10 to the alternative 2013 version of the story i have instead?
by sacchan

So i actually own the japanese manga for this. and I don't know if I have a different version or if the serialized version is different from the actual manga that was published, but the manga itself is completely different then this scanlated one. I'm assuming Kojima Rarako sensei has probably decided to recreate the series again, as my manga was published in 2013, not 2011.

The 2013 version has different alterations towards the background and the characters, i would say it is a more thought out version. The characters have the same names and have slightly different personalities, but different background and different interactions and feelings towards each other.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The background is a bit different as they are college students and Yuzuru is too weak and works at a library. Yuzuru also has no memory whatsoever of his past and isn't remarried but adopted into the family. Events that happened in the 2011 scanlated version don't happen either. He doesn't get chained up by Takumi. and Takumi is definitely more loving and cherishes Yuzuru and less creepy (and much much less forward). He is pretty much protecting Yuzuru rather then seeking out to ruin him (or is he..?). Hinata also has a completely different look and personality. The manga also goes more in depth to Hinata's past and his love for Takumi as well. The characters have different interactions and different events happen too. The 2013 version isn't complete yet (which is why i even stumbled onto this 2011 scanlated version, was hoping to finish it) and the actual story about the past is not revealed at all yet. Ayato's name is only mentioned once with no explanation, although Takumi does imply that his most 'taiestu na hito' is killed. Kojima sensei is probably still planning to go with the same underlying storyline, as Yuzuru 'attacks' a hobo at the end of the volume.

The story telling and pacing is a lot slower, style is a lot more slice of life-y, and a lot more like her other recent works. The characters and their relationships goes into more depth and have a lot more interaction with each other. The over-all feel is a lot more pure, mysterious, slice of life feel, and definitely not as creepy. Although the 2013 version has not been completed yet, the manga definitely feels more like her usual works. It is much more characters/relationships/emotional based rather then story based. Overall I think she's revamped the whole manga to a much better level, and much more like her usual beloved style . Anyone that loves her usual works and story telling style and can read raws (or if a group ever scanlates it), should definitely read the 2013 published one. It will definitely change your whole perspective on the this series. This is actually currently one of my favorites by her, as it has the precious 'kojima lalako feel' to it, but has an extra dimension that you usually don't find in her works which adds an extra mysterious feel that kinda draws you in.

EXPLANATION :D

I found this real good explanation of the story on the web, not mine but I will post it because I think it could help others understand the story better.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Yuzuru's mother got pregnant in October when the Gods leave and Yokais (demons) attack. So, Yuzuru is half yokai, half human. When the mother married the father, they had a twin, Ayato and Takumi. However, to prevent Yuzuru from becoming a yokai, the father bargained with the Gods to replace Yuzuru and became a yokai himself. He lived in the shrine with the twin (he won't hurt them as they are his own sons) while the mother lived a normal life with Yuzuru. However, Ayato went to school and meet Yuzuru and fell in love. The father on the other hand attacked and ate all those who hurt Yuzuru as a way of protecting him. When Yuzuru realized that all those who died were the ones he had a bit of confict with, he decided to go to the shrine to talk to the Gods. Since Yuzuru is already a human and he is not related by blood to the father, he attacked him. ButAyato saved him and sacrificed his life. Upin realizing that it was his own son that he ate, the father then burned himself to death. Yuzuru had an amnesia because of the trauma this event brought him and forgot all of what happened. His mother re-married Ryosuke's father and lived normally in a different town. However, Ayato's twin Takumi followed them and watched while Yuzuru grew up. At first, his intention was to take revenge. But he slowly fell in love with Yuzuru and decided to make him fall for him too. He locked Yuzuru up to ensure that he will not end up eating humans when time comes that he will turn into a yokai. Yuzuru will still become a yokai upon adulthood because the replacement, the father, died. Not realizing this and only remembering the past, Yuzuru decided to set himself on fire to atone the sin (he felt guilty of the death of the father and Ayato and for making Takumi lonely). When he wouldn't burn to death, he realized that he is the yokai. He wanted to live alone in the shrine and starve to death but Takumi wouldn't let him. Since they love each other, they decided to kill themselves at the train station by jumping in the railway while a train is approachibg. The graves were probably made by Ryosuke and Takumi's friend. When the kid saw them at the shrine, its already their spirits.

when I read the first, let's say, 5 pages, I thought that this manga was about a heart-warming, cute story of 2 childhood friends that met after many years. Then I thought that it was going to be a love triangle when the uke's younger brother showed up. And then the seme's friend came up in the story and things got a little bit more complicated. And as I was wondering where lalako-sensei was going with the story, even more twists came up. I don't want to spoil the story (more than I already have), so I'll just say (to sum it up) that it's difficult to follow the story with your first read, the story is nowhere near sweet and innocent and extremely cruel things are implied on some scenes, on the second half of the story. please mind what I say, if you don't want to read a manga that lives a bad taste in you mouths in the end.

Their genetic condition is somewhat similar to the werewolf......in the manga it seems that annually? Or monthly?(just refer to the manga hahahasmile the people say not to go to the temple on a certain time of the month or year) they will be forced to transform to turn in to an oni/demon state that makes them crave for flesh including humans(its not precisely human flesh since their father ate a dog)......

and that yuzuru has inherited this and as a child he remembers rituals being performed on him to try cure the inevitable.........cause upon reaching adulthood he will crave for flesh........so after regaining his memories he immediately try to kill himself.........

but on why they transform? It was not explained....even the details i wrote above are vaguely portrayed.........but in the end they became spirits....so they are dead indeed

not so much of a tragedy since they are together but not much of a happy ending since they are dead
Even the feelings you'll feel after reading will be vague ahaha smile

This manga made absolutely no sense. I really tried to reach for a deeper symbolic meaning or something--maybe the black and white clothing of the two at the end represents yin and yang? Like eternal balance where one can only exist with the other? But in order to make this guess, THE REST OF THE STORY WOULD HAVE TO MAKE SOME KIND OF SENSE. Like, WAS this manga supernatural? I have no idea. So now I'm frustrated. If anyone has any ideas as to what the heck this manga is about, please let me know...

so i guess thats why sensei made an alternative version if what sacchan below me said is true. i do like the characters, the general storyline and the art, however the events can be quite confusing as they tumbled down one after another and you will get disoriented. the ending is kinda bittersweet, they are together, but not in this world.

Cannibalism?

Well... Let just say everything after chaining Yuzuru up went downhill into confuse ville. So... Ayato and Takumi AND Yuzuru are brothers? Like half bros or real bros? And why was the dad cray cray? Why did he eat Ayato? Why couldn't they had just run? If Ayato knew his dad was a man eating freak, why would he go there in the first place? What the heck happened to the mother? Did she even get remarry? Why didn't they take the crazy dad to the mental hospital? Why did he even become crazy? This story was all over the place and then no where. How did Yuzuru even end up in the hospital? Was he burned? Why he sure healed fast then... And why did Takumi and Yuzuru had to die in the end? Why? Why? Why? Argh, I'm bothered. Even though I like stories with twists and unexpected endings, this certainly wasn't my cup of tea...

This is damn confusing. There were gaps. The story and illustration were insufficient in executing this manga. Or, maybe an insufficient in translation? Well, I do not know. There are a lot of questions. I see that it is not only me who found this manga so confusing.

I don't really get the story. Why Ayato had to sacrifice himself? And why their Dad became mad like that? Why is everyone seemed to be attracted to Yuzuru? Where is Takumi when Ayato and Yuzuru visited their Dad? Where is their mom? Did she get eaten to by her husband?
Hell, their Dad was a man-eater? This story is kind of freak and confusing!
