I haven't read the prequel, so I have no idea what that's about, but I must say that I love Reiichirou, he's not perfect. Far from it. He's too blunt, too naive, too clueless, too unobservant, in fact, he's a whole list of too many other things that it'll take me ages to put everything down. Too pretty for one, it's enough to make a girl jealous. But that said, he's also very, terribly endearing, that's in my opinion anyway.

I like his personality quirks, I like that's he's truthful and sincere about everything, it's rather rare in this day and age. I can even extend my favour to his stupid innocence as well, it makes him rather refreshing coupled with that tactless wit of his. In all accounts, he's probably not the usual uke, he's not bright, cheerful and child-like, neither is he stand-offish and stubborn and energetic, and he's not sweet and demure either. So in some ways, his personality might not be for general consumption, but for a select group of people with particular tastes, which well, clearly includes me.

As for Jinnai, he's more typical; domineering, strong alpha male type, but not quite manipulative. He's the lighter type of seme in my opinion, think Hasunobe from Bitter by Minami Haruka, not Asami in the Finder series by Yamane Ayano. The problem with the generally good seme Jinnai is, is the fact that he's insecure.

Of course, one might find that sweet and lovely, but in my book, semes are to uphold the rules in How To Be An Alpha Male 101, and be absolutely confident in their fatal charms. So this is clearly about preferences, I happen to favour scheming, manipulative semes like Asami (of course, I do still like the lighter semes), but another person may enjoy the gentle, understanding semes. In any case, this series would still come highly reccomended by myself, and on another note, I do believe I dislike Tsukasa.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I read this before the prequal and the amount Rei seems to have suffered from the prequal makes me really NOT want to read it. I mean, i've read most of senseis work 'cos i love her works to bits but really, i dont want to see the pure Rei being the apparently mean one. Despite popular opinion, Reis charecter felt so real to me but Jinnais charecter was even more so. Like in the begining when he was feeling regret at also hurting Rei's pure heart. The whole time i just thought 'Poor Rei' as Jinnai made him so amazing through his eyes.

Despite being a manga charecter in a Yaoi, i well and truly love Rei and throughout i emphasised with his feelings and his naiveness is rapturing.
Yet, i also understand why Jinnai kind of lost it in the second volume. In the begining he was cocky, but then he grew more insecure due to Rei's passive attitude. Thats why he only go comfort when Rei wa possesive and jealous even though it only angered Rei when Jinnai was jealous over him.
However, i did get momentarily annoyed when Jinnai sees Rei outside the hotel with the girl and he's all gettin jealous and then hes like ' there really is nothing im guilty off' an dim like, DUDE youw ere just in the lift getting a massive confession HELLO and he kissed you on the top of your head ¬_¬ and so rei has every right to be in pain after all hes doin is escorting some clingy girl home ¬___¬

However, most relationships are irrational and i felt the argument afterwards was very realistic because most couples do have fights that have so much fuel and anger (not much rape lol...well i dont think?)

Anyway, i love this story and the charecter progression in it and its my fave from this sensei <3 followed closely by Bukiyou na silent and then Tyrant :D

well, I dont know why many ppl dislike it, IMO it's my second fave series by Takanaga Hinako (Im not a fan of her art btw, but still I read her works), first being Bukiyouna Silent. I like it faaarrr better than the prequel Kimi ga Koi ni Ochiru (which im definitely not a fan of), and even like it better than Koisuru Boukun (Tyrant).
Ok maybe the seme have some moments when he's not likeable, but unlike in Tyrant , Hinako sensei didnt extend that period too long that it's becoming unbearable.

As for comparing this manga and real life, first, you're already ridiculous to do so since it's manga after all. Second, even if you insist to do so, I cant understand why it's not believable at all. Love in workplace, what's so unreal about that? Clingy partner, so-called abusive, unbalance relationships, that end as either happy or sad, clueless adults, Omiai (arranged married), THEY EXIST, ppl.
Ppl like Reichirou do exist, (unless you havent socialize with enough variety of ppl in your life), it's not that unrealistic that he didnt know gay sex at the beginning. Many grown-ups men didnt, and I've met those poor souls too often in my life.

I wont say it's that GREAT either, but it's not that bad that it deserves so much bashings. It's one of your "enjoyable" manga, with little but enough rollercoaster of emotion, and sweet and simple plot.Just go read this and decide yourself.

Very disappointed in this one. I read the prequel and was hoping Reichirou will find his love but I just didn't feel any love connection with him being with Jinnai. Reichirou is made to be so naive and clueless and as a uke too. He looked so cool when doing archery, I just wished there was more to this character.

I was already not sure about this manga (because of the two MC personages -seriously in what era's Reiichirou live ?!?! Add to that the detestable personality of Jinnai - and the first sex scene with penetration that's clearly more than just Dubcon) but the last straw was when Jinnai thought : 'The good thing about Reiichirou is that he is obedient'. on the Volume2, chapitre7, page50. Too much thing don't work with that sentence, I just can't pass over that. Your lover's not suppose to 'listen' you, it's touch too close of a abusive relation (with the accumulation of their mutual past) for my liking. I do not completely hate it, the art's too much pretty for that but I did not like the story.

I was extremely fond of Bukiyou no Silence, so I decided to give this series by the same author a try. Despite the beautiful art, the story is not up to par, and the characters are frustrating.
The uke, sheltered and protected, not really understanding sexual attraction, was practically tricked into having a relationship with the seme. Throughout the series, the uke remains obtuse, incredibly naive and just completely ignorant of the seme's feeling. He can't recognize or fend off any advances, and end up leading people on, frustrating both the seme and me as a reader.
The seme is clingy, manipulative and controlling. He is constantly paranoid that the Reiichiro is cheating on him, leading other people on. He practically orders the uke to treat certain people differently.
There is nothing appealing about the relationship being portrayed here. It's the kind of relationship that no one in real life would want - having a clingy, needy, insecure, commanding partner, which pretty much sums up Jinnai's character. This entire story is not sweet, or cute, or anything special. The two men remain the same, never fixing or improving on their flaws throughout the whole thing, despite them being so aware of it, whether it's jealousy or insecurity. To me, they were so incompatible, and it just baffles me that the mangaka takes this entire story to 16 chapters when it should have ended after chapter 4.

I totally agree that they vilified Reiichirou wayyyyyy too much in the story of his younger brother. I am still glad he didn't end up together with Haru, but they really did make him seem a lot more competitive and cutthroat compared to this sweet Reiichirou. He is blunt and tactless, but not devious or underhanded as he comes across in kimi ga koi ni ochiru. Also, in this spin off, Reiichirou and Jinnai are both H-O-T !!! As most people, I am sure, I often dislike one or the other lover... but Reiichirou are Jinnai are both so cute in their own ways.. (and hot ::cough)

I took off half a point cuz Jinnai does get a little nutso late in the story...

this manga is one of the first I've read and it still remains one of my top favs (now that I've come across tons)... its first appeal is the characters, Rei especially, he's socially inept (much like Satorou in Awkward Silent, but is less submissive n more vocal), Jinnai would at first seem like an average forceful seme but with a closer look, u can see the small qualities like his sarcasm, irritability n random surge of playfulness that make him seem realistic enough.
I personally love the 'post' phase where the characters are still confused, but work to maintain n develop their relationship, so the bickering back and forth and their possiveness for one another is a win for me
with that said, the main reason I prefer this over the prequel is 'there're more smut' no im jk, (tho i won't deny that it is a factor)... Tanakaga Hinako is one of those mangakas that can deliver the characters' feelings through the manga' frames perfectly, the enamor gazes, the brief touches, the tender kisses and the sweet embraces... it's indescribable, but somehow Kimi ga Koi ni Oboreru just seems to capture those moments for successfully

ps: (spoiler) what I find funny is the fact that even tho Tsukasa's dream is to have sex with Haru in his hakama, his brother was the one who did it first... n right in their house's dojo nonetheless

Just finished reading the entirety of the 3 volumes (it ends at 3 volumes??) and I have to say this is so much better than Kimi ga koi ni ochiru!!

I love Reiichirou, Jinnai and Kijima. They were all interesting and contrasting characters and there was character development, unlike in Ochiru where Haru just annoyed the hell out of me and Tsubasa was this... childish kid.

I don't think the omiai is a cliche at all... Reiichirou is the son of the company president! Such things are commonplace. And Reiichirou isn't some "clueless uke". It's just his personality. He's straightforward and doesn't quite know the appropriate actions to certain situations... (it's called 'kuuki yomenai' in Japanese) which is quite comical at times, and hurtful to Jinnai at others. C'mon, we all know people like that!

Anyway, Kijima is a really good guy, I hope Takanaga-sensei creates another sequel for him. smile
