Description
From Viz: The business of Death is never done. Asato Tsuzuki works as a Shinigami, or "Guardian of Death," in the Ministry of Hades. It's his duty to make sure that the souls of the dead reach the afterlife, but contrary ghosts and humanity's evils keep getting in the way of a job well done. I have mixed feelings about this manga because of the different genres it tries to incorporate. First of all, it's supposed to be a fantasy series. The premise of the Ministry of Hades is pretty cool but I feel like it's not exploited to the fullest because most of the time, the mysteries that Tsuzuki et al have to solve could happen is just about any detective manga. It's just not very original in this sense.
Then, sometimes, it veers off into comedy. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but in other parts of the manga it's very dark so it feels like a bad fit. The shounen-ai elements are buried veeeeery deeply, if they're even there at all, but you can tell Matsushima-sensei likes to tease. If you like BL, there are better places to find it.
Overall, this manga just feels like too much of a jumble to hold my interest.
I love this manga as much as I love the anime! Tsuzuki is so adorable and I love everyting about him. The artwork is awesome, hot guys and very well-drawn.
Why can't the mangaka countinue drawing? This is one of the best mangas ever, in my opinion.
I love this serie its very pretty There was some news that the mangka is now going to start back in drawing the manga, the style might be a tad different, but I would LOVE to see whats going to happen!
My opinion is that Yami no is such a great story : ] I do like it a lot. i've read it like 5 years ago in my language version. Well, I think the manga is way better than the anime. (the anime is not bad, but i dont know if it's because it's old, the graphic and effect in the anime don't impress me) I love the fact that this is a normal manga that just tends toward being a shonen-ai with no explicit scenes. (so I can use my own imagination to pair Suzuki with anyone i like, which of course Not Hisoka lol). Suzuki is soooooooo cute <3
I don't think the mangaka put unnessary things in it tho. I wanna know why the Baron who wear the mask shows signs of personal care for Suzuki, I'd want to see more of Hisoka's fighting ability development, and of course, i do want to know more abt Suzuki's tragic past.
The art is ok at first but started to be gorgeous in later volume.
I'm sad that even tho it've passed five years since i stopped reading it (cos there's no more volume) but it's still on Hiatus TT__TT I've heard rumor too, like Shagami, that the mangaka is making a come-back. But that's was like last year, so why does its status in this site still on "Hiatus"? (sob)
This series has been inactive for YEARS. Why is that? Apparently, my friend told me that the mangaka suffered a hand injury that made it very difficult for her to continue drawing. And so, it's pretty much a permanent fact that this manga won't be finished.
This manga is sooo amazing. The art became gorgeous by volume 04, and the storyline is very interesting. The characters are all mysterious, but sometimes as easy to read as a book. I can read it over and over again and still not be bored. I wish Matsushita-sensei would continue it...I'm aching to know what happens next. The anime was great, too.
Yoko Matsushita, the mangaka, suffered a hand injury; so the manga was on hiatus until it resumed serialization in September 2011. The artwork is still amazing. I am looking forward to the new story arcs because there is much that has not been resolved i.e. Tsuzuki's complete background; Hisoka's background and his search for his own familiar and/or shinigami; and in general, the Jade Emperor's disappearance and how it effects the shinigami. I hope Matsushita will create more volumes in the future because there is so much potential.
Pretty good in terms of plot and characterisation although it had a tendency to get overly dramatic at times. Plus, the characters tended to be rather static at times, in order to create a sense of tragedy(inaction/inability to act thus allowing the villain to have his way). Though, this too was often balanced by a sense of humor and light-heartedness, yet there wasn't always enough for my taste.
