Amazing Series Creation and Character development.
by drawnfreak

Rating: 10.0  / 10.0
I finished this series awhile ago when I bought the final volume by Yen Press. The ending was perfect, realistic, and showcased the character development well. Kum Ji was loud and angry in the first volume, a blind fangirl, then a confused teenager who loved her bad. By the end, she sits between Jin and her man of choice and practically forgot about her idol. Go back a few volumes ago, when she is licking up spilled beverage off her idol. Big change. Her idol changes as well. He gives advice to his junior, E Wan, from Yo-i, saying he'd wish for death on the stage, we get glimps of his dallying with women, and frivolousness. But in the last volume, he scolds the same junior, E Wan, for bringing a woman, Kum Ji, into his home. Toeatds the end, he is more sentimental and thinks more about his career and what he wants to do with it. His group, DDL, is somewhat behind him just as Kum Ji and pals are disillioned from teenage, blind and worshipping, fandom. Reconcilling that idols have lives, desires, and use the bathroom like everyone else; and minus the frenzy of hormones and angst, finally puts her love of DDL on the backburner. Her guy is much funnier to be with, as both E Wan and E Soh change into mature men as well. Putting away her posters, useless stickers, and other memories, she thinks of her time with Yo-i as almost like a crazy dream. A bad car accident jolts her back awake and the members return to her side.....one.member.at.a.time. Unlike most manhwas, there is no exaggerated boy fight. Though, there are fights, and they are done well in the sense of acting their age. E Soh's childish, romantic, and playful additude is still there. So is E Wan's ill tempered, thoughtful, and man of little words demeaner. Most of these are lightened and overpowered by new and more attractive behaviors. Barbie, one of the main atagonists of the series, is dealt with, though I have mixed feeling about it. The other Yo-i members remained sadly unexplored and sometimes were comic relief. Yea, it wasn't a perfect series. But this is probably as perfect as you are going to find in any manhwa shoujo series. Most who read the series through and through have told me they felt the same thing I did: I cared less about who she chose as her man toward the end and justed wanted Kum Ji to be happy. Chocolat is more or less character diven with believable idols, the obsessed girl, entitled fans, teen angst, teenage love, and the realism of aging. For this type of story, there is no better praise than treating the MC with the regard of a real person. Afterall, you would just want them to be healthy and happy. ---

Higly recommend. 10/10.

PS. I am saving up to buy the entire series by next year. It's one of the rare few I do not mind investing in. 8 volumes in the USA.

I found thus boring .. I found the art to be a little bit bland which list my interest but I still continued but as I got more in to it I just found my self scheming through .. it was boring , and the female lead was nothing ..stopped reading properly at vol 4 and stopped all together at vol 6

Series finally to be completed in USA

10/16/2012 Update! For US fans, Yen Press will release the last 3 volumes in one omnibus volume 8 on December 11, 2012.

According to Yen Press (US publisher of Chocolat), they have this to say about the series at the very bottom of the page. "Don’t worry, the boys of Yo-I haven’t broken up, but the band is on a brief hiatus. As soon as we hear word of their big comeback, we will let you know! In the meantime, check out JiSang Shin and Geo’s latest, Very! Very! Sweet!;

So does that mean the authors will continue the story and its only on hiatus or does that mean US audience will get volume 8?

Rating 8 for being DISCONTINUED.

Fantastic plot. Fantastic character development. AND THEN IT GOT DISCONTINUED?! I own volumes 1-7 and I would have bought 8 (raw) if I hadn't known it was stopped. Tsk. Not happy.

ANYWAYS:
The guys are totally good looking. They have charm. They look quite girly. One guy who have fallen for the girl looks like a typical uke. (Short, cute, touchy feely, blond hair, cute clothes, totally feminine.) The other guy named E-Wan who have fallen for the main character isthe typical seme. (Tall, makes advances, dark past, tortured soul, etc.)
Wonder why I'm using yaoi terms?
Because frankly, there are no other ways to express the 2 guys.

yknow this manga is really promising. i like how things aren't going the way i expected them to be. i have the feeling at the very first chapter that i would like e-soh to be together with kum-ji till the end. cuz man they're both hilarious and I really love this kind of love story.... yet little did i know, someone, who i wasn't really expecting to, came into the picture..... and my perception about e-soh ending up with kum ju changed 180 degrees. i have the feeling that this new guy has the potential to be the "right" guy for kum ji. hehehehhe

and yknow what as much as i fell in love with this series, i wouldn't bother spending bucks on this. Why? Why bother supporting it when the manhwaga left its fans' hanging? im really sad to find out that the manhwaga dropped this series. i rarely buy manhwa so I was really planning to puchase it but the fact that its dropped and i wont see any futher progress of the couple i'm rooting for, its just not worth to spend the money on. -_______- the manhwa has gone wayyy to far (8 volumes(?)) for it to be dropped. she could have had the worst rushed ending ever than leaving it hanging.~~~~ really, such a waste. i might not know the reason why she dropped it but really a waste... ~~~~~

i give it 9 cuz I love the story very much!

it takes a different road from your typical shoujo manga wherein the girl doesn't get the guy she really wants but got 2 hotties in her trail but she doesn't really care.. im still on volume 4 and the story takes on a different twist, until now i have no clue on who she's going to end up with but most definitely it won't be Jin... the art is good and it's quite funny... if you're looking for a good manhwa then you should try this.
