Description
Haru Okamoto, a teenage girl who adores katana, is just now entering high school. When she was little, she happened upon a katana in her grandparents' house. In their haste to get the blade from her, they agreed that when she was an adult, the katana would be hers. However, to her dismay, they do not agree that a 15-year-old, immature, excitable Haru is an adult! Luckily, she finds another outlet for her love of Japanese swords, the almost-defunct high school Iaido club! As Haru searches for new club members and tries to get over her fear of boys, she will become aware that her affinity for Japanese swords has a deeper source than she could have imagined!

As I am a fan of Minamoto Yuu's artwork and Totsuka Masahiro's writing, it was pretty much a given that I'd look into this. Art wise, it is actually more conservative than what I'm used to seeing from the creator of Asu no Yoichi; no nudity yet, breast sizes are still more or less plausible, and few if any panty shots. As if to compensate, there are a lot more violent blood spraying imagery which fits quite well with the theme.

Story wise, there is little to say except it feels a lot more grounded in reality than Asu no Yoichi but not completely focused on the material world as Bamboo Blade was. There are no ridiculous special attacks so far and there is a consistent stream of info about iaido in each chapter which is particularly fascinating to wiki-holics like myself. There is a spiritual (supernatural?) element in the story which fits with the meditative aspect of the martial art; giving it an interesting contrast to its otherwise normal manga high school comedy atmosphere. I'll definitely keep an eye on this one and will likely rate it higher if the writing remains consistently entertaining.

This manga is hilarious on so many levels. There are several elements of straightfacedness that deliciously interact with the ridiculous gags without going overboard into meaningless and characterless comedy-for-comedy's-sake. Just reading the first six chapters had me in stitches at least two and a half times, and that's only counting the funniest parts. I fell in love at the joke in chapter 2. I didn't particularly care about Asu no Yoichi, but Bamboo Blade was excellent... This may be a dream team author-artist combination.

I really liked her other manga
they have something unique to her, but this one is a step higher maybe explained by the the presence of a writer familiar with Kendo and Aido
I love the part about Aido its shows the awe inspired by the Sword
and in the meantime the ecchi was tonned down and maybe that a goodthing
also the carachter driver humor was good with the introduction of a impossible tragic and cool character and the use of in-jokes and spoofs
