manga where the characters experience character growth is the best!

This manga had really good potential. I personally think they started to make the main character too powerful. It also felt like the story was all over the place in terms of plot points. I honestly say that it was a great manga about boxing (subtle romance) up until the time skip. I would say read this but don't expect too much from the ending.
