Description
The story takes place in an era similar to that of ancient Rome in a country called Chronos. It follows a group known as the Temple Mercenaries. In particular, the manhwa is about Ares, Michael and Baroona, three young warriors with mysterious pasts and surpassing skills...

The manhwa is notable for its subtle use of anachronistic elements (Ares' shoes are similar to that of classic Adidas), as well as very dynamic and fluid action sequences.

Perfect

Now THIS is a perfect manga. I love the plot, the characters, and the art. I admire how the manhwaga doesn't forget about any of the characters, giving each of them a definite ending. The manhwaga has an eye for detail so all the questions I ask about are answered by the end of the manhwa. I adore the characters and their growth. The manhwaga skillfully portrays emotion and focuses enough on how events affect the characters. I thought each character was fully developed and I liked seeing how each on matured. The story was fun and always interesting. I never got bored reading it. There's enough of everything smile And I actually like this type of artwork. I couldn't ask for more. All my expectations were met by Ares. Although it's not a classic like Rurouni Kenshin, I will dare to say that Ares is on the same level.

The art is very unique, and might take some getting used to. The story is also told in a way that most manga/manhwa aren't—it's more serious and dark than any shounen manga I've read. The characters are really this storie's selling point. Each one is unique and relatable. The author captures human behavior brilliantly.

this was a great manga! it portrayed war really well, had great emotional moments, a whole casts of good characters so it was easy to get into it even if you don't love the main character. I really liked how both "good" and "evil" people were characterized, so even when villains died, i was sad
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
like when esteban's backstory was given right after he and danny died, or when michael killed cygnus
. For a shounen manga, it didn't stray away from violence killing, and didn't make the main characters heroes. If you like plot/character heavy, more realistic mangas read this!

How could anyone like this?

I have no idea why this manhwa is as popular as it is. I read it up to and including v16, hoping for it to get better, but instead it got worse, and I finally stopped at that point. The manhwa is supposed to be about war - imagine a less dark Berserk without the supernatural (which is both okay) but also without anything making sense (which is bad).
Among the many faults of this manhwa are:
- bad/inconsistent art - there are some good moments, but most of it is at most mediocre
- impossible/fantasy physics - there's no magic in this manhwa, yet Baroona has a weapon that cannot, would not ever work; many jumping acrobatics are similarly stupid, too
- military "tactics" - this is a story about a number of countries continually at war with each other, yet none of their bloddy tactics make sense whatsoever
- similarly, several huge battles start with commanders of both sides asking to "let our strongest soldiers fight" in a duel - _why_ make a manhwa about war if you make armies meaningless?
- and yet again, _why_ make a manhwa about war and big battles if there are one-man armies?
- action sequences not involving the main characters are all uninteresting, pointless filler
- immature, stupid side characters - essentially, all normal male soldiers in this story will boast constantly and start fights whenever a chance presents itself; none of them seems to have ever heard of military discipline or human decency
- again, why put magic battle pills in a manhwa that was, up to that point, "realistic", i.e. featured no magic?

And a few bigger issues:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
- The whole girlfriend dynamic is incredibly juvenile. In one part, Ares brings his girlfriend _with him_ during a siege...wtf? But more importantly, while Ares usually just kills everybody he fights with, he decides to spare someone for the arbitrary reason of them being both strong and having a girlfriend, too. Hint: Most of the other people you killed, Ares, would have had similar backstories if the author had bothered writing them. Ares has totally inconsistent morals due to things like this.
- inconsistent characterizations: Mikael makes no sense as a character: If he is there just to learn about Chronos and to invade it in the future, why make friends there? That's absurd.
- Chronos "patriotism": There are several countries in the world of Ares, but we are somehow supposed to be happy when Chronos wins, and sad if Chronos loses. But there doesn't seem to be any reason to care about Chronos specifically, other than that it's the main character's homeland.
- My most important criticism: After Mikael betrays Ares, the author _HAD_ to invent a magic reason for Ares not to die. That was the point at which I decided the story was dead to me: Mikael defeats Ares (in a prolonged and nonsensical sequence), then listens to some of his subordinates who suggest to "feed him to the birds". And then Ares gets saved by the weakest mercenary in existence who only seems to exist in the whole manhwa for this specific event...

LOVEEEED IT! And i don't say that for many mangas. The art is a little sloppy but it's not as bad as everyone says it is. The characters are amazing and you really feel for them. This manga really left an impression on me.

Quirky Art, but Overall Amazing

This manhwa has a rather unusual art style, which may put some off. If you can get used to the art, and even enjoy it, then you will find a story with a rich plot, full of emotion, deceit, and wartime strategies. The battle scenes are truly epic, and many of the soldiers are introduced to the reader on a personal level, bringing these battles to a level accessible by anyone. The characters may seem undeveloped at first, but become well fleshed-out as the story progresses. This is an amazing story.

If your looking for a manhwa/manga that is unique and is filled with adventure, action, and bromance, you need to pick this up. Trust me I've read One Piece, and Berserk, I know what I'm talking about.

This was so coool! For a manga with a Roman theme to it, I kind of pictured the wars like that but really Ryu Keum Cheol did an amazing job with all the plots and all those to die for moments.

Mikael's death and his treasures was one of the best moments :'
People say the art is bad because it looks sketchy or whatever, but I really like the art it makes Ares, Baroona, and Mikael look adorable...even though their killling people. lol Ares became the commander anyways. I really like his perrsonality throughtouthte whole series, goofy but serious at the crucial times. Barooon was just the cool guy, like how Mikael was in the beginning. Anywaysss, this was aweeeesome and def recommendation biggrin
