What an addictive, overwrought melodramatic mess this is...

... and shamelessly manipulative, throwing every single contrived plot-twist into the mix; attempted rape, parasuicide, attempted murder, obsessive love, amnesia, assassins, mafiosa, family tragedy, child abuse, half-siblings etc etc. The number of times a main character fell to the floor crying surely exceeded the number of times the heroine was stupid enough to be kidnapped.

The main leads shared a toxic relationship it was a wonder they didn't drown in a vat of tears, mascara and screaming. Really.

Having said that, the art is stunning, the men are stunning and the whole thing a beautifully overcooked tv soap opera that had me hooked. Just don't take it too seriously in terms of reality, plot and human endurance.

And by the way, anyone who thought they had been raped would've had a medical exam so - er - that little misunderstanding would have been cleared up early, although I do admit the emotional backlash would've been just the same.

Kudos to the mangaka who convinced me to swallow this overblown dessert against my intelligence. It was sweet, calorific and satisfying.

Oh yeah, did I say the men were hot? wink

Excellent manhwa.. not what I was expecting.

This story is basically about a run-of-mill cute and perky heroine who gets screwed over by life again and again with the prince... sort of like happy tree friends in a way.

Huge edit. Once I got past some of the over-the-top antics of the villains, I realised that the author has concocted an intense story that blends both realism and cinderella fantasy. And kudos to the author for providing a window into each main character's mind, and making clear why the characters act the way that they do (even if the act itself is very unpleasant). Through doing this, the author has made each and every character (yes, even the villains) sympathetic to me as the reader.

In the end, I think that the author has made clear that there is no 'good' and 'bad' character in this story. Both the so-called villains and the good guys appear to be cut out of the same moral fabric and all are capable of making their fair share of poor decisions. There are many grey areas in human nature, and each person must deal with the consequences of their own actions. I think this is why the manhwa resonates with me so much.

For the above reasons, this manhwa is on my keeper shelf. I highly recommend it. Don't be put off by the soap-opera feel of some of the scenes (even I was at first). Give it a chance at least.

First off..this read isn't exactly for the light hearted....

Characters - (5/10) pretty ok...I don't find anything amazing about them and there weren't many developments throughout the series. It's one of those mangas..where you can only imagine how the characters are like together. If you think of them as seperate people...there's just not much to say about them :\
Spoiler (highlight to view)
the only thing is..all the characters are either annoying or psycho at some point. Some people might like this for the soap opera feel but I prefer light characters....

Plot - (6/10) lots of drama....very ...it slowly becomes all of the worst soap operas mashed into one. Still..it's kind of ok because the two people love each other. The one thing I liked is that the manga shows the darker sides of love...it shows love reflected in every light..not just the cutesy teenager love. That, yes, there are hardships in life after high school.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
except it was a littttttle overkill with all the attempt-rapes and jay attracting all the hot psychos of the european continent..plus she got kidnapped 10 too many times. And they focus on sex a lot..oh well..what can you expect from josei lol...but seriously, half the series is about her virginity -_-

art - (7/10) pretty decent biggrin The guys are really good looking..and the expressions are spot on...especially when the people get violent. The style was pretty awesome, and
Spoiler (highlight to view)
the wedding outfits were sooo gorgeous....
The art will probably do well with most people, it's just not my style.

Overall enjoyment - (7.5/10) mehhh I probably gave it way more because of the right-off-the-bat romance. Their romantic relationship from the first few chapters got me really reading it...if the guy just dragged her around for the entire series I would have never gotten so far. But it was very cute and romantic smile just...the rest of the story was too much for me.

The whole story was captivating at first, but then it got a bit too much *.* that I had to drop it...
It got a bit too crazy and intense, but a lot people liked this manhwa...so I guess intense emotions just weren't my cup of tea.
I do recommend it to people who loves deep and unpredictable manhwas, go ahead and give it a try.

I'm up to volume 3 and is seriously thinking about giving up!!! Did Jay even love Jarte?! Or was it pity?! No clue! And oh, please don't play that "I'm too innocent, I'm not ready for sex yet" crap!!! For $&@# sake, she is 18! If two people genuinely love each other, the passion will naturally leads to sex, it's only normal & healthy!!!
And seriously, over-protective lover + amnesia + gangster rivalconfused?!!! Even Shino Mayu sensei knows not to put all these cliche in one basket!!! Seriously, I got turn off as soon as the corny dialogue btw Marie Claire & Jarte took place by the stairs!!!

The art is good (though the male characters are too similar to the females for my taste!), but it's really not worth the time!!! And it took me SO long to track down all the volumes too!!! NOT HAPPY!

I was abit skeptical about reading this manga, because of those bad reviews.
But after reading it, I don't find it bad at all!
Definitely one of the best romance manhwa I've ever seen.
This manhwa is about a series of bad luck, misunderstandings and obsessive love.
Very nice to read! Very dramatic! J is just so sweet to her~~ <3
I don't recommend you to skip any chapters in between because you would be missing out a lot.

On a side note, I've always detested manhwas, because their drawings are simply.. not my taste.
This is one of the few manhwas which I really like! It's beautiful.

You have to read it!

When I first read this story, I was swept away. Rereading has revealed a major fault in the plot, but the story is done well enough that it's almost hidden. But the last time I did read it, I found myself thinking "Really?" at the endless stream of previously unrelated guys who for their own reasons wanted to break up the hero and heroine. As for the two protagonists, Wann excels at giving tortured heroes and Jarte is no exception. What really sets this series apart from her others are the psychologies of her other characters. Not just Jarte, but Jay and even the main antagonist find themselves mentally tortured and brought face-to-face with their own darkest fears.
One of the best parts about reading anything by Wann is the art. Clean, graceful lines, breathtaking illustrations, and an attention to detail that more than outweigh the occasional awkward pose.

the best manwha for me so far

this is the best manwha I've ever read so far. Before, my perception about manwha are like only good on drawings but the story is not that moving. I second SAVER anyways. I like the murdering, kidnapping, obsession, stuff here (i must be a manic)...I've been always looking for this type of story, and now I've already found it. Violence and the melancholy of the prince in the story is the one who's pulling the attention, . It sure has a great story and same with the graphics that are oh so moving. But the only thing I don't like here is when all the guys are falling in love with Jay, because it seems that the story is only siding with Jay, how about the prince? Is her role only to drive the prince mad? But I love it because in this story I saw Haou Airen and Mars (mangas i like that has the same genres).

Anyways,,,for those who rants about the characters being psychotic...please look at the genres...it says "psychological" don't expect that the characters/events would be normal, and the story won't depend on what the fans prefers... that's why it has twists to keep the suspense. i'M NOT saying that this manwha is perfect..because there are some parts that i find annoying,,even so, please consider the genres to understand the story.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
There are some mangas where the reaction varies from intense HATE to intense LOVE. Well, this is one of those mangas. For me though, it was just simply ah-mazingggg.
Lots of girls dream about guys who will just sweep you off your feet and protect you from and danger. But, in reality, it sometimes always isn't just "happily ever after". This manhwa showed that there's gonna be lots of bumpy roads and mistakes. Sometimes Jarte was too possessive and really couldn't protect Jay too well. But sometimes, Jay was the stupid one and misinterpreted things, like what led her to commit suicide (even though she failed).
It showed intense character depth, like how life's not all sugar and rainbows. There's lots of dark, twisted roads and sides to humans that even you may not know about, not until an event triggers it. It made me feel a large range of emotions. One moment elated, the next dark and sinister. And they were so vivid, too!
What really got me from this manhwa, though, was something Jay had said:
"When I fight, regret what I've done, or apologize...It'll have to be with him. With him, I'll feel pain. With him, I'll laugh...Just like that, I'll share the love we have with him, as he will with me. I'm going to be happy together with HIM."
I read that line and I cried, I did. It was just so heart-wrenchingly touching! The author wrote that love isn't perfect, that it's about the times you spend together and how you feel about each other. This is, so far, my favorite read, both manga, manhwa, or book. :)
