This one generally has everything one could ever wish for in an entertaining, yet serious Josei read.
The art is edgy yet beautiful, the characters evolve and grow visibly (!) older, the story gets more and more serious with enough humor and mature romance and the end promises to leave some space for the reader's imagination.
Everyone is bit too stylish but this is the music business after all.
A very nice read and a good alternative to all the hacking into and tearing out of flesh.

Two days ago my friend said to me: "Yo! You need to read Nana! It's really good manga, sad, but good" (lol, what is the point of saying "sad" to proof splendour of it?). So I wanted to check what it is and I borrowed 1 volume from my friend. Up to 4 volume Nana seemed to be a very interesting story - life, men, dreams, tragedies... But when I read everything what has been scanlated I've just begun to think "Hmmm... Really, what people see in this story?". Especially last chapters which are so dramatic (you can't stop imaging what life is and what for? only to live for desire? and only to be happy all the time?) What people think about it? They are sad because someone is sad too, that want to escape from his/her problems? It's a pointless view of life. If you want to have fun - just read it. But really - you won't find true aspects of life. Only "Why life is so unfair?"

AI Yazawa added so much depth and dimension to the characters that we find it so easy to relate to the series. The story telling is excellent. The narration at the beginning and end, as well as the future flashes adds rich color to the mystery and suspense. For me the most enjoyable aspect was the Takumi x Hachi rrlationship. After that I enjoyed Hachi's personality and the humour she brought to the series. And then Nana and Hachi's friendship is complex and so magical.
This series is very special. Love it!!

I love Ai Yazawa. I love that she is a realist and that she likes to show the good with the bad.
This story sure is a tearjerker but I like with that it isnt all happily ever after and you dont always get what you want. Life happens.
She is also one of my top favorite artists, very consistent and beautiful.
I'm not normally one for tragedies and I even stopped reading the series for awhile because it got to be too much but after awhile I started up again and I couldn't totally remember why I stopped in the first place.
Excellent story, keeps you guessing and it shows you at what lengths true friends will go through for each others happiness and well-beings.

The story is very good. It's deep, bittersweet, and very different and refreshing. I love Ai Yazawa's stylish drawings of the clothes, and the references to music and bands. The art might seem different at first but after you get used to it, you'll like it. And anyways, it doesn't take you away from the story at all.
And psst.... recent chapters.... I cried so much!!! The emotions in this story are really moving. Nana and Hachi's friendship is so touching. But yeah... later chapters get a little depressing and the plot is slow at times... but Nana still holds my interest enough for me to look forward to the next chapter. It's a worthwhile manga, recommended!

Overall, I think Nana was a great read.
But the plot develops SOOOOOO slowly.....
And what's worse is that I am a really impatient person.
So I guess I would say, if you are patient.... you will like this.
If you are like me, and like to have things happen at a rapid pace, you will still enjoy it but you will get slightly annoyed at the slow plot development.

I really like this one, sometimes I get a little confused with all the flashbacks, but it's really a great story. Ai Yazawa has done it again.!
Maybe sometimes it can be a bit to much with all the bad stuff happening, but in the end it's one of the best manga's I have read so far

at first i thought that it was "wow" than i was a bit annoyed that so many bad things occured and continue to occur, but i thought:"it´ll be ok smehow..the´re gonna solve those problems"..and now...wuaaa....i guess i´m gonna drop it for now and wait for the ending ´cause i cannot stand so much sadness, i think that real life is complicated enough (yeah, i am a pessimist...) and manga with tragedy are killin´ me...
but i like the fact that no matter what happens one nana is a great friend to other nana, they never just right away judge one another but always try to be understanding and support each other...it´s a beautiful relationship.
EDIT: Hiatus... Hiatus Now I'm really gonna drop it forever and even if it starts again I'm sure I won't read it.

I love Nana. XD. But I get the feeling that it is starting to drag out, just a bit. It is the same feeling constantly lately. Depression and sadness after each chapter. It would be so sad to see this manga end badly, like, "oh.... this is the end?"
I hope it goes out with a huge POW! If you know what I mean. And a good POW that leaves us thinking, "All those times checking everyday to see if the next chapter was out is all worth it in the end. " =)
