i agree with what KLGChaos said, after chapter 9 when the overpowered rival appeared having an even more powerful eyesight than the protagonist and on top of that the fisical strenght and agility, i stopped reading the manga, and as i guessed after reading a few comments of the lastest chapters i knew that all that i thought it was going to happen happened. the autor need to change the story, it will bore people if they knew what was going to happen
Eyesight is very useful in kendo

how is eyesight not useful in kendo, clearly you guys have not thought about it at all. The key to kurogane's eyesight is that he is able to analyze and judge things at a rate much faster than normal eyes which allows him to react faster to them, well if he had the endurance anyway. Reaction time has everything to do with kendo which is just about dodging your opponents moves and moving fast enough to react with an attack.
Started good, but became really predictable

As my title says, the story started out with a lot of potential. However, it quickly became boring when an overpowered character was introduced in chapter 9. Followed closely by a big build-up to their match, the whole thing fell flat. Why? Because as soon as the guy was introduced, most readers knew exactly how it was going to play out. 10 chapters later, it went exactly as predicted.
The series suffers from being an extremely generic WSJ manga and it's never fun when you already know what's going to happen 2 months in advance. It still has potential to pick itself up, but the way it's going so far hasn't really endeared me to keep following it. Everything it has done, has been done 1000 times before in the exact same pattern.
For me, Sayuri was the only real thing keeping the manga afloat, but her gimmick will get old fast-- because that's all she is. A gimmick.

and feeling just fine until fifth. and start getting annoyed afterwards. I'm kinda guy who despise easily guessed pattern. and as this manga doesn't deviate so much from jump staple formula...,
indeed its flaw to use eyesight as killer point. but honestly, i'm not so sure myself. I don't have such photographic eyesight. nor high-spec dynamic one. so for now, i will just enjoy the ride.

Having good eyesight has absolutely nothing to do with Kendo and it absolutely kills me that the main characters eyesight is what's causing him to be good at it.
But if you can get over this annoying detail. then it is an okay/good read
nothing special though

I agree that I don't really understand what really really good eyesight will do for you in kendo. Maybe if his talent was just simply paying attention to small details or something... Also, I enjoyed the manga a bit all the way until the funky looking characters were added (the kid with the giant lollipop that looks like a meth head)
Something doesnt feel right about the plot

Is it just me or makes no sense to think that by having a "great eyesight" you have a talent/skill useful for kendo? I would understand it if were "great reaction time" or if kendo were a long range sport, but its not. Giving it a 4 just for that.

The artwork is decent, but the story is so-so, main character save the heroine and has someone training him to become stronger.Well, i can't said it bad or good since it still chapter 9.The furture outcome is depend on the author and artist.

Muppet Sayuri is adorable

So far this plays by the the numbers. Weak guy finds a mentor. Mentor designates wimp as the inheritor of the mentor's martial arts discipline. Training and fighting ensues. The wimp goes emo once in a while so the mentor smacks him around to set him straight.
The art is pretty good and as another poster said, muppet Sayuri is adorable. In many ways, she carries the story since she is there to do to the protagonist what everybody would want to do to the wimp, beat him over the head until he grows a spine. For that alone this is worth a look.

This kind of reminds me of Hikaru no Go. We'll see if this will just be a straight shonen or something more. I would like to see more character development. The characters right now seems very stock. We have the extremely talented but flawed enough to set back progress protagonist, the female interest, and a rival that is better than the protagonist but still feels that he has to catch up (similar to Hikaru).
