MasterPiece Not just a Comedy
by LOW RETARDED Below

The review below is idiotic and dosent even seem to actually "review" the series just goes on about how the series is old. You do not need a sympathetic character or logic to write well written and coherent humorous situations. This is a series that will have a disconnect with ignorant westerner weeabos whom cant comprehend why something in japan became a phenomenon. Theres a reason this series kept going till 200 volumes pulling high sales figures and new younger fans with each decade because its one of best executed manga out there and ever made. So good infact the creator ended on his own accord. Some of the best humor with characters that actually feel real. Its not repetitive either its quite impressive how the creator managed to create new situations for 40 years and never got old, NOT TO MENTION the series is more than just comedy it again has characters with relatable stories and is overall a satirical critique on the Japanese economy similar in vein to something like southpark for American society. Only a Japanese or someone with an open mind can truly appreciate this masterpiece for what it is."Relic of its time" No this is a masterpiece that transcends its origins and will live on as one of the greatest to ever do it.

Nothing exceptional

Well, I can see how it might've been really cool and funny once upon a time, but it's... old. 1976 says a lot, and 200 volumes shows that it was popular back then, which wasn't nearly as hard as it is today with the ridiculous competition and picky readers... 200 volumes also shows you that it's dragged out for far too long, kind of like one piece. I've tried reading the available chapters, it's certainly outdated humor, I cracked a smile once or twice in a dozen or so long chapters, but never once did I laugh. The art is actually pretty good if you consider when it was made and what you had to use back then, but for people nowadays it will come across as crude and quite an eyesore, it wasn't for that reason that I think this one sucks though.

This could perhaps be called a great old relic, it was probably one of the greatest mangas out there at the time, but now it can barely even be called subpar when unfairly compared to more modern works. I bet some special people would be able to find this extremely amusing, perhaps if they can properly relate to the author or are older themselves and thus being able to appreciate stuff like this. However, it will likely NOT appeal at all to people who've drowned themselves in novels, anime and manga of modern standard and quality(the fact that it's not properly translated except for a few chapters after this long shows that by itself). The humor is "tame" even though the mc is a psychopathic maniac with no concern for other people or animals, the jokes are badly executed and rough, going for cheap "humor" like a cat eating your food and you go after it with guns blazing right into a crowded street or shooting some random car for no good reason making it crash and then just ignoring it, it gives you a feeling that "this is not real/plausible or immersive", I mean, he'd be sent for lifetime in jail after a single chapter, especially since he's a cop and shows EVERYONE openly(not even trying to hide his wrongdoings) just how much of a psychopathic mentally disabled freak he is... If you want people to laugh, they need to be able to relate somehow and get properly immersed into the story, even if a character has super powers and/or are really weird, you can still get immersed, but this is just a "normal" human with a normal LAW KEEPING job doing stuff that'd put terrorists to shame right in front of everyone, everything feels so fake and forced that you'd not be able to laugh at all, it feels like when you're watching idiots on youtube or somewhere else doing something that is clearly staged while they pretend it's just an accident or coincidence. It's almost painful to read.

After just a few chapters you will start to feel "aah, I know what will happen, nothing new here, just repetition in different scenarios, it's really not worth reading anymore". I guess you'd know that just from the summary though. I can, with confidence, say that if this was published today, not to mention a 373 episode long anime with a lot of extra stuff, a live action show, a movie, a game and 200 entire volumes of repetitions, it would've probably gotten axed before it even got published because of its inferiority. Even if it was published, it'd be a miracle if it reached more than 5 volumes before getting axed and any adaptations would be just a dream.

This is more of a nostalgic piece for old timers than something you'd want to read today, your time is better spent elsewhere. However, since just 17 chapters + a few extra ones are translated, it might just be worth it to spend a hour or two reading it. Anything more would just feel like repetitions, but it could be interesting to check out how a greatly successful manga from 1976 was written, even if it doesn't hold up to todays standards at all. I'll give it 3/10 stars due to the good(for its time) art and how it was somewhat interesting to read something like this, even if it didn't amuse me more than a little. If I had to judge it for just the plain enjoyment I'd get out of reading this thing without considering the historical experience, it'd easily be a 1/10 or maybe 2/10.
