This manga didn't leave a big impression on me, like, nothing special. Its story is PURELY about the evolution of the main girl on her carreer as a cook. She has a good and cheerful personality and she - SLOWLY - makes good progresses in her charachter. But I warn you, it's story's pace is REEEAALLY SLOW! I liked how the author explained the background of each charachter, explaining the reason why each of them had that specific personality/trauma.
But then, besides the slow pace of the story, the romance in it just didin't feel right. Oda-san is way too cold and mean. I didn't feel he loved Momoe-chan that much. I was cheering for her to end up with Takahashi-san, which is way more kind and caring. There weren't any parts which made my heart race or made me feel really interested. I was expecting a more involving romance in the story, but unfortunately I felt like it was cold and rushed.

Romance manga often suffers from having heroines that are either extreme damsels in distress or extreme martyrs. Momoe is neither, and she elevates the series by being a fairly realistic and likable girl. While Oishii Kankei is not romance heavy, there's still a lot of love and passion (though most of this is directed towards food). There are a few cliches (male romantic interest with a troubled past), but they don't feel forced or overdone. All in all, Oishii Kankei is definitely worth a look.

It's been a while since I'd read a manga this good, it's been a while since I'd read a whole series and stayed up till the early hour engrossed in what would happen totally unable to stop reading! This series really appealed to me, the girl is around my age and she so admirable because she is strong and passionate. I never found her to be annoying she seemed like some one you'd meet in real life and I'd love to be friends with her. The pace of the manga can be slow and it probably stretched a few too many volumes but the manga-ka was able to give all the characters growth they needed and you sensed that everything was taking place over a long period of time. The romance is really good but it is not the main feature of the manga because the manga is really about people, their problems and the gifts they possess. Like all the previous reviewers the ending is a little rushed (and some aspects a little unbelievable) but not only is the ending rushed it ends very abruptly with no closure and no future scene. The fabulous WingtipCafe staff though provided us with their vision of the future (and do read it I agree with everything they wanted.) I really enjoyed this manga simply because there are so few like it, these days romance manga's have become so boring and samey, manga about gifted people are also boring and samey but this manga is all about people and it doesn't shy away from the serious issues in society, it creates really interesting characters that engage the reader to feel and care about them.

It was a really enjoyable read, though I agree with the other comments mentioning the somewhat rushed ending. The plot was great and all together the characters were likeable and entertaining. If you're looking for a manga that fits the genres then this is a must read.

The only problem I had was the lack of main character romance. I wish that the relationship between Oda and Momoe had developed quicker. Though I loved Momoe's constant and unwavering love.

It was a free flowing read. It did get rather rushed towards the end but I enjoyed the description of dishes and the authors honest desire to sweep the reader into a world of good food.

The story is pretty good. It's 10 volumes (bunko) so you won't get bored--- and it really never got to a point where I'd say it's boring. The ending did feel a bit rushed, I wasn't that satisfied with how things ended... but overall, it's a pretty good read.

It's definitely worth a read, it's funny and different plot. Main characters are likeable though I found the ending a bit rushed? There's not much passion between Oda and Momoe... Even though it's a long series, I never once got so bored that I skipped ahead or thinking about giving up.

I posted before that this series starts to drag after a while (the whole thing with Momoe and Miki being depressed) but that passed and the series is good again. It's picked up the pace and things are moving forward. So if you get to that point where you feel like you want to put it down, don't! Because it will get better.

EDIT: I've just finished reading it and I felt like the ending was a bit rushed... I like happy endings and I wanted a few more pages of it.

Momoe may seem ditsy and weak, but she has a resiliency and strength of character that doesn't seem apparent at first. She matches so closely to the kind of person I want to be--kind, happy, bright... She has skills that slowly grow, and she makes decisions that don't seem exactly that smart at first. I guess what I'm trying to say that she seems so human, so real, that it is almost incredible. The most recent chapter (Ch. 25) just blew me away with how insightful and beautiful it was. Her thoughts and feelings felt like they were mine (and I was her)... They were the kind of things that I've thought, from time to time. The last two pages were amazing.

As a manga about an aspiring cook, Momoe's growth as a cook is seldom focused on, just casually revealed in certain parts, especially in recent chapters. To be honest I don't really mind that Momoe's career as a cook isn't the point, because the story is so rich with other things--the insights and thoughts of all the characters as they go through their lives, for example... And there is enough of Momoe's growth, both emotionally and as a cook, to satisfy you.
As for the slow romance between Oda and Momoe... I've always had a lot of issues with stories where in the first chapter, right off the bat, the couple discovers that they're in love and become super-lovey-dovey. Sometimes it almost disgusts me, because real life, in no way, is like that. I'm in college and I've never had a boyfriend or actually dated someone... though I am probably the exception (unfortunately ). So I've always preferred the slow but fulfilling development of a relationship over one that happens quickly. And I feel like even though romantic development happens very slowly in some parts, there's always something that happens that you can see building up towards their eventual relationship.

Also I am so, so happy that Wingtip Cafe has been scanlated Oishii Kankei like crazy recently. D

Well, this manga certainly is very different. For a few years, I have been primarily reading shoujo manga. I am in my teens; however, shoujo mangas do get very tiring.
In Oishii Kankei, there are comic reliefs, mouth-watering descriptions of fabulous French dishes, real-life drama, a girl's perseverance in her chosen career path, and a very convincing romance.

Don't let the 'horrible' art get you down from reading this, though! I believe this was a very popular style during the 90s and yes, the art does resemble that of itazura na kiss and hana yori dango. You'll get used to it, and yes; the art DOES improve!

To be frank, I don't really like the guy in this story. Sometimes arrogant and brooding guys aren't just worth it, and they waste quite a lot of your time and...er...emotions and tears. Haha!

Well, give OISHII KANKEI a try! I find it very interesting and a joy to read
