The story itself is great, everything is set abruptly in a gory fashion and the development is more or less unexpected up until the last chapters. But the ending was lazy, given it's hinted and there is way too much missing information compared to the the madness and detail of how to create special effects with body parts. (though it was quite ingenious/disturbing how they converted techniques or traditional animation and old fashioned photoshop to corpses...)

if the special effects were the only thing hinting the end by using the harem end members from the start.
but they're just a weird fetiche of the author.... Last updated on January 1st, 2023, 10:06am

This is pretty masterful. It weaves two groups doing separate terrible things together and it really fully fleshes out the concept it puts forth. Gotta love that signature Kago overexplaining burtal acts thing

...expecting anything other than a complete and utter deconstruction of the harem genre, then I suggest you walk away right now. Harem End is a brutal, unique, no-holds-barred black comedy which shows you that if a bunch of hot girls suddenly show interest in an all-round mediocre character like the standard shounen lead, then romance is probably the last thing on any of their minds. Hilarious.
The other stories are similarly gory-outrageous-funny, unusual, and completely cliché-free. If you don't have any tolerance for gore you probably won't enjoy this book, but I disagree with the general consensus that you have to be an ero-guro fan to enjoy Kago Shintaro's works. If the tried-and-true horror tropes are boring you, I very much recommend giving this -- as well as his other non-H manga -- a go.

The whole thing is awful, except for a few frames with some very angry Japanese faces. That, and one bundled extra story about a detective who, after being captures, laments the loss of the seven great detective tools she keeps in her vagina. That phrase and the sex-ed diagram of a cross-section of a vagina will never leave me for the rest of my life. It inspires me to create my own seven great detective tools. The main manga is best sped through without reading.

the ending is just awesome. i think any gore fans will love this madcap manga about killer girls and killer animators. the detailed explanation on how to dispose off body and how to make stop motion using dead bodies is the best part, i can see the love and care sensei put on them.
great manga!

This little two-parter consists of two extremely cynical and (needless to say if you know the author) bizarre short stories. The first revolves around a brief, grotesque (though astoundingly tame by the standards of the author) subversion of the harem anime/manga genre. The second part is a little more vague in its exact intention, but aims a satirical lens at the career arc of idol/seiyuu Hirano Aya (through a similarly-named facsimile, of course), Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika, and a few other anime series. While the first half seems more of an outright critique, it's a little hard to pin down the point, if any, of the second, other than putting a comedy/horror spin on some wholesome anime-culture icons. It's not all as overtly weird and fractally structed as most Shintaro Kago manga, but has a sharper satirical edge. It's reasonably good parody though, as long as one has a sense of humor about the targets thereof (and about gore and general horror).
