Kodansha released 4 volumes of this as a bilingual English/Japanese Manga.
Gorgeous story & art, but the translation is sometimes too literal, or too brief. A complete lack of translator's notes may be a problem for non-native readers who are not familiar with Japanese culture & references.
Unfortunately out of print. I wish that Kodansha would let Del Rey translate & release this properly.....
EDIT: WRT the previous comment. Keep in mind Genji Monogatari was originally written during the Heian period, almost 1000 years ago.
The characters' motivations will not necessarily correspond with current day (Western) moral values.

I read this title in a little library in a small town in Japan. The books were really big in size (much bigger than normal tankou or bunko), the artwork was gorgeous, the story telling is fine just like all Yamato-sensei's works perhaps more. It's just I couldn't enjoy or really appreciate it because no matter what I couldn't see a somewhat tragic love story of one man with a dozen of women as something romantic. I wonder what I would think of it if I re-read it again now (when I'm already more errmm open-minded, ahem. Still I don't like Genji, though). Anyway for now I won't give a rating because this manga simply doesn't deserve a low or even mild rating, IMO.

This manga is somewhat really degrading women. I was like...OMG! A 40 y.o guy married a 13-14 y.o girl? This is just too much....Tho I know that this is history...but it's really...gah...I want to kick that Genji's ball! ^__^
